with me via telephone as mentioned all
the way from Seagate New York here to
discuss his latest album the album that
is taking the World by storm enough so
that people are running to their stores
to buy it SOA ladies and gentlemen the
one and only Mor David hello hello Yi
how are you you know M I was just
thinking the other day I went online and
I was trying to figure out when was the
last time that we did an interview
believe it or not it was in 2009 where
we did a three-part video When You
released kulah now we're coming round
circle to the first time of you on my
show and I'm I'm just happy that it's
all coming
around
so talk to me abouta what do you want to
know tell me I want to know
why why Saka why now 13 tracks it's been
a while since you released your last
album I believe it was about three and a
half years ago uh that word made its way
to us in the music industry that you
were in ER working with yly Dickman mhm
and three years ago three years ago
summer three years ago summer um and
then I heard you were working with yle
and then all of a sudden I get 13 tracks
and I only see Yi's working on one of
those tracks so what happened two of the
tracks so what happened in the inter uh
it's a long complicated story but to
make it bitu I started working with Yi
we recorded 12 songs and uh
simultaneously I didn't know about y y
didn't know about me he didn't know I
was working on this album so he went he
recorded as a surprise to me he recorded
18 songs for me wow so we had 30 songs
now with Yi I recorded in Israel all the
music and all the choirs and many of the
vocals as well my vo my vocals when I
came back I was listening to the choir
and the choir although sounded beautiful
but the color of the choir was not what
I'm used to I'm used to the color of
Shir which has a certain warmth that it
was lacking so I brought down it took a
while but I brought down y to New York
when he was not not as busy as he is
usually he came down uh he came on a
Sunday morning and he left on Thursday
afternoon back to is RO and in that week
we sat in the studio with intensity and
we recorded we added to the choir that
existed just to give more the call that
I wanted the entire album he was
recording on on a small hard drive which
is a big no no so anybody's listening
out there that records music you should
know you never record on a small hard
drive no Portables Allowed no Portables
in middle of the last song his hard
drive crashed and he lost all the
information wow he went back to and he
was looking for a company which took us
a while till he found the company it was
able to retrieve it but they told him
it's going to take a long time and that
long time took a half year we got all
the information but it took a half year
and I don't have to tell you how
frustrating it is when you're working on
on a project and suddenly you can't you
can't move on in the interim I started
getting songs from Ellie Clin and Y
berry which I fell in love with I really
liked what they were doing and um and
their turnaround was was instantly like
like a mish hair of iron I asked them to
to to send me a demo so I can record it
in St see what it sounds like within a
day I had everything wow so every time
they sent me a song I I just got it I
got it instantly so I said well that's
the way to go instead of waiting a half
year for to retrieve a choir so between
the between all that was going on we had
like 40 45 songs recorded 45 songs yeah
40 45 I don't remember the exact number
but I got I got a ton of stuff a ton of
material from from uh from Ellie Klein I
Berry as well and then then I decided to
to start doing vocals on whatever was
not done yet and and from that I decided
to choose the the songs that that I felt
was best for this project oh being I had
so many songs instead of putting on 10
which is the usual I decided I I got to
put at least 13 well as a fan I
appreciate the extra songs but as an as
a somebody who I would say knows a
little bit about Mor and David and his
his recording style you tend to always
from what I remember always over over
record more than 10 songs per album
before you actually put them on correct
yeah but that's just a few extra songs
not not this many never had never
recorded 40 songs no totally totally out
of line and uh just to mention to those
to the listeners that the many many
people have asked about iTunes why
hasn't been on iTunes we had
complications with the companies that do
the uploading to iTunes for some reason
they uh I don't know if it has to do
with with only the Jewish religion but
anything that does not have that doesn't
have an English title on the front cover
they refuse to uh refuse to upload so've
going back and forth with different
companies it was on for like two hours
and went back off and the pricing was
wrong but we hope that within the next
day or two it should be up and running
properly that's our we looking forward I
wanted you to know that I pre-ordered it
believe it or not and the feedback has
been incredibly incredible people are
like off the hook messages text messages
whatsapps and and and emails and phone
calls it it's just I've never had
anything like this
before I tell you something another
phenomenon that that that's H has
happened in the last couple of days I've
gotten several requests from people who
said they have the album they love the
album and uh but they got it on a
WhatsApp group and they know it's not
fair so one guy wrote to me he says you
know it's very interesting that people
would appreciate an album and listen to
it over and over again they got it on a
WhatsApp group and they wouldn't spend
the $10 which is something that have
