Okay, today's share is sponsored by
Rabbi Michael and Jerry Laxm of the Roo
of the Granddaughter Aviarat Shaina
Aarona.
Is she doing any better?
>> It's working.
>> Yes.
>> Okay.
Take full credit. So,
and next week there's no sheer shasam
>> and they decided not to open.
Excuse
me.
>> Well, you come for the breakfast
primarily, so I don't know why uh
>> I I I figured you wouldn't even be here.
So,
>> I don't think so. At night, it's also
right around the time the fastest is
ending. No,
>> we'll see. We'll see. We'll we'll
>> negot
Okay, we can negotiate.
>> I don't know
next week.
>> Tidbits.
>> Yeah. Anything in the Torah of tidbits?
You you shouldn't like ask a live
person.
So today is 12:41. So it's probably
going to be within 5 minutes from there.
Okay.
At some point I'll translate or explain
something, but meanwhile it's pretty
good. for
So I wonder within these couple of
verses
how much
untruth,
misrepresentation
outright lies,
exaggeration,
conspiracy theories, I think we can keep
on going, are contained within these
couple of uh of verses over here, which
means again this this is basically a
how-to
instruction manual for anti-semites.
Although obviously the term anti-semite,
I mean those of us who know
anti-semmites is a relatively new term,
you know what year? I don't know. It's
interesting. Look it up. It's a
relatively new term. I believe it's a
19th century term term, which means no
one ever referred to this again.
It's interesting when a particular type
of hatred needs its own uh its own
description, its own definition.
And part of what what we could be
thinking about is you know on the one
hand what happened on the other hand
what's missing what assumptions are
being made what assumptions are being uh
or or what facts are being ignored which
means that there's a whole bunch of
things which are all unfolding over here
at once. I mean first of all we have and
I'll point this out. This is what I'm
saying now is is in not unique in any
way is Kazal note that historically
Moav and Midian did not get along with
one another but the Jews have this
remarkable ability of uniting the world
and we bring people together and they're
I mean just think about it today the the
extreme left and the extreme right who
could bring them together I mean what
what what you know what elements of
basic humanity do they share that
they're able to come together which
means I mean the reality Somebody really
should nominate the Jewish people for
the Nobel Peace Prize
because of their ability of of of
uniting the world and bringing, you
know, together. So, I mean, it really is
remarkable. And if that's not enough,
then they go and they find this other
person to go and reach out. And
essentially, what we have over here is
what I'm going to call for the moment a
generational Confederacy, which is an
unlikely Confederacy. It's people who
historically and again this is something
which a the sources I mean the mafur
should point out but b it's pointed out
based upon other sections in the Torah
where we see wars taking place between
these people. So we'll we'll note this
again is that these are people that
could not get along but they finally
find this sense of unity and they find
this reason to be able to be joined and
to be merged and to uh and put their
fates together as it were. And it really
again historically really is quite
remarkable. The other thing which is
interesting is almost immediately they
they want to do a couple things is one
of the essentially they see the Jews as
being this large
destructive force.
And again thinking about numbers
relative we don't know we have no idea
what the numbers are compared to the
Canonites compared to other nations
around over here. But it's it's also
something which is out of this uh
anti-semitic
uh what is it?
Well, no. Yeah, I was going to say, you
know, their uh their instruction manual.
One of the things is that you always see
the Jews as being far more numerous than
than they are. I mean, if you were to uh
if you were to say, oh, there's 200
million
people in the United States, 200, 300
million. And how many Jews do you think
there are? So I don't think the average
anti-semite is capable of getting to the
the proper number. And for that matter,
if you say how many billions of people
worldwide and how many Jews are there, I
don't think they're capable because
again, for small amounts of people to
control, you know, everything to control
the banks and control Hollywood and to I
mean I mean that's why a lot of us are
tired because we're putting in overtime
and and and it's a lot of work. It's a
lot of work and we control the birds and
we control the I mean there's there's
all kinds of things that we control
which also gets to another point is they
see us as being far larger than the
numbers really are and they see us as
being incredibly a destructive force.
Look at this destructive force and
they're going to destroy everything in
its midst. So I'm saying these elements
of uh
again I don't want to depress any of you
but I mean unless you're like me and you
don't read any newspapers so then
I I don't read any newspapers.
I know
he reads them so I don't have to.
>> So Naomi doesn't she's she's she's too
rah from all kinds of other mitzvot. But
this is uh this she's apparently she
gets paid for it. And uh so if there's
something interesting she tells me I I I
I know you find this hard to believe but
I I I I don't read any newspapers. and
I'll watch the news and I'll listen to
the news. I don't uh
Nope.
Yeah. Then you say, "So, what was I
doing by the JNS conference the last
couple of days?" Which is pretty funny
because I don't know any of these people
are, but I want to support the
significant other who was speaking. So,
the again,
a lot of this is so current. That's
that's really what what's interesting.
And the the other thing which is
interesting is that they immediately
move towards
a nonconventional
conflict.
