and to operate the way they are on
behalf of our families and our teenagers
unite to heal.com be as generous as
possible Tippy landow is with us Tippy
landow is digital media manager for
unite to heal a pleasure to welcome you
to this amazing live stream thank you
nak it's great to be be
here what is it exactly that you do for
Amud what is a digital media manager um
so I work on the operational team which
basically means that I am not certified
to give anyone therapy no counseling
come to me for I can give you advice but
probably don't take it um but I do a lot
of the amudim online things so
everything that happens every program
that we create for example with the war
that's happening now we're offering free
services um for people that are affected
and so that needs to have besides for
what you see in the front you know we
have therapists and mental health
professionals and then clients as well
who come and need the services there has
to be a back end where we can connect
them we can vet them so that's sort of
where I stand behind the scenes for this
campaign specifically there's a lot of
elements that go into creating a website
the emails and so that's you know what I
do and everything you just described
forget for a moment to live stream
everything you just described on a daily
basis is just getting more and more I
mean I would assume there's more webinar
type activities and and you know and and
as you said you know people checking in
with the organization just trying to
find a way to get help from amudim
exclusively using the web I mean they're
they're not picking up a phone they're
literally going to the website and
seeing what they could find there that's
going to help them out yeah um I would
say that we moved I was with them mov in
parttime before Co and then when Co hit
and everything moved online that's when
I don't know that there was ever a
moment that I made the decision of I'm
going to move to this full-time it was
more like right now people need help and
I have want to do what I can to help
them um and that's how I transitioned
into
fulltime but there was we needed to
provide online AA meetings resources for
people with domestic violence anything
like that it became very quickly a
full-time job if not more and those
having mental health issues in Co just
that brought a lot of mental anxiety and
stress and God knows what else yeah and
so like as we're growing we have you
know a lot of partner programs projects
under amudim um so it's a lot and but I
really enjoy being able to take my
skills of graphic and web design and
being able to use it for something like
this how' you get to Amud to with how'
you find that about the organization I
actually started off as a client I grew
up in a home my father was pretty
severely injured when I was younger um
in he was burnt in a fire and it
was throughout his recovery they
prescribed him a lot of meds he got
addicted and so I grew up with an addict
as a father and a lot that comes along
with that and that was when I learned
how cruel perpetrators can be when they
see this innocent helpless
child who they're supposed to be caring
and protecting and they decide to take
that moment and take advantage of them
um and so I went through a couple years
of sexual abuse and I tried I didn't
have words to describe what I was going
through or to describe what I was
feeling and it got to a point where life
didn't feel worth living I didn't want
to die cuz my father had passed away and
I knew the effects of dealing with a
suicide I didn't want to put that on to
someone else but I also just didn't want
to live anymore and my sister told me
about this place called amudim and she
said you know call them get a case
manager and I was just at a place I had
nothing to lose and so I did that and
that call changed my life my case
manager sat with me and we discussed
where I'm at and she put words to things
that I didn't
know um and I got into therapy I ended
up going to a place for PTSD for a few
weeks and at some point as I was getting
more healthy it clicked in me that I
didn't know that those Services were
available and I needed them and they
changed and saved my life I wanted to be
a part of the
solution and so I took what I knew how
to do which was graphic design and web
design and I said you know if there's
anything that you need if I can come on
as a part-time
volunteer and that's where I started
with amudim and it was the greatest
decision that I've ever made was calling
amudim and then the next one was you
know joining on with the team I assume
I'm right that you've never discussed
this during this live stream before
right we never discussed this in
previous years no right and I'm sure
it's no secret to you that some of what
I'm hearing is quite devastating because
you don't always know what's going on uh
most people don't know you would say
most people don't most if not all people
don't know what's going on in general in
situations like this yeah um and it's
amazing coming off the conversation we
just had here I get to ask you a couple
of similar questions I guarantee you
that there is a a a girl from Brooklyn
right you're from Brooklyn right there's
a girl from Brooklyn who's watching
right now who either is going through a
situation or went through one in from
which they're suffering
PTSD yeah and they don't know that
there's somebody a phone call away and
you could literally look at that camera
and say there is somebody a phone call
away I I mean I would say that there is
someone a phone call away and that
you're not alone and that the things
that you're experiencing right now
you know it feels like when you're going
