Working as a nursing home employee, and
I've worked at a lot of nursing homes in
my career,
>> [music]
>> why is it that most of the nursing homes
are owned by Jewish people?
And if it ain't owned by a Jewish
person, it's owned by somebody that
knows a Jewish person that owns a
nursing home.
Something to think about.
I'm going to assume that you're asking
this question simply because you
genuinely want to know the answer. The
fact of the matter is, it happens to be
a great question. There's about 15,000
nursing homes in the United States, and
there's around 10% are owned by Jewish
people. Not only Jewish people, Orthodox
Jewish people. It is completely
disproportionate in number to the amount
of nursing homes. So, I've gotten this
question asked to me, albeit in a
respectful way, which I'm not sure how
respectful your question was, but that's
your problem, not mine. But, the answer
is Jews look for two things when they go
into a business. Number one, does it
make a lot of money?
And number two, is it ethical and does
it make the world a slightly better
place? So, there's a lot of businesses
that make a lot of money, but make the
world a worse place. There's a lot of
businesses that make the world a better
place, but you don't make a lot of
money. The nursing home industry happens
to hit both sweet spots. You have the
ability to make a lot of money, and you
have the ability to make the world a
better place. And that's why you find a
lot of Orthodox Jews gravitate towards
the business.
