Rabbi Paysach Krohn - 24 Hours Before Yom Kippur

introduction everybody here about Hashem knows them very well without any further Ado we ask the rabbi please come out first of all thank you everybody for coming the night before Yom Kippur it's a husband who was very very sick and he needed a very serious operation and the doctor said I don't know if I could do this operation I'm afraid because the anesthetic is so strong that he could die on the table so he said to the woman you've got to go to a higher authority somebody that's bigger than me and if he says that I could do the operation then I will do it so she said okay fine and the next day she was thinking who is the highest Authority now of course he meant a greater doctor than him but in those days Rabbi Moshe Feinstein was still alive and her husband had learned 20 years earlier in the colel where Amisha Feinstein so she thought the highest Authority that's what the doctor said so she's gonna call Rob Moshe so the next day the doctor calls her and says did you call the higher authority says yeah I have an appointment with him tomorrow so he said oh who's the doctor she said well it's not a doctor it's a rabbi she he said you're joking right he said no I'm serious you said the highest Authority and mocha finds him to go dollar door he's the highest Authority he says I don't believe it you a doctor is going to tell me whether I should do the operation he says do you mind if I come I can't believe this she says yeah you could come he lives in the Lower East Side I have an appointment tomorrow with my father and you could come 10 o'clock sure enough he comes there and rub my shop interviews the doctor and he asks him all the questions and the doctor cannot get over how much ramushan knows about medicine and finally after he asked the doctors many many questions he asked the doctor many questions he says to the woman you know you told me that your husband learned here 20 years ago I don't remember him do you have a picture of him so she says yeah we were just married at that time I have a picture in my purse he says let me see the picture ramosa looks at the picture and suddenly he remembers who this guy is and he starts crying because he remembered him and this is a young man now with children who's on his Deathbed so when he started crying the doctor says to the mother now I understand why he could make such a decision any Rabbi who could cry about a student that he had 20 years ago God is going to give him the wisdom to make the right decision and you know what Ram Moshe said he should have the operation but he should be macabil something it should be makabel from now on when he makes up he says it out loud so that everybody could say Amen listen to this said how much is amen equal can anybody figure it out Allah 91 and the word malach Angel also equals 91. so how much you said when somebody makes Abraham people say amen they create and these will protect him and when he has other people say and he says amen again amen is equal malach 91. and so therefore that's what he did he was macabell the doctor did the operation and he lived to many years afterwards you know why I tell you this story because tonight I want to people told me on Tuesday you wouldn't believe a few religious guys told me they took their children to the funeral you know why so they should see King Charles and be able to make up teaches us that if you see a king a real king whether it's a Jewish king or not you're supposed to say Abraham Now in America we don't have a king so we don't understand the awesomeness of a monarch but he was supposed to make Hashem the king and I'll tell you what happened Friday before the funeral you wouldn't believe it Friday before the funeral King Charles announced that he wants the heads of all the religions to come to his office or wherever and he was going to speak with all the heads of all the religions and one of them was the chief Rabbi Rabbi Mervis now the problem was that they made the meeting for six o'clock and Shabbat began at 6 30 so Rabbi Mervis said to the person that cooked him I can't show up because I got to be home for Shabbat so when King Charles heard about it he didn't even call the rabbi he said we're changing the meeting just so that the rabbi should come and he made the meeting for 5 30. now listen to this 5 30 the king gets up all the heads of the religions are there all the cameras are there and the King begins to speak six o'clock he finishes he looks at his clock and he says rabbi it's time for you to go you got to go home for Shabbat imagine that the king of England so listen to what the rabbi said to him your honor it's not the protocol the law of England is when the king or the queen is in the room nobody's allowed to leave you cannot leave when the queen or the king is there you have to wait till they leave you are still here it's not proper it's not the protocol that I should leave and you know what occurred to me it's the same you're not allowed to leave a synagogue when the safetorah is open you can only leave the synagogue when the safety is closed because when the safety is open the protocol God is here right so you can't leave the shore so listen to this you know what King Charles said to him the Sabbath is more important I have a police escort waiting for you go you'll be home for Shabbat he got him home in seven minutes because all the streets were closed so what do we see that when we have covert for Shabbat and we have kavod for the king then oh even the goaim in the world they understand for your umeko that's what he here's the second way which I think is so important but I want to tell you a story that just happened in Israel two months ago zilberstein who Rabbi balance can tell you is the posseque adore he's the one that everybody asked the questions if they have any difficult questions they go to Rabbi Silverstein so he told this amazing story and he told a story like this what happened was that there is in the synagogue you gotta shut your cell phone because if you want to