if i can call upon scott carter scott
carter please come up to the podium
thank you
okay if i can have a representative of
lakewood volunteer first aid come up to
the podium as well
and if i could have the uh
these three organizations here are
currently our three organizations
that have emergency medical technicians
that answer the polls day and night to
assist our residents here at lakewood at
this point i'm going to join the mic
over to mayor
and
explain
thank you mayor
and it's an honor for me to stand here
and i'll say with my fellow emts and
some
paramedics to
honor
the squads in town all three liquid ems
lake before state lake would not solve
i've been a member actually of a
volunteer tall squad for about 18 years
but since i've joined the committee i
think my full value has dropped but they
still allow me to
call myself a member and take some calls
um you know today uh for those of us who
are reading the asbury park press
we probably have read about the
unfortunate
passing of a 16 year old resident of
lakewood township who perished
today
from an accident a couple of weeks ago
where a school bus flipped over
she was not a passenger on buses driving
by on a bike
i was not in town at that time but when
i came back and i got reports from all
three squads standing to my side it was
amazing to me to see
how these three squads work together
between the three squads we probably
handle over 10 000 uh calls here in town
for requests for medical
service or for ambulances
the person who perished was
unfortunately 16 year old
a young hispanic female
and
the only issue that i heard
at that
call was that some of the members of one
of the squads in the haste to save a
life
dove under a bus
maybe not 100 protected and have to be
pulled back
and that to me speaks about how well
these three squads work together because
it was all three squads working together
who put their own life in peril to get
under that bus
to pull this young child out
and i know that there are calls that go
answer the middle of the night ems
doesn't take a break 24 hours seven days
a week
365 days a year our dedicated paid
dedicated volunteer squads in this town
are so appreciated for what they do
and obviously as you can tell this is
something that's very very close to my
heart having been involved
peripherally for the past couple of
years with the squads but just amazing
amazing groups of people people who give
up
of their time especially on the
volunteering people who give up of their
time and their family time to be
available to the members of this
community in all three squads service
all communities
across this town so please if i can ask
for mayor with your commission a
standing ovation for our ems
