Fal memory of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Zaxb
today is turn Friday of Shabas is
dedicated in memory of my wife's
grandmother our babi this is brookstein
whose site is tomorrow on shabas and
nama should have an aliyah and dedicated
in memory of Bonnie Minsky my mutton's
mother as well her nama should have an
aliyah I want to share with you an idea
something to turn our Friday into shabas
something for all of us to work on
there's a beautiful safer called ben
melik shabas Kesh of NS Yehud Minsburg
who was the Russ of Yeshiva Masmid. He
lived 1943 to 2018 and he wrote a series
of called Ben and one of them is on
Shabas.
One of them is on Shab Shabases and in
it he writes the following.
One of the aspects one of the themes of
Shabas is it is a day of song. It's a
day of music.
Think about what we say tonight.
It's a song dedicated. I dedicate this
song to Shabas.
It's good to praise Hashem, to thank
Hashem
and to play music, to sing song to his
holy name.
All of these are references to
instruments and to song. Shabas is a
time of song.
So why is Shabas a time of song? On the
one hand song reflects happiness and
Shabas were happy, gratified and
fulfilled. Certainly that's part of it.
But here the Melik says something which
I think is very beautiful and something
that can inspire our Friday, our Arab
Shabas.
The whole universe, the whole world, our
world is all singing to Hashem. It's a
symphony. Our world is a symphony. The
leaves are rustling and the birds are
chirping. And whether it's the snow
making a sound when you walk on it, or
maybe it's the sand on the beach, or
maybe it's the sounds you hear of
children playing, the sounds of people,
loved ones. All of those sounds are part
of the orchestra that is playing for
why does that play only on Shabas or
most on Shabas? Why not all the rest of
the week?
raise your eyes to the heavens and see
who created all this said
because we see the
everything in creation is singing its
own song to God. Every bug, every fly,
every chair, every table, everything is
singing its song to Hashem. It's tribute
to Hashem.
From every creation there is a unique
and distinct song sung to acknowledge
and thank and praise hemd
and this one's song is not fulfilled
through someone else and that was song
is not covered in this one's everyone is
unique and distinct everyone sings its
own song when was the orchestra complete
because you need all the sections
the strings and the horns and the
percussions and the when were all the
sections and all the instruments when
was the orchestra complete that it could
now play its full song in harmony that
was shabas
when the pieces were being put into
place the picture didn't become clear
when you were adding instruments to the
orchestra only when it was done does the
whole symphony come together
when the heaven and the earth and
everything was created. Now the
orchestra is complete as
so shabas therefore is the time the
greatest time of that song is on shabas.
Why do I share that with you? Because
maybe one of the ways that we can turn
our Friday into shabas is davka. Even if
all week long we don't play music, we
don't listen to song, listen more
carefully on air of shabas. Get ready
for shabas by tuning in, by opening up
your ear, by listening a little bit more
carefully. Listen. Listen to the birds
chirp. Listen to the leaves rustle.
Listen to the sound of the wind. Listen
to the people, the hum. Listen. Listen
to the coffee maker or the engine of
your car. Listen. Everything in creation
is playing. It's singing its unique song
to Hashem. Come Shabas, the orchestra is
full. The symphony is complete. The song
is perfected. And so one of the ways
that we can get ready in going into
Shabas to be able to hear it best is to
tune in our hearing on Friday. So put a
Shabas mix together. Put a Shabas mix
and play that Shabas mix. Wake up to
that Shabas mix if you can. Set your
alarm on Friday morning of Shabas. Every
other morning beep beep beep. Friday
morning you turn Friday into Shabas by
waking up to song by hearing the song
singing the song of Shabas. Shabas is a
time of song. It's mischie.
a time of
it's a time of
look who created all of this. Feel that
connection. Feel that love. Feel your
heart open up. And may we always sing
the song of sh.
