Bitachon 172 - In Times of Danger - Expect Kindness

you're listening to the 172nd edition of podcast we continue from this is chapter of Psalms verse 4 on the day that I am afraid I will trust toward you a toward you I will turn and Trust says even if I am in a terribly difficult situation the oppressors are oppressing I'm afraid of my enemies to you I will look I will trust you that you will help me feel even if the sword is on the neck of the human being person should not stop himself not believe that it's impossible you shouldn't believe right too many negatives here it's not impossible it's completely possible excuse me that he will be saved by Hashem even if all of the ballistic missiles are lined up all the drones are ready to go and it seems like the attack is forthcoming don't turn to anyone but Hashem Hashem is the one to whom we can turn and I'd like to actually be m in the language of Kaz which he quoted person shouldn't hold himself back from compassion that's the word say it means I shouldn't I shouldn't think it's impossible that hasm will help me I shouldn't think that hm won't have ra on me but I'd like to notice the languages that a person based on what he believes can prevent himself from getting compassion from a if I believe that all hope is lost heav forbid if I think that that's true so then hasem may leave me there so to speak means don't prevent yourself from getting compassion all it takes is a turn maybe I didn't deserve it one moment ago but now I do why because I I serve because I turn to Hashem and I say it is to you that I trust it's to you that I face it's to you that I place My Hope and I believe that you are compassionate and I believe that you want to help me so again the day that I'm afraid right we're not talking about a day when you know it just looks a little scary it looks like we're talking about here a moment where it is I'm afraid the danger is there the the sword is on my neck still I turn to hasem I don't prevent The Compassion from taking hold upon me says the AL says it's worth noticing that it could have said in you I trust or on you I trust well it doesn't say in you or on you it says to you so what's the why does it say to you I trust what King David is saying is that my way is that there's a day that I'm afraid says the it says it comes to be it's really it can attach itself to the first part of the verse or the second part or both he's going to explain it with both I'm afraid because I'm to you King David is saying I'm not like other people other people make the matters of this world to be the main thing that they're concerned about but that's not how I am I my my whole the the center of my existence the center of my focus the center of my Consciousness is you towards you it's to you that I am turning it's to you that I focus all of my desires all of my needs in life so that sometimes brings about a fear why this is how I understand what he says that my enemies they see that I am focused on and and I'm focused on spirituality and not so much on the go exp not so much on the physicality so sometimes a person it can look bad for that person you're sitting and learning why aren't you going out and fighting why aren't you going out and and earning a paraso earning a livelihood you're sitting and learning you're focused on spirituality why are you doing that looks bad and even maybe I'm opening myself to my enemies they say oh look he's an easy target easy to get him but says I am turned towards you my focus is towards you my my all of my desires are for you for Sanctified to heaven the very thing that would seem to bring about things that I should be afraid of is the very essence of what I know how I know that I can trust you and that I can fear the only one that's true the only one that truly needs to be feared which is HEM it brings here the somebody who evaluates his past and he tries to always stay on the middle path to live a life of balance not too far this way not too far that way whether he's having a difficult time in Life or whether he is having a successful time in life he tries to stay in the middle he doesn't get too excited doesn't get too bothered such a person will see the salvation of hasem him later in this chapter it say says in my God I shall place my praise in Hashem I shall place my praise uses two different names of Hashem elim which as we'll see denotes then denotes God's judgment and that means sometimes I have situations in my life that are difficult but also uses the which notes hashem's Mercy is his compassion this means to say whether we're talking about times of hm's judgment whether we're talking about the ti on HM employs his attribute of Mercy in his relationship with me Pik says give me Hashem give me Grace because there are those there are those human beings who who they have a they have a desire to cause me harm this is a PK earlier in in this chapter truly P says but he understands it as right my enemy is desire to cause me arm so says the day I fear I will place my trust in you in my times of trouble I will turn my hope I will turn my belief of salvation towards you Hashem whether it's whether it's moment of judgment and difficulty I will praise you whether it's a moment of your mercy I'm succeeding I will praise you hashm I will recognize that everything is from you I'll always turn towards you and I would say that you know we live in a time where there's a lot of there's a lot of physical success for Jews for the Yeshiva World we have a lot of success spiritually in our learning Etc and one of the things that we need to do and I heard this from one of the things that we need to do is that in a time of of where times are good to work on our to work on our trust to remember remind ourselves remind ourselves it's hard to remind yourself when you're succeeding that this is from hasem but when we when we develop that recognition could be this is part of what he's trying to say when we develop that recognition when things are going well so then we have it in our arsenal we have it in our back pocket to use when things are not going as well I will praise hasem both for the good and for the bad that's the he brings here from the he says you know when we have a situation of something that we're afraid of something fearful has come into our life and it's natural to be afraid but he says when you're afraid you have to have the right focus in that fear don't be afraid of the thing that you're afraid of because of itself be afraid of the one who sometimes punishes and use those things as means for the punishment in other words it's not pule it's not something negative to be afraid per se but the question is how do we experience that fear and where do we direct our thoughts in the fear and so he says make sure you recognize that as that fear appears it's Hashem I'm fearing Hashem it reminds me of what there's a little my daughter likes to hang little uh notes on the door of our house that one of the notes is in Hebrew I'll say it in English um you can't always bring your prayers to tears can't always bring yourself to tears while you're praying but you could always bring your tears to prayer which means I can always take my tears if I'm already crying about something and turn it towards prayer use the sadness that I feel about something to ask Hashem for what I need ask for Hashem for what amus needs Etc and here too if I'm afraid I can direct my thoughts