and I'm beginning with this story cuz somebody just sent it to me literally ten minutes ago and I really appreciated the story it meant so much so I want to begin with this story dear kindle ah again seven forty seven so a friend of mine rabbi blooming rabbi Zalman blooming sent me this story just literally a few minutes ago and I wonder I want to read it to you as you know Jews in the Soviet Union in Russia were stuck behind the Iron Curtain for decades once the Communists took over Russia they did not allow anybody to leave and it was very hard to come in and get out very few people can leave that crazy country where Judaism was uprooted and where every vestige of religion was decimated and destroyed it was under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev the leader of the Soviet Union when the iron curtain opened up you're too young to remember but some of us remember 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell there was a big wall in Berlin in Germany dividing West Germany from East Germany East Germany was under the Communists and West Germany was democratic and there was freedom there and enjoy the symbol of that day when the Berlin Wall fell was unforgettable it represented a new era that came into the world and during that year 1989 1990 communism fell the doors of the Soviet Union opened and hundreds of thousands ultimately millions of Jews and non-jews left the Soviet Union many of them made a yacht to the Holy Land territory so many of them came to America and to other countries many of them came to Europe a big community actually went to Germany more than a million Jews came to Eretz Israel more than 1 million Jews and it was a big question about the Jewish identity of many of them remember that for 70 years they weren't allowed to be Jewish there were no Jewish schools there were very very few shalls' and only older people would go because there were spies everywhere if you would go you they were informed upon you you could lose your job be sent to Siberia it was it was a living purgatory so in terms of marriage who's Jewish who's not Jewish it became a problem and when the Jews were coming tired too strong in 1990 1991 1992 this was a very difficult task to figure out who's Jewish there was a Jew he was 42 years old he came in to the rabbinic court of tel-aviv in the Holy Land and he wanted authentification today it's authenticating proving that he's a were lots and lots of smokers she used to smoke every day two packs of cigarettes at night she would take one cigarette and place it quietly under her bed she had a box a treasure chest which she used to put every night one cigarette that she left over she didn't smoke she put it in that box in excess she did this every single night of the year after Purim she would gather 365 cigarettes because every night she put away one how many days are there in the year 365 so each year ultimately she compiled in that box 365 cigarettes it was after Purim she would collect the 365 cigarettes and she