Let's attack them but it's not a
conventional ways which again you can
try to understand why that is. Do they
think they can't necessarily go to war
against them? We need to do something
else. So that that also is uh is I I
think really quite interesting. The the
other thing which is missing from this
whole discussion over here and again you
can read again and giml
read all of this okay they're afraid the
Jews are over here and they're going to
destroy everything and then we're going
to you're going to curse them we'll
expel them from the land there is
lacking a basic historical knowledge and
by the way I don't I don't necessarily
expect them to have that knowledge
although although maybe they should and
I'll explain that in a second The
essential historical knowledge which is
lacking is that they don't seem to know
about the Brit Bayim. They don't seem to
know that God has promised the land of
Israel or the land of Kanan to these
people. These people have no interest in
taking over your land Moav. They have no
people. They have no interest in taking
over your land Midan. There is simply
that is not the objective. I mean again
have you guys read Herzel? I mean I I I
mean
Ma No way.
Have you
people who complain I should be louder
need to put the hearing on louder.
>> So have you read Herzel? Have you uh
again other than that unfortunate part
about Uganda ha
do you realize where we're supposed to
be going? So I'm going to say this
again. Thi this whole section over here
when I said before how many elements
over here are just really not based upon
truth. Again this unbelievable force
which is going to destroy everything in
it in in its path and there are so many
of them and I and I keep on going. But
but this whole narrative
is essentially not true.
That doesn't stop them from wanting to
destroy. That doesn't stop them from uh
from setting out on their mission. And
it also doesn't stop them ultimately
from their own self-destruction in terms
of where a lot of this is going to end
up. But just think for a moment if they
would have known the Brit banarian then
they would have known oh these are the
children of Abraham and as the children
of Abraham so they're they went down to
Egypt there was this covenant by the way
that's a really important word for today
there is a covenant which was made
between God and the Jewish people. Part
of our side of the covenant was
unfortunately to be strangers in a land
which isn't ours and to be enslaved. And
we fulfilled that part of it. And the
other side of that same coin was the
reward. And that reward is to come back
into the land. And that's we're on the
way. Which means this whole narrative
that we are here to destroy this land
and then maybe we can curse them and
defeat them and expel them from the
land. Expel them from a land that they
have no interest in being in. But again,
historically, people love expelling us
from lands. It seems to be this uh in
thing to do. Again, I I guess I have to
go find the maybe the protocols, elders
of Zion, and to find out exactly, you
know, what is going on over here. But
none, nonetheless,
you know, we've been expelled from so
many lands. And there's there's a deep
underlying issue here. And if you don't
understand that the Jewish people have a
land, what you're really saying is that
the Jewish people are not a nation.
Forget about a nation like every other
nation or a nation unlike every other
nation, which really is an undercurrent
of what also is said in this week's
para. But in order to be a nation,
nations have certain elements to them.
And one of those elements is having a
national homeland. And they don't
recognize that we have a homeland. So
notice that we are a nomadic people who
just destroy everything in our way. And
that's the way historically that they
see us. And therefore, they need to go
out and to preempt that. And it's not a
conventional war because it's a
different kind of a people. And there
are other things that they either seem
to know or to think or to suspect. Now,
as I've pointed out many, many times,
Rick claims he's been listening to me 25
years. Then he means he's probably heard
this 25 times. And the the other thing
which is incredibly important is that,
you know, should they have known this?
Of course, they should have known this
because Midian is from the family of
Arainu and Moab is from the family of
Lot. And if anybody should have had a
little bit of inside information over
here as far as what God has promised to
Abraham and what you know, yeah, I mean,
if anything, if anything, they could
have said as family members. Remember,
there's a point in Lo's life that he may
very well see himself as being the
natural heir of the childless Abraham.
So, anything promised to Abraham, he's
got a good chance of taking it. And if
you've noticed a little bit of of Rashi
where the shepherds of load and the
shepherds of Aram get into fights and
part of it is because the shepherds of
load say, "Well, you know, we're going
to inherit all this one day. This is
ours. We don't have to care if we let
our our sheep go and graze wherever it
is that they graze. This is ours in the
future." Of course, they made a mistake.
And that mistake is not knowing that
Aram's going to have his own children.
Moab is Moab. So Midian as one of Aram's
own children can say, "Well, you know
what? We're contesting the will. Of
course, you contest the will. Why?
Because they were not included in the
will. They were sent away. They were for
the benra who were sent away. But still,
if anybody knows about promises made to
Abraham and rights made to Abraham and
their inheritance of Abraham, they
should have a really good idea of this.
So now you realize that they have this
knowledge of these people and there are
these, you know, these uh dangerous
people who need to be dealt with in a
particular way. So you have this
wonderful distorted understanding of who
the people are with only a selective
really a selective acknowledgment of uh
of the identity. And part of this again
I want to stress is that these are I
mean again this is almost going to be
like it's almost going to be like
Christian theology saying that the Jews
are cursed and they they're a nation
that's going to wander throughout.