they have an know from constantly over
and over and over again right the guy
walks in the guy one guy wrote to me guy
walks into a pizza shop to eat lunch it
cost him $10 and he enjoys it for 10
minutes and then he'll probably get a
stomach ache but this is something that
a guy will listen to over and over and
over again and and everyone knows and
understands the kind of money and the
effort and hours and endless hours that
goes into an album why wouldn't a person
have the SE to pay $10 so this guy
requested he said I finally got your
phone number it took me six people to
get to you but I want to pay for it that
was the first guy then we got from other
people that say we'd like to pay we got
it from the WhatsApp group and we feel
it's not fair to you or to the people
who are produce it and we want to pay
for it right so actually because of that
we we set up an account a Chase quick
pay account really called pmbd gmail.com
and people started it's unbelievable
people are Mish responding and I guess
they feel guilty for some reason some
some people some people still have some
some guilt feeling and and it's pouring
in people are paying I wonder if you're
going to get more payments come L time
it's amazing amazing truly amazing so
Mor I've been going through your album I
see three songs from you five songs from
Ellie Klein two songs from y fukes two
songs from Yosi green I don't even know
where to begin I mean you've been
composing for so many years um and I'm
still amazed by it I wanted to mention
the song that you composed That You
released for your granddaughter's
wedding when needle's daughter got
married Bo kala now I actually went back
online because this was released as a
single and I listened to it the original
song That You released then not only
didn't have the same Arrangement you
didn't have yle there doing this oan
yeah it came came along with the new
Arrangements that's and you know what it
adds so much more flavor and and it's
amazing that you you compose the song
you know at the time of that and over
here the father of the Kal is you know
getting to add a little bit of a a TI I
guess up in a little bit of Harmony
absolutely yeah and from what I've been
hearing people have playing this at
hna's literally left and right yeah I
just got a just got a clip someone sent
me a clip from last night's some some
wedding with shiru singing with with a
big F band and uh that's the song they
were singing yeah they been singing
every night all over the place speaking
about Clips I mean this album is out
literally a week and a day a week and
two days it came out last Sunday and
already I saw three or four videos
yesterday yish put up a song I think
singing
uh there there like songs going up yeah
yes all the time it's amazing and it's
funny because I you know I I was with
yussi maybe four or five years ago I
believe and we were doing a composer
Workshop in his house and he introduced
us to this song and I was you know I
kept waiting when is it going to be an
album when is it going to be an album I
never thought it would take this long
but the arrangement and the emotion that
you're you're singing evokes you know
the vocals it's it it truly touches the
heart actually this is Arrangement uh I
don't know how how how much you're
involved in the uh what was going on and
behind the scenes there was a different
Arrangement which was written by amik
Coen originally yes yes he did tell me
that and that's the one that uh someone
stole off my phone at the night that I
recorded the choir someone took my phone
in in Israel asked me for a I need need
a phone for a favor he went outside
stepped outside for a second and sent it
to himself and that same day it was all
over the Internet so that thing was was
beyond and therefore we decided to redo
redo the arrangements so this part of
Army's Arrangement still left there ell
Klein and and yid and linski they they
they doctor up K Kus and but actually
the concept of the new Arrangement was
was shls really he yeah the concept of
the opening with the the acoustic
guitars and have it more of a soft
Arrangement that was she's she's idea
yeah always always comes up with
brilliant stuff it's an amazing song and
it has such a great story behind it uh
you know the the reason why you you
compose the song Who You compos who's y
comp compos the song for and that uh you
know Orin this is like this is like one
of those you know an ofam stories you
know you and Yosi just have this this uh
something about you I cannot say you
know that just you guys work and you
come up with these amazing songs now you
were saying you needed the Shir choir
for the AL can you tell me maybe why
this song you left it with mogam and not
with Shar uh well the reason this this
when we were working on the original
Arrangement right I that was that was in
Israel and uh was working with with
Moshi rot with the monogam on I did a
series of concerts with them right and I
it was like a last minute ditch I said
you know what I I love the way he does
choirs let me do one song with him
because he's he's got a special touch
he's got his own flavor and actually the
choirs were recorded on the original
Arrangement and then we adopted it we
used it for the uh for the new
Arrangement wow there's a little bit of
behind the scenes you didn't know about
with me via telephone David from Seagate
discussing his latest album in stores
now available mostly music.com going on
iTunes as morai says any day now and
again if you download it illegally what
is it paym at gmail.com for uh QuickPay
pay MBD gmail.com and mor let me ask you
if somebody has ever stolen an album for
