okay so I just checked into the hotel
and what happened till now from when I
landed in Baku until I got to the hotel
was quite crazy it started when I got
out of the airport and I tried to
request an uber from the uber app uber
ride away connected me with the driver
and within minutes he had arrived at the
airport parking lot and I was supposed
to go find them now it was weird because
usually when I order an uber driver the
driver will just sit in a specific place
and you sort of have to find your way
over to the car that's not the way it
worked here I saw that the drivers car
was moving around the parking lot didn't
even make sense that the driver could
move around so quickly after about five
minutes of looking around and asking in
different cars that they were my driver
some guy walked up to me and asked me if
I was going to the pastures boutique
hotel which is where I'm staying
I said I was and it turns out this was
my uber driver so he was actually
walking around the parking lot he wasn't
sitting in his car he was walking around
looking for me so I get into his car and
he asks me to give him some cash and I
said what for I'm supposed to be paying
with credit card it says all I could
catch to get out of the airport parking
lot like you I guess he had paid money
to sit in the parking lot so he needs
the cash for that I said I'm sorry but
that's not how this works you know I'm
gonna pay he whatever overcharged my
card and that's where he'll get your
money for him so he said no I need cash
he said just cancelled a ride and you
pay me in cash I said okay how much cash
so you asked for thirty manat thirty
minutes is about eighteen US dollars but
the uber app audacity for 10.9 manat
so that would be probably about six
dollars or so so I didn't feel like
obvious that what he was trying to scam
me basically what he was trying to
get me to cancel the uber ride and pay
him in cash so I told him that I would
not do that so then he started to ask me
for less money he asked for 20 month I
told him I wouldn't do that either
then he said you know just get out of my
car so I took my stuff and left I
ordered another uber and this time I
couldn't find the driver out walking
around the parking lot and I just
couldn't find the guy and then I noticed
that I was missing my travel pillow you
know the neck pillows that people take
on planes it's actually really helpful
it helps me sleep a lot of flights and
that's very important sometimes when I'm
trying to think for many days in a row
since I don't know I don't know it's
good to spend a night in a hotel so I'm
spending a night on the road and we're
and I'm gonna be in a car or a plane I
always take that pillows and that helps
me sleep
so anyway I realized I'm missing my neck
pillow and I realized that it's in this
previous uber drivers car thankfully I
had the guy's phone number and I called
him he answered and he met me and he
gave back the pillow so even though he
was sort of a con artist or a scam
artist and tried to get me to pay him
extra money to take me when over was
gonna charge a third of the price he was
honest enough to give me back my pillow
which I appreciated then I continued
looking for my second door driver and he
never showed up so I had to cancel that
one too so I got charged twice I got
charged for canceling the first ride I
got charged for casting the second ride
and hopefully I'm gonna be able to fight
those and get my money back
not a lot of money but it's a matter of
principle I should not have to pay for
something that I did not use and then I
ordered a third uber at this point I was
ready to give up because drivers were
harassing me and I kept telling them I
had an uber on the way and they're like
no we're doesn't work here you're not
gonna get an uber everyone's gonna
charge you and drivers are offering me
prices like thirty one not two forty
minute that's already up to like $25 and
they're just harassing you and you know
how I guess it's 4:00 in the morning I'm
really tired and I just want to get into
bed and basically I decided I'm gonna
try Wilbur one more time if it doesn't
work I'm just gonna have to cave to
these guys and try to
someone who has the best price I ordered
a third uber the driver showed up in a
second and actually he was an honest
driver so I just put my stuff into the
car we drove it to the city and half
hour later Here I am at my hotel so if
you're watching this this is my first
impression of Baku Azerbaijan I was not
pleased with what happened in the
beginning I feel it's very unfair for
drivers to be scamming tourists or
passengers getting off planes late at
night I feel bad for them I understand
they're doing this because they're
probably in dire financial situations
but this is not the way that things
should be done you know if you're
working for uber uber has a pretty good
reputation and you have to uphold that
reputation so I'm gonna deal with over
I'm going to be contacting them to
report this driver who was trying to
scam me but I also must say to all the
hard-working people at Ober who do their
jobs properly and who are honest we
appreciate you I appreciate you and keep
doing what you're doing you are what
makes the world a better place that's
all have a good night