They're they've been pumped. They've
been punished and they're always going
to be a wandering people. And therefore,
this is this wandering people who will
leave destruction wherever they go. And
again, you and and therefore they can
never possibly come back to their land
because they've been expelled from the
land. But at least that acknowledges a
historical fact that we were once in the
land. Of then you have identity theft of
cosmic proportions. And then you claim
that you're the new Israel. So therefore
any bene any any inheritance spiritual
or otherwise goes over to the church and
Rome is the new Jerusalem and so on and
so forth. But at least there's
acknowledgement of some kind of
distorted understanding of history. Over
here it seems to be that there is like
this less of an understanding where
there could have been more of an
understanding and nonetheless I'm going
to point out again you have this plan
which ultimately wants to hire somebody
who's going to get to annihilation. And
if I would use the word right now of uh
of a final solution, so some of you may
think that I'm being unfair and a little
too strong. I don't I don't think so
because I think that's exactly what you
hire a bam for. And as the gar tells of
balam somebody who's willing to swallow
up an entire people and
it's also interesting you know we get to
you know he sends his message in and he
says
a nation left Egypt and they're you know
all they're sitting over here they're
they are adjacent
and go and curse this nation for me. I
hope this reminds you of something. I'll
tell you what it should remind you of.
It should remind you of the discussion
between Hammon and Akash
because there also he is negotiating the
destruction of entire people. And
there's one thing which is missing in
the destru in the description. Do you
remember what it is? Israel by name. He
doesn't name them. He never tells Akash
who they are. There are these people who
you know are dangerous. Okay, get rid of
them all. over here the message sent to
bum there's a nation came out of Egypt
which means you could say on the one
hand but of course he knows it is
because he you know he went to Sunday
school bum must know his biblical
stories on the other hand you could say
it's not mentioned it's deliberately
left out now why is it deliberately does
bum care which means what kind of an
individual of a sociopath is bum you
know pay him the check and he'll destroy
a nation genocide for uh of course we
get accused of the genocide and the
people who are actually paid and willing
to do this which by the way there are
people being paid today to do a lot of
uh the evil which is taking place. So so
and again with a ro and with Hmon
there's money which is changing hands.
So never under estrine made the ability
of financial incentive in order to uh
incentize to motivate certain types of
uh behavior.
Bum then okay there's a couple of
elements here the the elders when they
go in Zion it says
and they carry their magic with them so
that itself is interesting why are they
doing this and again the commentaries
deal with this there's this conversation
taking place without words we also know
we're trained in the occult we have
certain abilities we can do certain
things But this calls upon an expert,
you know, a fifthderee black belt
ishim and and bam is described as a
kosin later on in the Torah.
And then he says something which is
surprising,
but that's only if you forgot fibration.
So I just now framed what I'm going to
do for the next couple of minutes. But
the thing which is surprising is he says
that wait over here
as God speaks to me. Which means that he
believes that he will receive some kind
of a divine visitation and he will
receive some kind of a message from the
divine and that will then tell him what
it is that he has to do. And then lo and
behold in
God does appear to him and of course he
tells him don't go
don't go you can't curse them they are
blessed now the thing about whoever you
curse is cursed you bless is blessed is
also something which goes back to ber I
don't have to necessarily remind you
where it's from although although and I
ask you again do they necessarily have
over here a a sharp historical
understanding knowledge memory as far as
who was the one who told that when you
curse them you're cursed and you bless
them you're blessed and so on that's not
bum it's somebody else who has that
ability which means if I'm actually
going to do what I plan on doing for at
least part of the time today if I'm
going to read through the section
through a prism of things which took
place in beret and I've already I've
pointed out you know I've done this
already the last couple of minutes if
you didn't notice hold it what knowledge
should Moab have? What knowledge should
Midian have over here? If I think about
this, if Bam is going to curse the Jews,
he is going to be cursed. That's safer.
If he blesses the Jews, then he's going
to be blessed, which is actually a
pretty cynical way of analyzing of what
happens afterwards because he wants to
curse them. He's paid to curse them and
he blesses them. So, does that end up
working out better for him? So let's
let's hold on to that for a moment. And
then he tells them, I can't do this.
This out of my pay grade. I just can't
do this. I I have no ability to do this.
So the the the
involvement of God in the story is
definitely an element which is
interesting because now we don't know
what to do with Bum. Is Bum a monotheist
or he's not a monotheist? In one of my
lectures
over the years, I I called him a
tortured monotheist.
So he's tortured because he seems to
know it, but he doesn't like it very
much and he doesn't want to be limited
by it. But God says you can't go.
As we continue the story, they go back
and relay the message and and and and
new messengers come
and then in cuff just one second
we have again elima
and God appears to bum at night and he
says right
and and God also gives a really
interesting response over here which I'm
not going to delve into. It's it's
essentially
God already told him it's not going to
work. God already told him not to go and
he now is pressing the point. And
all that I'll say now is again I I don't
want to overly
go into this but
he was selective in what he says to God.
God is equally selective in what he says
back to him. And there's a really
interesting conversation and it goes
back to this point of truth and being
truthful. He's not being truthful when
he he's not being truthful when he
reports back to the people. I mean there
just a lot of undertoe over here.
