okay I think we're just gonna start so actually a little bit Chavez night I wanted to say a little bit more about my father and what he taught me and his vision but ashame had the different plans so I just feel that it's appropriate you know just very quickly to remind this concept why didn't my father foundati Toa I mean it's you know for me to walk out to walk into this conference it's I don't many and really incredible where my father really got to it it's it's unbelievable and I think that's the main reason to stop and think what happened how did he build this place what what made him so passionate about it and for me something just to learn about it so this is what them I'm gonna start off with sharings I started to say my father grew up in the Lower East Side Manhattan you know nice eat to see people was like wow I'm Jewish you know my grandfather this is what I done not talking about religious Jewish people was proud about being Jewish and it was very it was very interesting for him I never asked him specifically what was so interesting for him about that but I could just assume it you know is growing up as a ffb that so to speak you know everything and you see so on that basically doesn't know much but he's proud about being Jewish it's a question you know what makes you so proud so used to ask people he said what makes you so proud about being Jewish and that was the time they realized that people love Judaism they want the kid to be Jewish but they don't know enough about it and his calculation was very simple one generation down two generations down these people is going to have a very hard time to maintain the Judaism to maintain the kids of not intermarrying and death when he saw that I'm not giving those story but when he saw that he says I have to do something about it I have to do something about it now it's a very big question what do you do what do you do so I divided the - one thing is a very technical thing also something a lot to learn about they want the children to be Jewish and he asks him what's so special about being Jewish like what makes you so proud and yet it doesn't get no answer and you would literally try his class as he would start off with this question and he says 2,000 years we survived an exile 2,000 years what gave the Jewish people the power to all done why don't we just disappear why didn't we just disseminate why didn't the Jewish people just get lost I mean if if you think about it I mean today we have a country we have we have America we have the press we have judges a democracy and everything 2,000 years this whole thing was he was a Jew they could hit to kill you on the street because you're a Jew okay how did the Jewish people stay alive and his understanding was is that we have the wisdom for life the toilets Haim we have the wisdom for life meaning we got up in the morning we knew what are we living for we know why God put us in this world we knew what does it mean to love each other what does it mean to respect each other we know what is mean free will we understand ourselves and when we understand ourselves no one can stop us I don't know if it's the right comparison but I say you know knowledge not of knowledge and our job is to give them and that's you know that that's a very fact the very beginning when people used to come into a Torah what would my father learn with them okay I'm sure that there's many different ways there's many different ideas some people say open or Gomorrah and learn with it they mentioned yesterday there's different ways my father would do you would open life you have a life let's try to understand what's going on what are you living for you want to be happy or rich you would literally use these words with people wanna be happier rich let's go let's learn about it it's yours the guy says I'm an atheist he says okay great you're Nathan could be a happy atheist let's learn how to be happy and it would literally show them how beautiful the Torah is an homage it's relevant for day life and that would attach them and that's what I call putting the Torah in front of them and showing them how beautiful it is because wouldn't they pick it up greatness of my father was out simple he was okay not so complicated and not you know different proves and it's written someplace and it's it's like down-to-earth life look about it look in your life and you could see how great you are and our greatest shame is in your life so the first thing about being intellectual my father my father used to say is lead with your mind and don't lead with your stomach don't feel your way see your way okay so you look at anything it's a simple for sure you know why not if you can't just you know you go into a business you go into a business and someone tells you you know I have a great business to give you I have a great opportunity to give you and you say okay let me feel it it feels good you don't even look into it everybody understands you have to check it out right but the idea is that so many times in life we could find ourselves leading with our feelings and not leading with our minds to take it a little bit extreme it's really extreme but then we could see it too more and more in our lives is that we would give this example you know this guy comes off his father to the doctor and his father is like 65 very strong very healthy very athletic he's just coming for a regular checkup he went into the doctor he's sitting outside in the waiting room and ten minutes later the doctor comes out and he says I'm sorry to inform you your father passed away what's the first thing that he's gonna say no way right he just was here well what's those words who says those words he just was here like is it an insurance you know policy just was here so it's gonna be here forever something drives us and especially in the moments of pressure our feelings comes out first so they say okay he just was here but let me check now I see that it's not here it comes that so then the mind starts working but there is always a process it's always a process that the feelings will try to push you and then your mind will come in and make sense out of it so it's a process the ideas used to always remind us lead with your mind don't lead with your stomach because your stomach is gonna take you to places someone gets you upset you see first of all you react from your stomach you don't really think about it then you say what did I just do with it what did I what just happened here like you find yourself in places that you you don't you don't father he's used to remind us you have to have definitions and one of the nicest stories that I love about the that I heard from my father is that someone came into his office one day okay a student and says rabbi he says I'm touring Israel I'm already four three weeks touring Israel I came to Israel because they said it's the Holy Land ever heard the Israel is the Holy Land he says I came to Israel he said it's the Holy Land he says I'm touring Israel from right to left from top to bottom any place there was you know a mark of you know something religious something holy I went in he says rabbi there's nothing holy about this country there's nothing holy in this place since well what's the story you guys say the Holy Land or Holy Land what what's this Holy Land what's the story someone what he's trying to to get to so it's definitions and I want to share with you a few ideas of what we mean definitions boo the beginning is I my father said that when he was a little kid they used to just a question where are you standing and less you have definitions if you have definitions you have a way to measure it how do we know if this guy is a knee roll or is off his mind or is to do better how do we know is it just our feelings if it's our feelings then for sure we're gonna find ourselves very confused especially when we're trying to measure ourselves so I want to offer you the definition of an ero of let's call him medium you know gray and a complete idiot okay I'll offer you an and see how it could match so let's take a different case note that your guy goes on the street and he sees a house gone on fire and he hears a child in the house and the child is screaming help help help and he looks on the door since there is smoke please his still could make it he puts on something on his on his face and he breaks into the house and he rescues this kid now what is he why is in Europe okay let's not lead without feelings let's lead with our minds why is in Europe Caesar Nero because two things first of all it took a reasonable risk okay because I say he's still to get in there is smoke it's dangerous it's not you know something that completely off you took a guy goes on the street here's a kid screaming help help help he sees he looks on the dorm full of flames he literally can't walk in without getting hurt okay but the kid is screaming the emotion that and he breaks into the house he hardly makes it out with the child he's all burnt the kid is burned and he's out there with the child what is he the world would call him a very big hero okay the world would call him a very big hero he saved the child the word is he is not normal he's not normal why again not because the feelings the feelings who saved the life he saved the kid the kid was crying and nobody couldn't help him and he saved them no not because the feeling because the mind what did he do he took a not visible reasonable risk but still there was a worthwhile purpose that's what we call not normal that's the medium now let's imagine the same story the guy goes on the street and he sees the house is on fire and it's like you almost can't walk into the house and he breaks in and he after two minutes comes out he's all hurt and it's barely alive and people ask him what did you do in there he says I love seeing how the beams fall down in the fire okay what is he this guy he's a
