Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz at Ptex Group

I love uh frankly uh some of your uh outlines of what your work is branding and marketing we all know that a lot of companies make great products but the ones that succeed the most are those that are able to Brand their product so that the consumer has instant recollection of it and the marketing of it and that's what makes the difference between success and failure marketing it's all about marketing on almost every product that we're involved in printing in design I don't have to tell you today my wife by the way is a uh graphic artist when she went to school there were no computers uh she had to make the transition from doing it by hand but even with the computer it still requires the Brilliance of creativity uh to be able to design a piece that automatically gets the attention of the very busy customers or potential customers that are out there and the minute you're able to grab a person's attention you have a shot of making the sale office and call center I want to talk about the call center and I made the story mention the story a bit at 65 years of age uh I became a firsttime homeowner a firsttime home buyer homeowner and I had to call the mortgage company by the way you're all invited my mortgage burning 30-year mortgage I took out December 1st 2039 I got to tell you something you got to respect the bank that gives a 65y old a 30-year B now that is optimism let me tell you I'm with that anyway I want to make that last payment then I really do but I had an occasion to call about a mortgage payment and suddenly when I called the call center of that bank I was speaking to somebody in the middle of India now no disrespect about India or any other nation in the world but the truth of the matter is seems to me call center and those uh Banks and other financial institutions understood that they can get their work done right here in Brooklyn even in burrow park at a price that's competitive with India it would be more of our folks working so you've got your work cut out for you on that item that's what you are web in development now Ben and I I'm older than Ben but the web is you know for me it's I'm I'm pretty good email the rest of it but you know I got to tell you there's no question that uh it's all about the computer and the internet and how you pitch on there and let's face it more and more of the world I can tell you at meetings I go to you're looking at me right now that's a rare thing most meetings I go to everyone's head are towards their lap now why are they looking at their lap they're not looking at their legs or anything else they're looking at that little machine in their hand doing their text or emails and now I have to ban people in my office from using those things at meetings but the truth of the matter is listen you can't hold the future up that's the future and that's the present so to PEX and to many uh many you're the uh you're the boss obviously you had the vision to put this together and you deserve all the accolades plus the sleepless nights as you worry about something called p&l p&l is the most important thing we don't have that for those of us that are salary people we don't have this DNL issue but believe me I I I know how the seriousness of saying O is the business going to be all right I got to make payroll and taxes investment design the future it's unbelievable so that's why I say that entrepreneurs that make more money than those of us in service of the city you know what you deserve it more because you roll the dice and and the success is based upon your Brilliance and your ability as a manager and the right product at the right time and so I commend you all I can wish repeat Tex is make a lot of money because remember the more you make the more we take so we're in this together you understand that now we're only a junior partner with you a very for now but we want you to be successful a more employees that are working and they're paying taxes your corporation is paying taxes am I right anyway and you're right here in the middle of God's country which we call Brooklyn true and uh so I wanted to present if I may to many if I may present this to you please come up here for a moment on behalf of all of us I salute president Min Hoffman and okay okay hotness I'm ass take another one in so from all that you're doing uh for Burl Park and for Brooklyn uh for the future uh of uh making an important contribution especially the small businesses in our burrow because rickle that's the lifeline of our burrow there's no question that's the economic strength of Brooklyn so I wish you lots of maul and a z PES off one and all and to declare this day PEX group launch Celebration Day in the I should have put it down Republic of Brooklyn [Applause] USA okay what that's it okay um we have the Brooklyn V president there first of all
