the prepare I want to share with you
another item from the safer Darkei
Eliyahu.
I have to say I haven't opened up the
safer I don't think in 27 years.
I even forgot I had it.
>> [clears throat]
>> I have to say I wasn't even sure who
wrote this safer. I got it in Eretz
Yisrael when I was in Eretz Yisrael.
And I vaguely remember that the Rosh
Yeshiva of the Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yaakov
Luban
recommended that we get the safer Darkei
Eliyahu. Anyway,
uh Rabbi Luban came out recently with a
new safer called Shma Beni. Rabbi Luban
is Rosh Yeshiva now of used to be the
Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in
Yerushalayim. Now he's Rosh Yeshiva in
North Miami Beach.
And
Rabbi Luban's first volume Shma Beni, by
the way he's the author of Chidushei
Halev,
which are the Shmuzin of
Hagoen Rabbi Alter Chanoch Henoch
Leibowitz. He also wrote a safer Shma
Beni Beni of different Tzadikim that he
was close with when he lived in Eretz
Yisrael.
Among them are Rabbi Dov Katz, the
author of Tnoei Hamussar,
Rabbi Yosef Kahaneman, the father of the
current Rosh Yeshiva of Chevron, Rabbi
Dovid Kahaneman, Rabbi Shachne Zohn,
the father of
Rabbi Elchanan Zohn, the head of the
Chevra Kadisha in America.
Other Tzadikim included
Rabbi Shiya Plachinsky.
Other Tzadikim included Rabbi Bentzion
Brook.
Also,
um
with Meir Chadash
and with Mordechai Zuckerman.
When I was learning in Eretz Yisrael, I
had this zechus to meet some of these
tzaddikim.
I believe I met Rav Shiya Plachinsky.
I met Rav Yosef Chaim. I heard a shiur
from him before Rosh Hashanah.
I met Rav Mordechai Zuckerman and he
gave me two brachos.
He was the last talmid of the of the
Chofetz Chaim.
And now in volume two, Rabbi Luban put
out the hanhagos and hadrachos of Rav
Dovid Halevi Avrahami.
I
I have to admit, I never heard of him.
And then the here's the bombshell.
It says he wrote the sefer Binyan Olam.
Did you ever see the sefer Binyan Olam?
Binyan the sefer Binyan Olam is a
classic mussar sefer on
Talmud Torah. It was the sefer on
hasmadah. It was considered
a very a sefer you have to handle with
care.
Ha- because it talks about how you have
to spend every moment of life learning
Torah.
So, question is is this appropriate for
a bachurim?
But it was written anonymously and
nobody knew who wrote it.
And now Rabbi Luban, one of my rabbaim,
put out a sefer of hanhagos of Rav Dovid
Halevi Avrahami, the author of Binyan
Olam. Oh, they don't even I never knew
who wrote the Binyan Olam.
So, I got the sefer
and I was I was startled that not only
is the sefer
the hanhagos of Rav Dovid Avrahami
there's almost no mention here about
limud haTorah in the whole sefer.
Probably that was left for Binyan Olam.
Rabbi Luban writes like this.
That in the year 1937
the tzaddik Rabbi Yehuda Cohen
who's the author of this sefer.
Okay? In 1937, Rebbe Yehuda Cohen was 18
years old, and he was sitting and
learning in the base knesses Zaharei
Chama in Yerushalayim.
In that base knesses sat the famed Sadiq
Rebbe Shmuel HaLevi Halperin.
Shmuel HaLevi Halperin wrote Even
HaMelech.
He wrote Olas Tamid on Tefillah.
We mentioned him a few times. He also
wrote a sefer.
Can you bring me the
the Haggadah?
Wash your hands. [applause] Do Libun
Chal, yeah?
Rebbe Shmuel HaLevi Halperin has a sefer
on 160 mitzvahs for me kind of say that.
Yeah, we once mentioned that.
And Rebbe Shmuel HaLevi Halperin was 23,
Rebbe Yehuda Cohen was 18, and one day
Rebbe Shmuel HaLevi Halperin comes over
to Rebbe Yehuda Cohen, and he says,
"I like you."
Ata motzei chein be'einai. You find
favor in my eyes.
I want I I want you to be my friend.
Do you ever do that to somebody?
Go over them. You find favor in my eyes.
I like you.
I want you to be my friend, and together
we're going to be oisek in Torah and
Yiras Shamayim.
Rebbe Yehuda Cohen said,
"Yes."
He responded in the affirmative. And for
40 years, these two tzaddikim learned
together mussar.
Let's fast forward from 1937 to 1992.
HaRav Binyamin Luban
met Rebbe Yehuda Cohen,
and he said, "Could you learn with me?"
And they started to learn once a week,
and they learned sefer Derech Emet,
which was written by Rebbe Yehuda Cohen.
