Are you ever afraid? Are you ever afraid
of what the future holds and you're
literally nervous and waiting for the
next shoe to drop?
I think your fear makes no sense because
of what we capture
in Shlishi of Parshat Devarim. See, in
Shlishi, Moshe Rabbenu starts to recap
the story of the Meraglim, how this much
the Jewish people came to Moshe Rabbenu
and said, "We want to send spies." And
Moshe said, "Okay, if that's what you
want, we'll send spies to Israel." And
the spies come back with an evil report
and they talk about all the negatives of
Eretz Yisrael and the Jewish people
don't want to go in. And then Moshe
Rabbenu comments, which is a comment
that I think all of us need to
internalize, not just for the people in
the desert, but in our life.
He says, "Uva'u midbar asher itam. In
this desert that you saw, that Hashem
carried you kasher yisa ish beno, that
like Hashem carried you like a father
carries his child, and you still don't
trust him? He took gave you light at
night and a cloud during the day and you
still don't trust what he's going to
do?"
Here's my question to you. If you have
any fear, something you're really
nervous about, hasn't Hashem taken care
of you till now? Hasn't he been here for
you till now?
You know what doesn't make sense about
us? It's so often we have so much
blessing in our life and we're so
nervous about the future. You say, "One
second. Hashem took care of you with
with the child, the marriage, kids,
business. He's taken care of you to this
point and you're still afraid? You still
don't trust him?"
You agree with Moshe Rabbenu's question
when it happened in the desert and
you're saying, "How could the Jewish
people complain? Hashem split the sea,
gave them the Torah, gave them man, took
guided them in every way. How could they
ever complain about the future?" You
know what? The same question applies to
you. How can you complain about the
future when you've seen the miracles
that Hashem has done for you to get you
to this point. So, the next time you're
worried about the future, just realize,
like Moshe Rabbenu says, like a father
carries his son, is how Hashem has
carried you till now. If he's done it
till today, he can do it tomorrow. And
that's the mistake that Moshe Rabbenu
wants to reflect to the Jewish people
during the story, when he recaps the
story of the Meraglim.
Good luck.