He nonetheless goes and travels along
the way and then there is this really
interesting scene with the donkey that
opens up its mouth and his leg gets
crushed on the gadair. And you know, as
we're doing this, we're not exactly sure
why are we reading all of this. And then
in Z when he finally meets up with he
says to
why didn't you come? I mean, he did come
now, but essentially saying, why didn't
you come the first time? And then he
says,
you know, the way you're behaving, I
cannot give you the honor. I wanted to
give you honor. I can't give you honor.
So, so this idea of the cavode I also
want you to pay attention to.
That is the very end of source number
one, the last pok.
Then again in source number two which
goes towards the end of their
conversation
when I go back to my tortured
monotheist. Many altars have been have
been built. Many offerings have been
brought. Many mentions of idolatry have
been made.
And then he makes maybe the most famous
blessing in source number two. This is
again towards the very end
of Israel which is taken to understand
as
observing the morality of the Jewish
family.
Rashi makes that point. If you uh if you
need me to find the rash for you, we can
we can look for it. But it's it's
morality that he sees. What we don't
know by the way is if he likes the
morality. He makes this again he sees
something and he says something to to
what extent he has an ability of saying
what he wants.
Israel and their camps. I mean, one of
the things Rash is that you can't look
in from one uh from one into the other
unlike a lot of the apartment buildings
in many neighborhoods in Israel
when all those years ago when we first
moved here. So, real estate agent was
showing apartments. I was sitting and
learning. Naomi would go on various
things and uh and by seeing that she's
religious, oh, you have to go to Harnov.
That's where all the religious people
are. So she you know looked at one, two,
three different and uh every apartment
was built looking at some other
apartment. So she came back and she said
you know this is I said well most of the
people that don't have televisions. So
anyway,
so
let us continue in
and again there's this observation of
the morality of the Jewish people. Now
again that's going to be something which
is going to be really important. It
comes back again to this
and going back to those who are blessed
are blessed and cursed or cursed and so
on.
He gets upset and he says why are you
doing this to my enemies
again you have blessed them all these
times which again I could be a little
cynical go and say hold maybe he does
know something preparation
run away so keep that word in mind it's
also interesting
I said I was going to give you honor
again another he's not even a tortured
monotheist. He's uh he's quite cynical
and he says essentially this god that
you speak of has prevented you from
receiving honor.
So
just keep in mind all these various
words that we've been using along the
way because I think all of them are
important. So let's pause for a second.
To you want to come inside? You want to
sit outside?
You ready? That's it. I disturbed
everybody.
You have a good seeker. Okay.
So
what I said in the very beginning is
that what we were doing is something
till now I was noticing this confederacy
which is generational bringing together
the various people who can't get along
with one another bringing them together
but now I want to do something else is
and I want to instead of looking you
know across this way at the various
people I want to go backwards because as
I've been trying to hint the entire time
is that we really are dealing with
something which to a very great extent
is extremely boret
oriented and therefore let's go back to
beret.
We'll start with a larger
with with a larger observation and then
we'll get to the more specific one.
It should be of no surprise to us that
God speaks to the enemies of Israel at
night and gives them warnings.
I believe that uh this happens multiple
times in Beret including times that
we're not told.
Okay, I I I've discussed this before. I
even times we're not told which of
course is the most interesting thing
that I could say it's there which mean
and but but part of what we need to
contend with is that when God does speak
again if if we'll go backwards the
various episodes with with parro we
don't see it with aimel we do see it and
avi gets completely frightened by it he
gets completely spooked by this and god
as soon as you said you're dead and he
and he takes that seriously somebody
telling you you're going to die is is a
little can be a little frightening. So
he he has this nightmare. God God gives
nightmares. How's that? God gives
nightmares because he would say, "Oh,
nightmares is the product of somebody's
you know, God gives these people
nightmares." Um
subsequently the one well love we're
going to get to right now. loving has
his nightmare. And my very very strong
two varies I say my very strong
suspicion
is that that same night
that Yakov is up
contending with what Kazal call which is
actually based upon a it says in the
verse not in in but in that he does
contend with an angel. My strong
suspicion is that that night Asovv was
also having nightmares and uh Asov wakes
up in the morning also completely
changed and you don't gather a coalition
again 400 soldiers setting out for war
and then you wake up in the morning and
you act like like a little puppy and uh
and you go running and you know wanting
to make peace. So I I think ASF got
spooked.
Interesting. I think God gives people
nightmares. And but by the way, some
people will wake up in the morning after
having a nightmare and get completely
spooked and saying, "Oh my god," or
whatever they say. And some people may
say, "Okay, that was just a dream. Move
on."
Again, I don't know. I don't know how
much to torture you. Did Hitler ever
have nightmares?
>> Hitler, did he have did God ever give
him nightmares? Did he ever warn him? I
don't know. I don't know what to say but
I do want to continue with Lavan. I mean
first of all the language by Lavan is
going to be incredibly similar to the
language that takes place over here by
Bum. So just hold on to that for a
second and I am very very far from the
first one to notice this. But what I am
going to do is I'm going to show you a
cluster of them which I don't believe I
didn't see anybody putting all of them
together. I was actually so convinced of
this that I didn't send this out. If
anybody wants, I can send this to you.