and my feelings in the correct direction person should be afraid of hashem's punishment might be upset at me maybe I've done something wrong but what that towards us is that once we've directed our fear to Hashem and his punishment I can also trust that Hashem is kind know that hasem is a loving father sometimes a father punishes a child they've done wrong the child needs to be put back on the straight and narrow but just like a father cares about his child doesn't really want to punish the child shows remorse child shows that he loves the father he wants to do the father's will so then the father can pull out from his back pocket his kindness and the same thing is true of King David says in recognizing that there's a a sword that Hashem brings upon him a difficulty a challenge an oppressor an enemy he says you saved me he talks about the fact that it's Hashem who was brought about the difficult but at the same time you saved me from it this is the sword of hashem's um Vengeance the sword of hm's vengeance is one which he takes out but it's a two-edged sword because on one side it's Vengeance but on the other side it's sting to do kindness it's waiting for us to turn back to him so that we don't need the sword to be at our throats this is the kind of wants says hem wants those who fear Him right we talk a lot in our in our we talk a lot about fear we say every single day we say three times a day is close to those who call out to him in truth we talk about the fact that Hashem is wants those who fear Him here we say we we contrast we put in the same P King David put in the same the fact that hasem wants those who fear Him those who are waiting and are hoping for his kindness so it sounds like a contradiction oh I'm afraid of somebody I'm going to expect kindness from him right but it's not a contradiction as every father knows every mother knows we love our kids we want to give them healthy boundaries and at the same time we we we uh push the boundaries we allow our kids to push the boundaries because we love them we want the boundaries to be clear you don't want to have too much candy but for shabas have some candy and he brings here on the bottom a continuation in regards to the greatness of Salvation said let's say a human being has a p someone who takes care of him someone he knows he can go to in times of trouble so if the Trouble Comes A person is experiencing a trouble and he wants to go ask the patron for help doesn't just like run into the guy's room and say help me out you come to the to the door of the patron you call out to of the servants who works there one of the children and then the the servant or the child says to the father such and such a person is standing at the door he doesn't know if the guy the patron is even going to let him in he's even going to help him is not that way if a person experiences a difficulty don't start praying to a Mal right you don't want to ask the servant it's unnecessary I would say to ask the servant and I would add it's a very Lous thing to say what it's better it's not necessary to go to somebody maybe who is a big sadic maybe someone who's uh known for his blessings Etc no says hasem is saying to us call to me directly I'm not like the patron you have to knock on the door and maybe you'll get an audience maybe you won't call to me directly Hashem says I will answer your prayers I will come and help you out immediately that's the first note the second note in his explanation in when a difficulty comes upon a person person needs to have the following approach everything that happens in my life everything that happens to my people is from God and being that that's the case it's an amazing thing it's like it's it's counterintuitive if someone is striking me if someone is beating me up so that's not the guy I need to turn to to ask for Al but that's not the same when when it comes to hasem hasem is the one striking us and he's our loving father he's not striking us out of malice he's striking us out of love the face of his heart where should his heart face where should his feelings turn to hem person shouldn't pay attention to the fear of the wound of the Affliction that he's experiencing it's absolutely an amazing thing why is HEM punishing me that's not the right thought when I'm being punished it's Hashem help me Hashem saved meem help me do chuva hasem help me have favor in your eyes it reminds me of not long ago I have a little baby boy he was about a year and a half old I don't remember exactly what happened I gave him a little PCH and maybe he stuck his finger into the into the the outlet or maybe I don't remember something he did something dangerous and they gave him a little PCH on his hand and he cried it wasn't so painful I know he cried and he ran into my arms and he gave him a big hug so I would say it's almost instinctual for us really to turn to our father to turn to Hashem what happens as we get a little bit older so we start to have more ego and we resent the person who gave us pain right and that's natural that's human but what we're seeing here from and from from the is that it's the wrong perspective the natural perspective of a year and a halfy old that he doesn't recognize that the pain that he just experienced which of course was for his good so that he shouldn't do something dangerous doesn't recognize that the pain he experiences because his father hit him and and he's angry at his father doesn't that doesn't even cross his mind he's just looking for Comfort he's looking for a hug that's the way we're supposed to feel that that innocence that lack of ego and I would say that when we were when we are in a place like that when we can turn ourselves into that g the child is still suckling at his mother's bosom if we can turn ourselves into that have that sense that feeling we've we've limited our ego and it allows hem to come into our lives a person hasn't turn to hem and have absolute trust without any doubt because both the wound the difficulty that's happening to us and the Salvation from that difficulty are in the hands of the one who's bringing the challenge upon us and don't be um don't be confused don't fall into a state of confusion because of the challenge and the difficulty the the focus in that moment should be about the certainty of salvation of of help of being saved because you should know that hem has so many ways of saving us that whether it's after or before Hashem can save us from difficulties that's seems more obvious but even after hasm has brought about difficulties upon us he can save us just as easily as before the difficulties came you go out to war you'll see many ballistic missiles you'll see many armed army members literally you'll see many horses and chariots tremendous amount of of of soldiers many more than you have don't be afraid of them says the we are being taught here that if a person sees a difficult situation is right in front of him the focus of a of a person's heart should just be I'm going to be saved I know I'm going to be saved I know is going to save me trust in it says 85:10 sh is close to those who fear Him his salvation is so close says in Isaiah who are you that you should be afraid of a human being who can so easily die so all of this is to remind us to remember to incorporate into our into our Consciousness that Hashem if we are experiencing the difficulty Hashem is the one who has brought it and Hashem will show us