through something like that it feels
like there is no other pain that's this
bad there's no one else in the world who
can understand this feeling um
perpetrators
will you know they the way that they'll
create this mindset of like no one will
understand people will think that it's
your fault and I believed it I believed
every word of it and um there's a lot of
us who we make it through to the other
side
and there is help out there and pick up
the phone and call
because there's another s to it it's
hard work to get through and to recover
but there's this other side past it and
when you're there it's it's beautiful
and and the grass looks Greener and life
feels better and the ear feels fresher
it's just I woke up one day at some
point and I saw the world like I had
never seen it before someone once
described to me that uh someone of of
somewhat Authority who who knows these
issues said that the suicide is a
permanent solution to a temporary
problem and not to minimize that
temporary problem because that temporary
problem is with you your entire life I
get it but I'm sure you appreciate that
and again if someone out there God
forbid is even thinking in those terms
they need to hear from people like you
that they're is another side and there
is a road that brings you to where the
grass is greener again not forgetting
because that's impossible to completely
eliminate everything from your past but
certainly where you can experience life
and enjoy it yeah um I had a therapist
once that told me that you know it was
when I was still fearly new and I was
struggling a lot with suicidal ideations
and she said
that death is you know it can be an
option but it's once you do it once it's
permanent and you can't try anything
else so you owe it to yourself to try
other other things first because you
can't you can go to therapy and if it
doesn't work you can try something else
and you can try another route you can't
come back from that one and I think
until today you know what my father's
life would have been like had he if he
was still around if we would have a
relationship now if he would know me and
my family and my kids and you know how
different it could be if he was still
here and I hope on to that and I talk to
people who sometimes when they're going
through hard things and I say like it's
something you can't ever come back from
you do it once and and you you H you owe
it to yourself to try everything else
first we'll change our tone here for a
moment because SPL tells me that you're
the force behind run for amudim uh I'm
not familiar with run for amudim tell us
about it um so run for our moodam
started we had I had a classmate of mine
who un fortunately was involved in drug
addiction and when she got out of
rehab uh she relaps and that's a very
scary time for newly sober people
because they think that their body is
able to handle what they used to take
and um because they've detoxed they're
not able to and unfortunately that's
when she passed away and her sister
called and said that she was looking to
do something elas her if she put
together a team would we
coordinate an event in Miami and they
would go run the marathon and raise
money and this would be her Legacy oh
this is the January event this is the
January event yeah and
so her sister that she was talking about
was a classmate of mine and I asked to
be on board for this project and I've
worked with amudam for a while and I
know about we raise money obviously I'm
very I feel like this cause is extremely
important and and so I wanted to do it
from a fundraising aspect but the piece
that I didn't know that would be so
amazing was the experience for me and
for the
runners we've become almost like a
family where there's the WhatsApp chat
groups the weekend is incredible it's
this once in a-lifetime experience
except that you can get it once a year
everyone that's there they care about
mental health and so it's uplifting and
it's POS positive um and I'm I'm really
close I call them my Runners but I'm
really close to my Runners and it's just
a fantastic experience and I hope that
we continue to grow it well now it's h
what are we in we're in December is it
too late for people to sign
up we have a couple spots available nice
information on the website I bet
information on the website or send an
email we we close registration on the
website but we have just just a few
spots available fantastic all right
coming up we're going to be watching a
highlight reel of the last 34 hours now
you of course are very close to the
content that's being presented as the
digital media manager for amudim what
can you tell us about this highlight
reel in general all the great content
we've been
seeing I think that yummmy and gb's team
and everyone that has been every year I
think that we can't top some of the
segments and every year they do there
was this this year had a lot of last
minute additions and changes due to the
current events right but you know
hearing from a holocaust Survivor about
never again um I remember when we were
dealing with the emergency evacuation
flights having to put in the passport
information for someone that the date of
birth was in 1933 in
Germany and having to make sure that he
was sat next to one of our medic
you know and so just watching the
segments I think that it's been I'm I'm
glad that this gets to stay on forever
and that if anyone missed it they can go
back and watch it because it's important
for us to keep talking about it and to
keep seeing it and you know the music
and the entertainment is obviously
incredible so well Tippy landow thank

all your great work on behalf of amudim