That uh one of the tools that they have
on al alhatra is that they have a uh a
Torah lab where you're able to take
sections of the Torah and compare one to
another and it will give you colored
comparisons. As I said, I I already knew
what I was looking for and uh I I
actually printed it for myself, which is
completely worthless because my printer
is not in color. But I do I but I but I
do have the two sections over here. So
if anybody wants I can send it to you in
color. This is just a visual to see. Oh
wow. That's that's interesting because
there really is a cluster over here. If
we'll start in source number three
took everything. Okay. Here it is that
you know the Jew goes and takes. By the
way there is one thing here he did. So
okay right
it's called. So just notice the word
cavode is here is again we're just
looking for for you know the the I keep
telling you the fancy word we keep using
for this is uh
in interextuality but but but what we
keep finding again there's going to be a
cluster of words over here and
Yakov says
you know we have the the sheep and the
and and the stripes and the brown and
then this and the white
vet says
God God did this. God was micromanaging.
God is involved in this story. He then
continues and he says
so and again I'm going to point out that
just like I believe that Yakov had this
nocturnal scene where he is struggling
with this angel. I believe over here as
well Jacob has this dream. Love's also
going to have a dream as we'll see in a
moment. And all of this is given but
notice the word cavode. Notice the word.
Okay. The the dream taking place. We'll
continue a little bit long more along
the way and we'll go all the way down to
and she steals her father's. No, we
don't know exactly what are I also years
ago gave a whole lecture just on and
mentioned the various possibilities
about what this can be.
So, notice that other word. Uh, did did
I point out? I didn't I didn't point
this out. Did I?
>> I did or I didn't.
>> I did point it out
in in source number two.
Run away.
Run away. Which means this is what's
told by go run away. Over here you have
the word barak again and I'm saying all
of these in my mind are minor points
although you'd have to admit go look for
the word barak. I don't know if it's
mentioned any other time till this point
in Ber the word cavode I don't know how
many times that it's used and there is a
cluster over here but the the more
important things are going to be the
next two that come
in source one
that is the same that is the same term
being used. So therefore, meaning that's
the one that Kazal point out that that
that's the what do you want to call it?
That that that's the the easy one.
That's the lowhanging ex right that's
the low hanging fruit if you will. Okay.
Lowhanging exoggetical fruit. Okay.
The place that he gets to is a place
called Gilad. It's only going to be
called Gilad because of something else
that takes place. And now what does God
say?
God appears.
Be very careful
how you speak to him. Now, if I were to
analyze this verse by itself, and God
comes to somebody and says,
you know, this is the right place to use
the Arabic, right? Dear Balac, right?
This is the right place to use. You
don't know what that means, then forget
that. So, uh, be careful. It's not dear
Balac, by the way. It's not. it it's you
know be careful. God says be careful
be careful
that you you know in terms of how you're
going to speak to him.
So if you would have received s such a
message what would your response have
been you would have been real careful.
So he catches up to him
and he took the girls. The girls are
going to come back into the story also.
I would have made a party for you.
Anybody want to translate that?
I have in the power of my hands, you
know, the L is an interesting word to do
evil to you. Does he really? Didn't God
just now warn him?
God said, "I should be careful how I
speak to you." What's that? Do you
realize what he's doing over here?
God meaning God said to be careful. Is
he being careful right now? No.
He would not have made the he would not
have said I could do whatever I want.
Which means he is ignoring God.
Love had this. So I'm going to say it
again. When God appears to these various
people, do they still have free will?
What's the answer? Yes. Yes,
they still have free will. How do I see
this? I see this based upon love.
Because love is able to still
nonetheless do what he wants. By the
way, who is the other one who has a
dream where God tells him something and
he ignores him?
Haru maybe not but but that's bum God
says don't go you can't curse them and
then he has another you know like like
anyway
what do you mean anyway it's it's not
going to work no matter what's going to
happen it's not going to work
so hold on to that for a second
there's also something interesting here
about Rael just as a side point says
whoever took this won't live and so on
and Rael had taken them and Rael we're
told ends up dying because of this. So
it's interesting because the whole story
of Bum is somehow the power of his words
can do something and now over here you
see an inverse of this the power of
Yakov's words somehow have an ability of
doing something. So again I I'll just
note that as we go on we
let's pause for one moment before I read
on because we're going to have two
opposite approaches. One approach is
going to be what we're all familiar with
and we're familiar with it because it is
there in the middle of the pavan
makes his entrance into the hagada and
what do we say about him?
Lavan wanted to eradicate the Jewish
people. Rashi actually tells us that is
in source number 13 is the
ode.
Many possibilities what those words
mean.
Rashi reads it as
verse 14
wanted to kill them all. Which means
when I now think about Bum as somebody
who has his dream, right, and
nonetheless proceeds along the way to
try to curse them in order to eradicate
them all, I can now say, "Oh, that's
really interesting because look about
what love does." And I'm going to say it
again. This is the read of Lavan that
enters into not just Rashi. It enters
into the Hagada. And this is how we read
it. Is this the only way of reading it?
So if we read a little bit further in
back in source number three,
we find him saying
responds.
He quarrels with him.
We know what I do to you.
