When someone watches something on a
video, they retain 95% of that
information. That number drops
drastically to only 10%.
The key is how you communicate. Over the
next few minutes, my team will share
with you some of our communication tips
that we use in video that you too could
use in your everyday life.
Biggest difference in communication and
how message lands is your energy. Make
sure you have the right energy. Start
off with a big smile. Everyone remembers
how you make them feel and how you feel.
That's the most important tip. It works
every single time. I have people that
they're so nervous. They come in. I tell
them, "Go to another room. Do 20 jumping
jacks. Maybe if you want, even give a
nice loud scream. You'll come back.
You're going to be in amazing energy."
My grandfather was a psychologist, an
educator, and a public servant.
And he used to start off many of his
speeches by saying, "My job is to speak,
and your job is to listen. But if you
finish your job before I finish mine,
please let me know."
Whenever we present, we have a lot of
information that we want to give over.
What I've noticed in video is sometimes
the best way to achieve that is not the
direct route of just reading off the
technical information. It's finding a
way to bring it from a side angle. Find
that story, that muscle, that joke.
That's going to accomplish two things.
It's going to help engage the listener
throughout.
>> And it's going to help them retain the
message afterwards.
When we make videos, we spend a lot of
time on the hook. Those first few
seconds of the video that pull you in
and also set the tone for the whole
video. On social media, that means
picking thumbnails or titles that are
eye-catching but still are going to stay
true to what you're about to watch. And
practically, the same thing is true in
real life. How does your look, your
energy, your approach communicate to the
other person? Your hook will do most of
the heavy lifting for the rest of the
interaction.
Fun fact, between 2015 and 2022, cable
news ratings absolutely cratered while
everyday creators on social media took
over the news space because it simply
felt real.
Now, in 2025, we're all flooded with the
perfect AI emails, perfect replies,
perfect everything. And honestly,
it's kind of draining. So, here's my
advice to you. Be real.
Be yourself. That's what people like.
That's what people trust. And that's
what people remember.
For over 10 years, we've mastered the
art of communicating through video. Yet,
those very same principles apply to
every interaction, making you more
effective and impactful.