connect to Hashem you cannot connect to anybody else you have to disconnect from anybody else so when you're in the synagogue don't even put it on vibrant because when you put it on vibrate and you hear it's shaking you're going to want to see this somebody sent me a text an email uh WhatsApp or whatever so if you want to connect Hashem you have to disconnect to everybody else and then people will say to them yeah but this is a dangerous area the Arabs are around there he said okay we'll allow two guys to keep a phone on but otherwise everybody shut your phone when you come into the synagogue to pray and avraham he would leave the cell phone even outside the synagogue so now what happened was like this one night avraham and his wife are coming home from your shalayim they're coming at a from a wedding now as he's driving he turns to his wife and he says I think we're being followed she turns around she doesn't see anything behind the car she says I don't see anything he said the lights are closed behind the car behind us they're keeping the lights closed they don't want us to know that we're being followed so she says well why don't you just make a left turn off the highway and and see if they follow and that's what he does and they also make a left turn now they're very scared so he begins to speed up and they speed up and it goes down a hill and they go down the hill all of a sudden shots ring out and they're firing at avraham's car and the back window was smashed and he goes very quickly around the curve trying to avoid him and he says to his wife open the door just get out of the car roll down the hill I'm gonna do the same thing I'm gonna shut the lights so that they won't know where we are she takes out her cell phone and she calls the police however you call the police 9-1-1 in Israel and she says we're being followed we're being shot at by terrorists please come and save us he says where are you says I'm on the bottom of Route 90 where where you go up to Molly Ephraim so to dispatch on the police station said it's impossible she says what do you mean it's impossible there's no phone service down there on the bottom of that Hill there's no phone service this is a prank call and he hangs up on her imagine that and she's crying she says they don't believe us so he calls the head of the police and Malia Frank because he knows him he says this is Abraham I'm telling you we're being followed by terrorists please come and save us and the cop the head policeman in Malia Frank says where are you he says I'm in the bottom of the hill of Molly if I said there's no phone service how could you be calling he says please I'm begging you I see the sign that's what we are he says okay listen I know you I trust you I'm going to send down the cars he sends down a whole bunch of jeeps they come with the sirens and the cherries and the Arabs in the back car they see the cops are coming and they run away and he's saved a month later he made a sudas means a thank you party to thank Hashem that his life was saved listen to what the rabbi said and this is something that I think every single one of us has to make a Kabbalah the rabbi said you know what God showed us this guy avraham always said if you want to connect to God you got to disconnect from everybody else so God showed everybody in a place where everybody was disconnected because there was no phone service God connected to him because he always connected thashem and you know something I think that that's the Kabbalah we have to make from now at least that when we come into a synagogue to pray we shut the phones that's how you show melach that's how you show God as the king because I'm not this I'm not connected to anybody else I'm just connected to you Hashem to the homage through the sidor that's how we connect so two things if we want to be like those people in England who gave such kavod to the queen to the Monarch and they give it now to King Charles the least we could do is when we say and say the word melach let us stop and think and not only that when we come to a show we should the language and you can only take a little suitcase I was in Ukraine a couple years ago I was in the yeshivas I was in the day camps and the girls camps little kids wonderful holy children learning Torah and they all had to run away to countries Romania and Poland and Hungary and even Israel they didn't know the language and then we lost door so we've gone through difficult times now we'll never know why all this happened until Michelle comes then he will explain but we have to react if Hashem made this happen in our generation we have to try to improve to be better what could we do so tough important I have an end that unfortunately just passed away a few months ago she was my favorite and ever since I was a little boy her name was fagi fagi Ackerman she married my mother's brother and then unfortunately he passed away she remarried somebody in Detroit she was known as morafigi fakishani everybody loved him she was a short little petite woman but I had energy for 10 people every they could be safe until everybody would have to evacuate from the area and then the lady says the owner of the bookshelf she says look you guys could stay as long as you want but I'm just telling you soon the cops are going to come you're gonna have to evacuate she said I can't move I don't have shoes three minutes later a short fellow comes in as Friday guy comes in with a pair of shoes he says here take these shoes he said how do you know I need shoes who are you he says no I got a shoe store down the block and the lady called me and told me that there's a lady here in these shoes take these shoes you never ever have to come back to give them back to me face them they're yours keep them just run and be safe wherever you can go and that's what she did a while later she went to her son-in-law's house I sat there at the figure you got the shoes she said yeah I said you know could you show them to me I'd like to take a picture of them and she goes back to the bedroom she brings