Since God has done all of this and so
on.
So
I think our temptation is to read that
as far as economics, right? You had
nothing when you got here and now all
the stuff that you have is all because
of me.
Right? That's the temptation. And I want
you to read it not economically. I want
you to read this in terms of nationhood.
Again, what is Yakov doing right now?
Yakov is headed towards the land of
Israel. Why is he headed towards this
place? He's headed towards place because
this is the promised land. This is the
It goes, by the way, it goes back to the
great B of this is the place which was
promised. And YaKob knows something.
What does Yakov know? That Yakov is a
nation. Nations have lands. nations,
which means the subtext of all of this
is
do I stay with love on and I I could
take this on lots of levels on on a
certain point I could say
let's let's just put it this way. Let's
say you were one of Yakov's adviserss
and YaKob uh you know is working in the
field and you go out with him in the
field, go out with the sheep and he
says, "Listen, I'm not really sure. I'm
at a crossroads in my life. You know, on
the one hand, you know, my parents,
if they're still alive, live off in this
far away place. I have a brother there
who wants to kill me and chase me down.
I'm over here and I essentially have a
father-in-law who's not uh that easy to
live with. But on the other hand, I've
I've been pretty successful. And the
reason is God has been protecting me
because God has done all this all those
kind of micromanaging and so on. And uh
what should my next next step be? Which
means he can stay over here. He's
successful financially. Or
he can get this crazy idea in his head
which for better or worse a lot of us
have. And what's this crazy idea?
That this is not home. But there's
another place. There's a promised land.
There's a place we're supposed to be.
and I need to go back to that place.
Which means when YaKob wakes up his kids
and says
I I I know that you have a grandfather
love him. It's the only life you've ever
known. He's the only grandfather you've
ever known. But you have another
grandfather.
His name is Yitzk. He's sadik. You've
never met anybody like him. He grew up
in the house with the greatest man who's
ever lived, a mino. It's time for you to
meet him because we're part of that
story. We're not part of this story,
right?
We we
are Jews. We are the children of
Abraham. We need to go to the land which
God promised us. And Love is saying,
"No, the girls are my girls. This is
this. Everything is mine." And
essentially, you're part of me. You
don't have an independent identity as a
nation. You're not an independent
nation. And Yakov's response is, "We are
an independent nation.
We're on our way. We're going back home
because we are a nation. And now you go
back to the beginning of the para. What
was missing from that whole narrative?
The point that was missing was
they were saying something was which
wasn't true. They're not interested in
taking that land or living over there.
We're on our way home. Don't you know
the story? Haven't you read the book?
Right? Haven't you heard about what this
is all about? So I'm going to point out
again it's not just these random words
that I've noted along the way which
point towards a thematic connection and
all those words are there and they are
important and they are part of the story
but when I you know I gave the title for
the class the axis of evil there's an
axis of evil which runs across going
from from Moab to Midyan right going off
to bum but there's also an axis which
seems to go backwards as well which
transcends history because they're
saying the same things. They're doing
the same things. They're making the same
claims. And this is one which continues.
We'll just go one step further over
here. At the end, they get to some kind
of a dant.
They make a covenant, which is really
quite interesting.
It's love who says this. Let's make a
covenant.
Yakov seems to be insisting we're a
separate nation. By the way, Yakov wins
at this point. You don't make a covenant
with your own family. You make a
covenant with somebody else. You make a
brit with somebody else. Your brother's
your brother. Your sister is your
sister.
So, let's
They make a covenant. They eat. And
it continues.
It it speaks about not crossing over.
There's a boundary. This is your side
and this is my side. Which means Yakov
wins. Even though Lav claims, no,
they're all mine. We're all one people.
At the end of the day, there is a gal
which is made. And Abraham,
so again, is this the same God or these
different gods? Which means, do share a
god or not? And I'm just going to leave
it at this. And I hope that you notice
the various connections, but there's
more than I think that we've noted till
now. In source number five,
in the very beginning of the para,
the target says,
who
he says, "Oh, that's the same guy." So
now, just in case you thought that all
of this was just my imagination,
if you look at source number six now in
Beret, Rabba, and this goes back in
Batra,
God comes in a dream at night. So now
again, you knew I wasn't going to be
leaving the the dream sequences yet.
So, it collects these things. Yeah.
That's how God speaks to them. And I'm
going to ask again, you know, are all
these three the same? They're not
because frightened and the other two are
negotiating, which means they they they
seem to take it a little differently.
Look at this. A and I'll I'll note
already
various commentaries based on this and
I'll just skip for a moment based on
source number nine which is a garraum
without a nation.
He swallowed a nation
who
means all of these people are the same.
Rashi says it's slightly different to
know who
by the way these three people are uh at
least according to one of the
commentaries I saw the only three people
who come from this particular place who
identified being from this place said
that okay I have to be careful now the
rationalists among us will say that this
is a thematic connection
mystics among us will say that you're
dealing with some kind of a
reincarnation I don't care how you
choose to understand this. It makes no
difference to me. I can assure you that
whatever you do or any place in the
middle, there have been those who have
expressed this understanding.