you can he can he get back into the good
graces can he do the right thing by
paying now or is it only for the new
album uh they can do for anything
actually but I always people have always
asked me said you know I I feel guilty
like before sh comes to people feel
guilty right get go you know it's funny
I remember this I I I downloaded your
album how can I repay you so before we
have this setup which is just recent I
used to say go to iTunes and download it
so right I'll get paid I wanted to tell
you it's funny because I remember
discussing with gonine years ago that
you know if you bought his album and you
wanted to make a copy for your car or
for you know the house or for the office
you know whether it was allowed or not
allowed where do you stand on that M so
I recently it's it's it's interesting
you mentioning it because recently I saw
a write up from I don't remember who it
was but someone had asked rakov kineski
uh personally if he says I bought an
album can I make a copy for myself so
Yakov said no I think he said that belki
said is not a problem so today's day and
age where we have this this sharing if
purple person buys from iTunes muscle so
all his all his Apple equipment will
automatically get syn up so I guess in
today's day and age it's very hard to
say that a person bought an album you
can't download you can't make a copy for
yourself but that's that's the matus of
people listen to in the car people
listen at home in the office I wanted to
talk to you about y fukes you uh got
introduced to him before your your your
most recent album of course he did the
big hit on your last album two two very
different compositions from him on this
album first off we have the song uh
dedicated to your father by the way I I
believe the last time I saw you in
person was at that Shiva and I want to
tell you that I was I was inspired by
some of the amazing stories that I heard
just in the little bit of time that I
was there and uh and I got got to tell
you you know I'm sure this must have
been like one of the hardest things for
you to do like how do you put you know
some of your father's life in just one
song that's what three or four minutes
it's seven minutes but it's still still
condensed it's a
condensed Wikipedia of my father's life
basically when 3 36 years ago Mother
Leon passed away M I did a memory song
which was also devoted to her correct
right so actually this song was brought
to me by oh this is one of the the
little gift one of the 18 songs that
record
and he had in mind that's exactly what
he wanted he wanted a song from my
father so he had this this Melody
from who did the arrangement and uh when
he came back we needed lyrics so who's
the number one man in lyrics the only
one in yeah leap definitely came down to
the house and in no time he he's sober I
told him exactly what I like to write in
of course he didn't know my father the
well he knew him but he didn't know him
personally and this is more of a
personal thing about his his his
personal life so he uh he knocked it out
m one two3 so quick it's it's amazing
he's he's really really brilliant he's
very talented in many many things and
now he's into painting and sculptures
and uh you know I think I think people
tend to forget that that he started off
as you know one of the number one bat
and this is his wheelhouse you know this
is where he he thrives being able to
rhyme you know write amazing Yiddish one
after another oh on the spot on the spot
on the spot he was at y y's daughter's
wedding he was he did the the mitv he he
he was fascinating fascinating that
could be an album right there some of
the some of the even the good ones you
they'll have a little settle and they
have you know little notes and stuff he
just off off the cuff boom one after the
other so I wanted to tell you that I was
listening to your album Sunday when we
went on a family outing and we got to
this song and my wife turns to me in the
middle and she's like it's amazing how
he he phrased certain things you know
softer and and the way you did the
phrasing that it just emok so much
emotion from from the song you know
without having to you know go to the
high notes or the low notes just the way
the softness of your voice that it just
brought out the whole message and I I
just wanted to thank you for that
because we we enjoyed listening to it
now the otheruk song totally different
very much in the flavor that we have
come to know known him but with so much
more because Y what Yi Dickman did with
this song I think is spectacular it's
it's almost soundtrackyoutube
Broadway style of an arrangement that uh
I mean the the the lyrics of the song
are very very deep the nov you saying
that uh hashem's going to send you
hunger but you're not going to hunger
for actual food but you're gonna you're
going to hunger for Tyran for the words
of Hashem did he go through several
different arrangements so this was the
first thing he came up with no this is
the first thing he came up with it's
interesting this song actually uh I
spent I spent one evening with is fuks
in Los Angeles
byet a little kumit in his house and um
he's just he started playing this song
and I I was like wow what is this song
he said this is it's an old song I
recorded this 30 years ago you want to
take it I said I'm taking it you better
believe it amazing amazing morab and
David with us via telephone talking
about his latest album Saka in stores
now soon to be on iTunes Amazon music M
I must applaud you I I know that you
know singers I guess of your stature or
have been around for that much time you
know don't like technology but the fact
that that you opened up social media in