about the shoes and then listen to what she tells me she said I want you to know for the last 20 years any time something happens to me that I'm thinking Hashem why did you make this happen to me I go back to the bedroom I take off my shoes I put on my sabaro shoes I stand there and I look and I say thank you Hashem that you kept me alive and that's the second way that we can come close to Hashem to have to realize all the good that we have every single man woman and child in this holybridge matters tonight has so much good in this world but we don't think about it we're always thinking about what we don't have there are many many people here that are very happily married give a thank Hashem you know I'm not saying everybody but a lot of people right you ever thanked Hashem that you're he's got a word for everybody he loves the world one day he sees he's driving and he sees a woman as rushing with three kids coming to the bus and she's out of breath and he holds up his hand in the big window as if to say don't worry don't worry slow down I'll wait for you she gets on the bus with the three kids she's out of breath she says do you mind if I'll just put the kids in the back seat and I'll come and I'll pray he says no it's fine go ahead Joe go she puts the kids in the back seat she opens up her purse and she saw her wallet it's not there she left her wallet in the other purse she was rushing and she took the wrong purse and now she had no money to pay so embarrassed she comes up to the bus driver and she says sir please forgive me I forgot my wallet I was rushing I took the wrong purse my wallet is in the other if you want me to get off the bus the next stop I'll get off he says Nah don't worry there's a basketball that's all paid for she says a what a boss means like you know they do favors he says yeah it's paid for it you could you could go back she said I never heard of it he says no no on this bus is a boss she goes to the back of the bus with her kids and the guy who's sitting behind the driver says excuse me sir is there really a basket he says yeah he says who's the boss come on the driver says me he says what does that mean he says I live in that's the case when you're on the plane like I was four times at least in the last two weeks when you're traveling on a bus or you're driving on the highway when you're shopping if you do something that could be a little Hashem then you're disgracing not only you or the people of Roslyn you're disgracing all Jews because everybody knows we're Jewish no matter where you come from You Can't Hide And so therefore every one of us has a responsibility I'm going to tell you two stories now you will not believe what does it mean to be a walking talking one of the great women who passed away in the last couple years last two years was a great woman her name was rabbits and Sheila Feinstein she was the daughter-in-law of ram Moshe Feinstein and the wife of reproving Feinstein she never lost her life in a terrible car accident and I went to bimination because I knew her she was a wonderful person and I was sitting in Staten Island in the home of Rubin with all his children and I said to one of the daughters could you tell me a great story about your mother she says yeah I'll tell you listen to this she says here in Staten Island we have an elementary school from grade one to grade eight and one day one day one of their obey him one he woke up late third grade Grammy and he was rushing because he wanted to make sure the kids aren't going to Daven on time and he was driving too fast and he comes to a light and is a car a fancy car stopped at the light and he tried to slam on the brakes but he went into the car and of course it caused the big dent the lady comes out she's wearing a cross he saw it right away she's not Jewish he said man please please don't call the police don't call the insurance company it's my fault I realized I was driving too fast I'm a rabbi I don't have much money and I just wanted that the children in school should pray on time but just give me your name oh here's my name and number just get an estimate in a body shop and I will pay whatever the cost is fine they get into whole conversation and she said she'll do that a couple days later she calls him up and she gives him the estimate the estimate is very high it was a very fancy car so he says look man I just want to ask you a small favor if you don't want to do it I understand but I have a friend Mindy who's got a body shop here in Staten Island and he does beautiful work why don't you take your car to him and if you see the work that he does and you're satisfied maybe get an estimate from him I think it's going to be much less than the estimate you got would you mind doing that for me to get into a whole discussion she says okay I'll do it fine she goes to Mindy a couple days later Mendy calls this Rabbi he says you know I'm giving her back the car on Thursday and you know when I give the car I'd like to get paid you're going to be able to pay me he says yeah I'm gonna try you know I don't have much money but I'm gonna try Wednesday this lady calls the rabbi and says you know I'm picking up my car tomorrow you're going to be able to pay him he says you know I I wanted to call you I just I just want to ask you one more favor if you don't mind if you don't want to do it you know I'll understand but maybe maybe tomorrow when you pick up the car because you pay the whole bill and then over the next 12 months I'll pay you every month on the first I'll pay you and at the end of the year you'll have all your money you get into a whole discussion she says yeah I'll do it every month on the first he sends a check by the 12th month he calls her up and he says look you know I'm gonna make the 12 payment today but I want to do it in person I'd like to come to your house to talk to you and pay you is that okay she says yeah for sure he comes to her house and he says to her like this he says look man till the accident I didn't know you you didn't know me why were you so kind to me