This fellow who you don't know
necessarily unless you've learned say
for chauffe
where
you're talking about a battle byan
and it says
The Jews are intermaring and worshiping
other gods.
So I'll say it again. There are three
people who are described as being from
Arama and that is Bum this fellow Kushan
and again the other one is Lavan. So
therefore it's seen as there being some
kind of a connection. The the mystical
sources also speak about this. I again
I'm not interested right now in
necessarily you know crossing every tea
or dotting every eye on this. I think
that we've seen enough to realize that
there is a at least what we can call a
theological proximity taking place over
here. And I and I'm not interested in
taking it further than that, but let's
re realize that for a moment. If I go
back to some of the sources that I
skipped, look at the in source number
seven. He's talking about the verse
in Bidbar. So you have to see it again.
It's paracuff bed plus a cuff dollid
which takes us back to our first source.
So that's where you know we have our
talking donkey right I don't know if his
name was Mr. Ed or something like that.
We have over here the Malathan appearing
and he have his leg crushed into the
wall. Correct.
And then and he's beating up his donkey.
He's not happy at all. And now let's
read the
that no this is all the same person or
this is all the same personality
againatic or other but
they made a covenant and the covenant
what was the what was the witness of the
covenant it was the ga and now he's
break and you stay there and we stay
here and now he's coming attack crosses
over to curse out the people. So what is
going to attack him? What's going to
attack him is the witness. What is the
witness? The gal is the galade. Galade
was the name of the place that the gal
is going to attack him because he broke
this. And then he continues and he
writes. Is that enough for us?
So it's so what just now happened is is
that it read in the love and story in in
a much more profound way and I I I
already noted you know that there were
all these other words which are here as
well which you shouldn't ignore because
they they are all pointing at the same
direction.
Source number eight goes in the same
direction but it adds one more word
which I want to get to and that is
this is the motion of his kingdom also.
So
I just want to take this to another
level beyond what may seem obvious to
us.
what happens at the end of the story
which means a after everything else bum
wants to curse he can't curse run away
you're not going to get the covet and so
on and so forth there there is a plan B
and what is the plan B the plan B is you
send down the girls and by the way Bum
gets blamed for that I mean later on the
Kish bum gets blamed for that apparently
was Bum's idea but when I say it's Bum's
idea whose idea really was it was love's
idea Benai we are one people we're going
to be together We're going to stay and
be together. We're one nation. We're not
separate nations. Which means there's
one way to attack us and that is that we
are so different and we're so
destructive and we're going to destroy
you. And the other one is in is okay.
We're really one people. Let's go there.
And which by the way is not always
innocent. There is another story like
this in the Kish. You know what it is,
right?
That was that was a question. There is
another story like this in the Kish and
that is in source number 15.
And then you have whatever does happen
there with Dina and
they not only say let's then intermar
and then he continues contin to explain
how we will then be able to take right
that that's what we're saying but when
he comes back to the people
he tells them how we will then be able
to be in position to take swallow them
up and take all of their possessions
which means there are two ways of doing
this one way of doing this is by noting
how destructive the Jews are again you
make all kinds of rumors and innuendos
and insinuations about who they are and
the other one is let's swallow them up
and then let's take away all of their
resources and but again what's
interesting is that the Dena story is
takes place in terms of and then we will
marry and you can't help but note at the
end of the story and I'm going to say
things which are obvious and should be
known and should be clear I I wrote
about this in my very first book so this
takes us back at least to uh when I said
it the first time probably at least 1996
maybe before and that is what happens
afterwards and then Shimon and Ley come
and that they're to save their sister
and they wipe out the city. What's
interesting about our story is that
Yakov then says to separate Shimon and
Le because of their anger. He does not
like this. And what happens then in our
story is that it is an Zimi of Shimon
who now finds himself on one side and
then it's Pinas from Ley Cohen on the
other side but it's the same characters
involved. So I'm going to say it again.
the the the bat perspective on what's
taking place over here is interesting.
And what happens immediately afterwards
is in source number 16, God says to
Yakov, "Now come back." And finally, you
know, he's on the he's back in Israel.
And you know, you have to keep your vow
again. Keep the words, the power of the
words. Keep your vow and build this
thing that you said you're going to
build.
again. When you ran away, when you ran
away,
get rid of all of your idolatry. So, I'm
going to go back again and note that in
our uh episode over here of the end of
the portion when the girls come down,
right?
What happens is immediately they start
to worship Balpur as well and therefore
this combination of
idolatry together with sexual sins is
the recipe. So I want to pause there for
a moment. I mean first of all we go back
to the m of so again is love now sorry
love is bum now thinking about that
blessing that he gave and say now how do
we unbless h how do I reverse this?
Let's do some reverse engineering over
here. Um, if I go back to that verse,
where did we have that?
>> Right.
>> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I know. I see. I see.
>> I know. I'm just looking for one more.
Sorry, I was looking for one more turn
of phrase there.
Sorry. In source number four,
right?
Which means the Jews don't play with the
occult. The Jews don't do these things.