the last 2 three months and you you know
you upload these messages uh whether
they're you know inspiring whether they
reti whether they're just to give people
updates in your album this is something
I feel you know was missing you know
when I run freed started too also I know
you guys don't manage it you know but
you have a team managing it for you but
I think you'll see that people like to
reciprocate and give you their opinion
you know or thank you and this is the
best medium to do that yeah the reason I
uh actually the reason I started it was
because there was so many phony MBD out
there counts people claiming to be me
and posting all kinds of stuff which no
to to what I am or to what I would like
to be so I I basically have the choice I
had I had to put out a a uh social media
place where I where I can say what I can
say that's in today's world that's how
Trump became
president definitely but I'm I'm I'm
happy that the medium is there and I'm
happy that people can now comment to you
in real time uh I know you got to go
soon so we're going to we're going to
finish up this interview um Yi green
another song but but uh for me some of
the more intricate or more interesting
songs I would say lyrically and
Arrangement wise probably would be track
11 which would be bar bski and yol's Ash
is okay the lyrics are not you know I
mean I don't there probably is a couple
of Ash ises uh I don't know if you I
don't know if you you realize that this
this this album has a song which is the
first p ofm and has a song which is the
last P of I did this is the first BK
which one's the last
B by the way one of my listeners was
very he he was he he didn't know if he
should be upset or not cuz I I announced
the song as K and then I played the song
and I bumped into him in the street here
in Lakewood his name is Yoni and he goes
why did you s why did you call the song
call Nama I said what did I say wrong he
said it's called Al Nima I said I said
I'm looking at the book here I have in
front of me it's called K he's like I'm
telling you it should be called Alima so
this isn't a mistake is it no because
the chorus is is the of course it's
called the message that's what teach on
this after 70 years of his life the last
thing that he said
was every breath we take we should thank
the we take things for granted person
wakes up in the morning he opens up his
eyes his hands his feet everything is
working that's that's why say we wake up
but we don't realize that every breath
we take is is something to be thankful
for you go into a hospital and see
people on on traes and and oxygen and
whatnot every breath is like is a
struggle
work around day and night thanking for
every breath amazing amazing just you
you worked it backwards though you
started off with the last the last part
of the and then you almost ended with
the beginning a little bit of a because
because the last because the last p is
the most important message it's like and
every breath so before you start an
album you should know that every breath
is thankful to you know you know what's
funny you should say that M because I
was listening to track 13 the other day
and it's it's really it's really
becoming one of my fast favorites and
here's something that I wanted to
discuss with you a lot of listeners are
under the perception that the the last
tracks on the album are the ones that
the singer really wanted to kind of you
know like hide at the end and and bury
but people like me and you who are in
the industry know that the last track is
actually the opposite because I'm want
to give you something so tasteful at the
end that you're going to start the CD
all over again so how how easy or how
how hard was it to decide to put he hav
as the last track I'll tell you
something this particular album there
was you know was always a a question of
placement where do he put this song
dancing the other song M and if you'll
notice take a song like which is a
phenomenal phenomenal song where is it
all the way towards the end why because
it doesn't matter this album every
single song is so good that no matter
where you put the song is great but y
decided to put he ofum the last song
because everything said and done we have
to
remember yeah now it's a good I gotta
tell you the the arrangement for this
song is it's just something else uh by
the way this this this song was recorded
uh with with laer at the uh Shen album
so this 20 years ago yeah this is almost
15 years old then yeah this is left over
sh from that album wow and see sh is
good no matter when you get
him it tastes good yes um listener David
in Australia says that technically you
haven't left fans open for three years
because you appeared on schlom HUD Shear
volume one she volume two uh recently
you were on S Silverstein's k Kim so he
wants to know if this this means that
we're going to see more uh duets team
ups in the future for M and David H we
we we roll with the punches whatever
Hashem has in store that's what that's
the way we go so I don't know I don't I
don't we don't plan ahead whatever hasem
will bring my way I will do I mle to do
the right way well it's a perfect answer
listener of Roman Staten irand says he
wants to know if one of the songs that
didn't make the album you know but there
you have them recorded that you're going
to use in the future was a song from SCH
no no interesting okay good to know I'm
I'm just curious to ask you a question
as follows a lot of singers have said in
recent years that it's it's hard to find
good songs and that's why albums are
taking longer you just told me you
recorded 46 songs so I guess you don't
feel that that's the case no I I I hear