you didn't even know who I was you didn't call the police you didn't call the insurance company you went to my body shop you paid the bill in advance why'd you do all this listen to what she said she said I work in the public school system Sheila Feinstein is my principal as soon as I knew you were from her tribe I knew I could trust you imagine that as soon as he knew she was that he was Jewish and she he came from the same people as Sheila Feinstein he knew she knew that he could be trusted now listen to this this is absolutely incredible this story happened January 2nd 2020 and it's very important to know the date that it happened because you know what happened January 1st 2020 do you remember January 1st 2020 was the same as us right at MetLife Stadium 95 000 people celebrating that they learned shots freezing day right those of us who were there this happened the next morning there's a principle he told me the story himself his name is Benjamin Ginsburg he lives in Toms River and he had to give a speech in Brooklyn but he was running late so he was speeding on the Garden State Parkway weaving in and out of traffic and speeding but a cop stops them what's he gonna do he opens up the window listen to the first words that the cop says to them he says did you study your page today he says officer excuse me what'd you just say it says I was in giant Stadium yesterday don't you guys study a page did you study your page says officer 10 30 in the morning you know I I didn't get a chance to study it but I will it says you promise he's the officer says if you promise that you'll study your page I won't give you a summons he said yeah I promise and then listen to what the officer said to him he said you know yesterday a fellow officer said to me he wishes he could be Jewish I said then why do you want to be Jewish he said you ever see a nation like this 000 people celebrate what are they celebrating nobody won a lottery they're celebrating that they study the page and they understand it and not only that 95 000 people are singing and dancing and not one of them is drunk imagine that and then listen to this then he said another officer said to me they made a good mistake yesterday they called it giant Stadium it was a giant Stadium a stadium of giants oh that's what we could be all of us could be a stadium of giants this show could be a shore of Giants both men and women when you're on a plane you're in a grocery you're on the highway you're in the park with your child wherever you go they know you're Jewish we could all be a stadium of giants so I want to tell you two more things and The Last Story is literally life-changing listen to this before the last story this one is also like unbelievable this story happened a couple years ago in energy Israel what happened was there was a family that lived in hernof in your shalayim father mother and seven kids modest family they're not much money but they're very close to each other the whole family and every year they go on vacation together and every year the parents sit down with the kids they give them an itinerary itinerary means like a list of where they're going to be going and they tell the kids look this is where we're going don't ask that we should go other places because this is what we can afford this year they said this year we're going to go to Terraria we're going to go Jeeping in Terraria we'll go on a bus ride on a boat ride in generic and don't forget no restaurants no eateries mommy's bringing all the food and all the snacks because it's very expensive especially in the summer all the restaurants and the eateries okay and they give the kids some spending money and they go the first day the first day they're coming up towards Netanya those of you who are known that Tanya's on the water it's gorgeous they get out of the car to take their food they go to a picnic table and they're all eating lunch when they finish the Abba says the father says okay everybody back in the car everybody starts going to the car except zevi the eight-year-old he said Debbie how come you're not going to the car he said Dad I need the bathroom we're going up to three it's a long trip I need the lavatory the father's thinking like this this is the picnic tables here there's no bathroom over there he takes a look he sees a block away he's a kosher restaurant and he knows that no restaurant likes when you just go in and use the facilities and you're not buying anything what's he got to do what can he do he's got no choice they got a long trip you know going up north he goes into the restaurant the waitress is at the door and she says to him can I help you he says look I'm so sorry we're not here to buy anything we're going up to Terraria my little boy has to use the bathroom do you mind he'll make it fast look could you let him use the bathroom she looks around the whole restaurant she says okay make it quick fine little boy does what he has to do he's coming out the father meets him in the middle of the restaurant they're just about outside the restaurant they're still inside and Rafi the Israeli way to sees him and he explodes he says what are you guys doing here who gave you permission to come in here all your religious Jews you're all the same you take advantage you don't buy anything or use the facilities and this father's thinking like what's he gonna tell this guy he says who told you you could come in he'll give you permission father seemed that the waitress he's on the side there by the wall and she's listening and he knows that he says she let him in that crazy waiter is gonna fly around so he says listen what he thinks I'm on the spot he says sir you got it all wrong so what do you mean no we're all coming in here to eat well who's coming in my wife and we got seven kids set up the tables we said oh my goodness I'm so sorry I didn't realize I thought you just brought your son in there I didn't don't be sorry just set up the tables and he tells his son go tell Emma to come in with all the kids she can't believe it they never went into a