The Jews are not involved in idolatry.
the Jews are not doing these things. So,
it's really interesting now that the
recipe in order of defeating them is
let's send the girls and let's now in a
sense become one and let's find their
kryptonite. That's really what it is.
And the kryptonite has two different
elements of it. One are going to be this
intermarriage which goes back to a
certain element of what loving was
saying and the other is idolatry which
by the way the truffin were there in the
story as well and and Rael takes them
and over here also after defeating they
have all of this idolatry and they have
to get rid of all of this because if
we're going to go back to Israel if
we're going to go back and be us we
can't be them. If we're going to worship
God we can't have any of these things
with us. So I'm going to say it again.
These two negative points are all here.
But this all ultimately there's one
thing that's really taking place and
that is there seems to be some kind of a
knowledge or acknowledgment that the
again it goes back to the point which is
beneath the surface. Love makes a brit
with Yako.
Yako has a brit with God.
There seems to be this understanding by
Bum that if the Jews do certain things,
they then will have forfeited the Brit
with God. The Brit then ends, which
means God keeps taking care of them. God
keeps on being behind the scenes. God
keeps giving people nightmares and God
keeps on protecting us.
So now, what do we need to do to break
that alliance? What do we need to do to
take away that power? So sexual outrage
is one wonderful way and by the way now
you go to the background of the Dina
story
will our sister become no there needs to
be purity we need to fight for this this
can't possibly be
and the other thing is idolatry and it
would sound as if again we're guessing
now it would sound as if what the theory
is that if the Jews break the covenant
they no longer will be supported
And that comes to an end. So I'm just
going to note one other
intergenerational
identification which maybe this really
will take us towards next week
and that is that the person who comes in
to fight
is of course Pinfas.
In source number
18,
source number 19.
If you want, we can keep on finding
other places. Pinas
you have the similarity in source number
20 after the whole showdown with he goes
back to says perse
the same like pinas has and it's at that
point that you have him seeing let's
just get the exact verse and you realize
this is also the Torah for
ove
you know this the incredible loud
display
but that's ultimately not God
that ultimately it's not this loud thing
there's something which is very quiet so
I'm not explaining everything because if
you didn't notice I'm rushing because
I'm finishing and that is that
ultimately
Eli Yahu becomes, if you will, the Mala
or the emissary or the for the Brit that
whenever there's a Brit, he's going to
be there. Which means the claim on the
other side and and and then you go
deeper, the Brit, the whole idea of
Britain, the idea of self-control and
self-limitation and so on and so forth.
But it's it's much more than that. It's
that the claim on the other side is that
God will abandon us when we break the
covenant. And maybe it's kind of like
the covenant between Yakob and Love and
one side breaks it, so now it's
forfeited. But this is a covenant which
is also transgenerational and it's with
every generation of Jews. And if one
little pocket of Jews at some point
break the covenant, it's still there for
previous generations and the subsequent
generations. Which means the same way
you can have a a love who somehow morphs
into a bum, you're going to have a pinas
who morphs into an elyah and you're
going to have and he is the one who
speaks about the Brit. And he's the one
who realized the Brit is ultimately not
something which is very loud and
displayed but is something which is very
quiet and in internal but this internal
brid is actually eternal and therefore
it's something which also lasts. So I'm
going to say it again. If I if this
wasn't clear enough,
the story in this week's para is not a
new story. There are elements of it
which are there just staring at you. The
cluster of elements are all there in the
love and story already. You have
Midrash, Gumar, other mystical sources
telling you that either there is this
genealogical relationship between
Lavan and Bum or there is a deeper
spiritual and within the students of the
Arial. It's both. It's both a descendant
and a Gilgal. They're both they're both
true. This is love on 2.0. This is who
he is. And therefore, he can have a
dream, but he can ignore the dream. He
could be told by God where somebody else
could be told by God what's going on and
then really be careful which means even
when God warns you, you can still have
your free will and not to be bothered.
So who knows who God has warned
throughout history and said don't start
with the Jews. This is not going to take
place. The other thing which for us is
uh you know sometimes it's comforting
sometimes not is to realize that
ultimately in the background when people
really are going after us that God is
there in the background protecting us
warning them and doing what needs to be
done and whether it's going to take uh
the wealth of love and give it over to
Yakov or whether it's going to be to
make a donkey start talking and and
throw a guy into the into the thing
which symbolizes the very covenant that
he broke. But that covenant could be
broke. But the covenant between God and
the Jewish people is one which remains
because it's also throughout the
generations. So the same way that
they're going to attack us in this,
shall we say, intergenerational
approach by this confederacy of evil
which is not just in one generation but
goes throughout history. We also have
this other side of of being protected by
that. And ultimately we realize
sometimes it's very quiet, sometimes
it's the middle of the night, but God is
there who is still guiding us and
guarding us and taking care of us. And
that's also a uh part of the message of
this whole story and therefore don't
ignore the dream because the dream is
really the important thing over here.
But then don't ignore the cluster
because there are all these other words
that come up as well because when we
read this story part of it should be wow
what an interesting story and part of it
no there's something familiar about
this. I think I've seen this before. It
could even be that if some of you
unfortunate enough to read the
newspapers, maybe even reading about it
now.