Which Rebbe Yehuda Cohen wrote? And they
also learned many of some of Shmuel
HaLevi Halperin.
Then Rebbe Yehuda Cohen passed away in
1995.
So, it says that Rebbe Luban went to the
the house of the Almana of Mordechai
Hamener.
I don't know who Reb Mordechai Hamener
is.
I think it must be a mistake, Reb Shmuel
Hamener.
And Reb Luban said, "Who are the
talmidim of your husband?"
And she said, "Reb Dovid Avrohomi is a
student of my husband. He wrote Binyan
Olam."
So now now we know how the cat is out of
the bag. The Almana of Reb Shmuel
Hamener
said that Reb Dovid Avrohomi is a
student of Reb Shmuel Hamener, and he's
the one who wrote Binyan Olam. And it
says over here, in that in those times
um people didn't know who the author
was. I have to say, I didn't know who
the author was.
So Reb Luban said he used he would go
with his friend Reb Dovid Chait,
and they would learn with Reb Dovid
Avrohomi, who at the time was a marbitz
Torah in France.
Now they lived in Yerushalayim, so they
could only learn with him bein hazmanim,
when they came home.
And they learned once a week.
Then Reb Luban became the Rosh Yeshiva
in Florida.
Okay? This is like the Novardok Slobodka
shita, that more important than living
in Eretz Yisrael and learning in Eretz
Yisrael is hatzatzas Torah. So both of
them
it's not only Slobodka, Novardok also.
And it's poshut, hatzatzas Torah has
more value than yeshiva in Eretz
Yisrael. So they both held that Reb
Dovid Avrohomi was a marbitz Torah in
France. Reb Luban, can you imagine,
moved from Yerushalayim to Miami Beach.
Anyway.
And they continued to learn on the
telephone.
How often? Every single day.
>> [snorts]
>> For how long?
About an hour.
Okay? So Reb Luban, living in Miami,
North Miami, is learning with the author
of Binyan Olam
an hour a day for almost 2 years until
he passed away on Tisha B'Av and Nisan
Tavshini Ayan Dalet.
What they learned Even Shlema, then they
learned Swarm of Emunah, and then they
learned Pasa Pasa Shavuah. And Reb Dovid
Avrohomi gave over Khidusim from Rebbi
Kheskel Levenstein and Reb Shmuel
Hominer.
So now you know Darkei Eliyahu
was also a talmid of Reb Shmuel Hominer.
So Darkei Eliyahu is a talmid of Reb
Shmuel Hominer. Reb Dovid Halevi
Avrohomi was a talmid of Reb Shmuel
Hominer.
Which is a pella otzum.
You ready for this pella? The author of
the Sefer Binyan Olam, which is the
Sefer of of um Hasmoda
Liman HaTorah Lishmah
left Eretz Yisrael to be marbitz Torah
cuz that's even greater.
Anyway, here we go.
I want to learn with you. We covered the
Yom Tov of Shavuos
perek
yud of Darkei Eliyahu from the tzaddik
Rebbi Yehuda Kahan who's a talmid of Reb
Shmuel Hominer.
The first thing he quotes
a Sefer of Chassidus
says like this, Kosav BaSefer Chinuch
Bais Yehuda perek lamed dalet
Shishama miRebbi HaKhozeh miLublin.
That really
it's everyone's responsibility to give
rebuke to other Jews.
So really you should go out today after
the shiur, you should go to Central
Avenue
and rebuke people the whole day.
Should ask people what time they came to
shul in the morning.
Should ask them if they brought their
phone with them.
You should rebuke. That's your aveira of
hochiach tochiach. The only thing is not
everyone's able to do that.
Key to what when he's supposed to learn?
Ki Torah Tziyon tetzei.
But
the the Khozeh miLublin said Bekasha
Yoshe v'lo yimei Torah Lishmah b'shem
kol
>> On behalf of the Jewish people who
You cause people in throughout the world
to do chuvah and you fulfill the midst
of rebuke.
So if you're not able to go to Central
Avenue, you should stand outside of my
Shalom.
And as people are going in, you should
rebuke them as they're entering and as
they're leaving. First of all, anyone's
leaving early.
Should tell you say I don't get it.
Imagine if at a Yankee game in the like
let's say it's 9-2 Yankees in the bottom
of the ninth with one out. Imagine if
you had a guy who starts, you know,
taking off his his cleats and his socks.
Can't take off the uniform before it's
over.
You can't leave before you can't you
can't start, you know, undressing before
it's over.
Anyway, but if you're not able to do
that, you should learn the shame
And by doing that, it will cause Jews to
do chuvah.
And you're
the midst of chuvah.