restaurant the kids can't believe it they sit down at the table they never sell food like this they never saw a menu like this that was a dishes like amazing and all these kids are eating finally when they finish they notice that outside the kitchen there's a lot of activity there's six waiters and every one of them's got ice cream in his left hand and cake and sparklers in the right hand and they're all marching to the table where these kids are sitting so the father stands up and says excuse me wait a second there's a mistake here we didn't order dessert so the owner of the restaurant comes to the table says sir let me tell you something see when you guys sat down to eat that waitress came into the kitchen and she was crying and we said to her what are you crying about she said I just saw somebody do something that nobody ever did for me these people they're spending a fortune just ice not gonna buy anything but when they saw I was gonna get in trouble he had all his kids come and he's spending all the money on all that food just so that I wouldn't get in trouble and the owner of the restaurant said well we heard that we decided the special people we got to do something special that's why we gave me a dessert fight the kids finish a dessert and the father says okay can I have a bill says to the waiter the waiter brings him the bill and on the bill it says if you ever come here again 50 off he said yeah but what about today I want to pay for today so the owner listen to this the owner comes over to the father and he says we have a policy in this restaurant we only charge people we don't charge malachim we don't judge angels and you know something we can all be angels we could all be Giants and we could all be angels we have to take these days seriously Arya Shaw Milo era this is the time for change this is the time we have to be a player we have to realize the melach we have to realize we are addicted to our cell phones I'm not telling anybody not to have a cell phone we can't exist without the phones but when you come to a synagogue and you're praying or the rabbis giving you sure or when you're eating with your children shut the phone like that man said if you want to connect Hashem you got to disconnect from everybody else that's the Kabbalah that we have to make you got to be a player not a fan you gotta have a karate you have to be that forsaken a family my Lord but and we have to be a person that's a walking talking to the Mayan listen to this story we're going to close with this but this is a life changer a number of years ago on Lakewood they announced that two days before the holiday of pesach all the elementary schools are going to be closed so that the rebbies could stay home and help the mothers before yantev it's a very very busy time so now it's two days before the holiday and the fifth grade Webby comes into the kitchen and he says to his wife how can I help you what can I do for you she says you want to know really he says yeah I'll do whatever you say she says you know we got six kids if you could take them on an outing for four hours get all the kids out of the house I'll be able to cook and bake and clean that'll be the best he's thinking like what is he gonna do for four hours where's he gonna go he's thinking then he comes up with an idea he decides to go to Newark Airport it takes an hour to get from Lakewood to Newark Airport and he's gonna take the kids on the air train I don't know if you know what an air train is but many airports today have trains and you go from one terminal to the other I was just in Atlanta that's the same thing except in Atlanta that's on the ground but in Newark it's overground you want to go so everybody goes you know from one terminal to the other but that air train is so Sleek it goes near the runway so you can see planes taking off and you see planes landing and it goes over the Jersey Turnpike oh it's exciting the kids were on the airtron with their father for two hours after two hours they're having a great time a pilot walks on very spiffy looking guy you know all these Pilots are nice and trim with a cap you know and a uniform and everything and yeah they're all wonderful guys so it goes over to one of the kids he says hey where you guys flying today you know what to say look at the father and the father says sir actually we're flying nowhere he says nowhere he says you see we have a Jewish holiday and my wife asked me if I could take the kids out so she could bake and cook and clean and we're just having a great time you know with each other on this air train and the pilot got very very serious and he said young man I want to tell you something he said I've been a pilot for 25 years there is not a major airport in the world that I haven't landed in two years ago I got a text from my son and he wrote me dad you're always so busy you never had the decency to come to my birthday parties you didn't even have the decency to come to my graduation and last week the birthday of my first son your first grandson you didn't even come to that birthday party do me a favor take my number out of your contacts foreign and then he said two weeks later I got the same text from my daughter he said young man I have flown everywhere but gone nowhere you told me that you're flying nowhere but with your kids you're going everywhere and that's the lesson that we have to remember right over here the Young Generation that's everywhere all of us that have children and grandchildren more than anything else you have to be able to spend time with them to learn with them to guide them to be a role model for them that's the everywhere in Clague Israel we're all busy especially in New York we have so much in our minds but then we're flying everywhere and going nowhere you want to go someplace it's only look at this synagogue old people young people middle-aged people everybody together that's what Claudia sells all about Hashem should bless every single one of us that we should be able to have this year of and do it with our children and grandchildren and
