I love this insight that they say over in the name of one of the great Chasidic masters. I even heard somebody say it in the name of the holy R’ Levi Yitzchok of Berditchev. Why is it that Jews love drinking coffee in the morning? In Yiddish, the word for coffee is קאווע. And what is a coffee made up of? The coffee beans are bitter, the sugar is sweet, the water is hot and the milk is cold. During the day, you may have moments that are sweet as sugar, bitter as coffee beans, hot and warm and geshmak as hot water, and cold as cold milk. You may become disoriented. The power of a Jew is you take these four ingredients, you put them together, you create from them a קאווע, a coffee, and you make a Bracha, ברוך אתה ה’ אלוקינו מלך העולם שהכל נהיה בדברו. The bitter coffee beans, the sweet sugar, the hot water, the cold milk, שהכל נהיה בדברו it's all part of His presence, His energy, His word. And together you have a קאווע. Hope and look out to Hashem. I was once leaving the Kosel, and a Jew came over to me, and he says, You are a Maggid, you speak, so let me tell you a vort. It was Rosh Chodesh. He said: Let me tell you an epiphany that I had during Hallel. During Hallel we say, This day Hashem made. Let's rejoice and celebrate in this day. And he said: An epiphany that came in is that it's actually talking about every single day. When you look at a day, you got to say this, זה היום, you see this day? עשה השם Hashem is the one who made this day. Sometimes I wake up on my right side, sometimes I wake up in a bad mood, sometimes the day is going gevaldig, and sometimes the day starts off on the left foot. We all have different types of days. Sometimes you have a curveball. זה היום עשה השם. This day was made by Hashem and therefore, נגילה ונשמחה בו, enjoy it, celebrate it.