This is the
Yeah, yeah. But the you're actually it's
considered you're rebuking by the in the
meaning of the meaning of the meaning of
the meaning of the meaning of the
meaning of
people know the first part cuz it's a
song. How does it go you do?
Who wrote it? Who wrote the
Maybe Shapiro.
Think Shapiro wrote it. I
don't know what you're saying. Okay,
know what you're saying. Okay, anyway.
That even one individual who's
called of chuvah in the hearts of the
Jewish people. I don't know what you're
saying. Okay, anyway. It says I don't
know what you're saying. Okay, anyway.
It says I don't know what you're saying.
Okay, anyway. It says I don't know what
you're saying. Okay, anyway. It says I
don't know what you're saying. Ashrei
Adam ois loy bach. Fortunate is someone
who the strength of Torah is in him. You
know what he his contribution is?
Mesilos bilvavom. He causes pathways to
open in the hearts of the Jewish people.
Next.
The what the Chazon Ish writes. Chazon
Ish wrote in his Kovetz Michtavim,
the same way the various limbs of a
person are subdivided according to their
activities. The eye sees, the ear hears,
the hands are busy. So too, the Jewish
nation as a whole is like one body.
But we have different personalities.
Everyone has their role.
If Klal Yisrael would be Amel baTorah
la'amitasah,
it would cause many It would save many
children.
So let's say you want to save children
from going off the derech,
on a Sunday afternoon you could come to
shul and you could learn for 20 minutes.
It will also save many people
from sin. It will cause many people
not to have thoughts of aveira. It will
save many people from kefira.
Why?
Through the outpouring of kedusha that
emanates from your learning.
If you learn Torah lishma,
it affects
your neighborhood. It affects the city.
It affects the world. B'hish- stopich
ruach taharah ba'olam. It causes Hashem
to pour down an outpouring of
purification on the world. U'visvivaso
ba'al ha- ba'al Torah amiti,
in the surrounding area of the in the
vicinity of a real
master of Torah,
hadavar nikar l'eineinu hashpa'ah
merubah al anashim harbeh. It's
recognizable.
You could tell. You could see it. The
influence on many people. In other
words, in the immediate vicinity of a
Baal Torah, his influence is felt.
Masha kol hishtadlus ma'asis lo
tasigena, that with every effort of
teaching or
or overt influence, it will not achieve
his
>> [clears throat]
>> m'meila influence will be successful at.
Something is given over, something is
transmitted
through limud Torah lishmah.
It influences people in the immediate
surrounding,
even more the Chazon Ish says,
than than kol hishtadlus ma'asis lo
tasigena. He says
rishumin al harachokim she'ein ayin
hora'ah. It actually influences people
at a distance. So, let's say somebody is
learning Torah in New York, it could
affect people in New Jersey, in
Pennsylvania.
The eye can't see that because it's it's
very subtle.
In the immediate surrounding, it's
recognized, the eye could see it. At a
further distance, it makes a roshem,
even though you can't necessarily see
it.
Then he says,
he brings from the Sefer Chareidim.
Who wrote the Sefer Chareidim?
Rebbe Eliyahu Askari, the author of
Yedei Nefesh of Arachamim. He says as
follows, "Kol Yisrael
etzem echad k'de'amar shiv'im nefesh."
Since all of Klal Yisrael is one entity,
b'hetz b'hat stick adam nafsho,
when someone makes his soul
righteous, the kol Yisrael ya'aseh
roshem.
It affects all of Klal Yisrael.
When you elevate yourself, you elevate
all of Israel.
So here it is, you're sitting in a
corner. Nobody even knows you're there.
You're elevating yourself.
Arouse yourself with great Havana to
repent.
And have in mind
that all of Israel should do along with
you.
You hear what the says? You should
arouse yourself. When you say have you
know
arouse yourself to do with her
and thereby have in mind that with you
all of
Israel should do with her.
>> [snorts]
>> That's why it says you should with
her with her head.
And then she was
killed him the volume the shoe volume
rather. Why? Start off you do with her.
Your personal will affect all of Israel.
And therefore it concludes you should
have a bee me menu.
My wrath
has been reverted from you and explained
explain even if some one person does
with her has
wrath will be
removed
from all of Israel because you've caused
them all to have her.
So this these are some of the I the
power
of
one's personal with her.
personal
I'm a spotter personal with her the
reverberations
to your surroundings and to the whole
world.
This is on the docket
a tournament of the small hammer.
And like we mentioned and think brought
him in the Haggadah about the number of
mitzvahs you could be mikayem
leil seder.
Let's see if we can get the official
count
before we
I recently came across a contest called
mitzvahs belayla seder in by Hamena
which he compiled
mitzvahs that you're mikayem
the night of the seder.
Have a wonderful Rosh Chodesh Sivan.
Bayom