what they're saying it's true but um
it's like everything El to get the right
songs you heard the story I told you
before that I was in a total different
direction yes and suddenly songs started
coming in from M Klein and and Y berry
and I said wow this is phenomenal stuff
so so to end with you you barem got all
that material back from your Ellie
Dickman correct yeah so now we have what
three more albums worth of Mory and
David music we'll see we'll see we'll
see what happens and you won't have to
work so hard because you never know you
I may get better songs coming my way who
knows no M I've always wondered You
released an an album kind of like an MP3
collection called the plat I think it
was called Platinum Collection you
remember this was a few years ago um
that they were calling this the the MBD
quote unquote Vault now like we said
before you've always recorded a couple
of extra songs when when uh doing an
album is the the fans or the Jewish
music World At Large ever going to hear
some of those songs that didn't making
on those albums or are those forever
going to be in the morab and David Vault
I don't know it's very hard to call
these shots it's it's like just like he
was was in the vault and it popped out
interesting there are the songs that may
pop out as well that's good to know M
what would you say was the last song you
recorded on this album the last song I
actually recorded on this album M the
last song vocally vocally or
no to come to you to be completed you
know to be okay this is going to be this
song just came in it's amazing this will
be the last song making up the
13as really yeah let's talk about k a
second I I had I I I was already locked
on my said okay enough I have so many
songs enough and then suddenly he sent
me K whoa this is something completely
from left field and totally different
and and and it has special something
special in it and we recorded it yeah
it's funny because people always talk
about songs that are coming out whether
you know the lyrics have been used again
and again or their new lyrics so you
know that's been used before the the
song about your father obviously never
used before used
before even used before
never brand new so it's it's uh I guess
you don't have that same feeling of of
using words that were used before as
long as the Melody I guess is giving it
new meaning yes absolutely we uh is is
very very against doing songs that have
been recorded before and it's
interesting know people send me songs
all the time people who think they know
how their composers or whatever I I
haven't come across other than from
Ellie Klein I really haven't come across
song that I can say yeah this is really
good but people send all the time I get
emails from from right and from left one
of the main things that people don't
understand is that if you're going to do
a song that that has been out there and
it was a great song so if what are you
competing against you think you have a
better one unless you have something
that's really so much WoW better why I
have people send me
songs or many songs that were very
famous and great great songs so what are
you bringing to the table St biggy
bumbles so that there's probably two
answers to that you have some composers
that they stom look for Words once they
have a Melody so with that case I agree
with you but to a composer who probably
composed a song while they were at that
point let's say in daving or toim then
you know the melody came together with
the words it's a lot harder for them to
separate it and try to put other words
to it maybe should have
more so Kev one one of these most uh
most most interesting songs in the album
M let me ask you since Ellie Clan
anberry did the arrangement and Ellie
composed it was the demo close to the
final Arrangement or was it like night
and
day it was very very it was based on the
original Arrangement basically the the
the entire Arrangement is there but it
was it was technically en with with the
different sounds maybe and stuff like
that but but the arrangement is the same
that they' made now M since the last
time I spoke to you you uh you kind of
made a you're you're at least half a
year from what I hear in N what's that
like not yes not yet not yet not almost
half a year what is it no no no we
purchased an apartment which is not
ready yet right and as soon as it'll be
ready I we'll start to think of how long
we'll be there and how long will be here
but you know it's we not there yet okay
but but you getting there you're getting
closer closer to the dream one one of
the things that I discuss with listeners
I see listener m in Baltimore just asked
me when morab and David is gonna have a
concert in New York and I like to tell
this to listeners I'm sure you're going
to agree with me just because MBD isn't
doing a concert in the tri-state area or
in Toronto or Montreal doesn't mean that
you're not doing concerts you're you're
still going around the world performing
throughout the year at at Simas or yum
or or pesak programs correct yes B was
been a very busy year and I'm very
thankful and grateful to for that's been
beyond my my my imagination doy in
Germany just me a message says M hasn't
been here for a few years when he coming
back whenever he invites me that's
amazing morab and David with us via
telephone talking about the latest
album in stores now M I want to wish you
with new album I don't think you'll need
it from me but I'll wish it to you
anyways every okay I want to wish you a
g Zimmer thank you yeah thank you and uh
we are looking forward to hearing 43
more songs whenever you're ready okay
all the best and and uh love to all the
listeners take care bye
