The says that we have a mitzvah to put
fringes, strings on the corners of our
garment and that we should look at them
and remember all of the mitzvot of the
Torah. And here is the base where we
bring up how sit somehow connect to all
of the mitzvot.
Now
the sit themselves have a rem to this
concept of the 613 mitzvot in that the
strings. So if we count up the strings
so the word seat itself
equals
600 if you do the math and spell it
correctly. Then there are the then you
take with this this we're taking only
one of the fringes and we have eight
strings that dangle from them that's
eight and we have five knots that comes
to 13. So the the tit themselves the
word sit which is the garment with the
strings the whole thing itself
represents again 600 plus 13 equals 613
and that's what the rabbis bring as a
raz how the tit represent all of the
mitzvot that's that's the the technical
and then of course the p connects the
tit by saying you will look at the tit
and remember all of the mitzvot
now again when the Torah is speaking it
means it with a blue string. And this
whole class is going to be now about
solving the riddle and mystery of the
blue string. And in order to do that,
we're going to go first to
an interesting gamarra. It's a gamarra
in and the author or the rabbi speaking
in this gamarra is Rabbi Mayor. Rabbi
Mayor essentially asks what's so special
and unique about this blue color
that it was chosen from all the colors
in in in in the world to be this symbol
in our seat. Why blue? Why this blue
string of
and that's his question. And his answer
is the reason is that the blue that
you're looking at on your seat
is similar to the blue ocean
and the blue ocean is similar to the
blue sky and the blue sky is similar to
the blue sapphire
stone of the on God's throne of glory.
This it's a the Nvi says that there's
this blue sapphire type of throne.
Again, we don't mean a physical throne.
We mean a spiritual blue type of
sapphire throne. And so says that this
blue throne, this the blessess in the in
God's throne of glory
is connected with the blue sky which is
connected to the blue ocean which is
connected to the blue on my street.
That's the whole idea of this blue
system. I had this this this feeling
this thought that maybe we could connect
the mitzvah of to the body and soul and
my first hunch or thought was that
there's a kazal that says that the souls
of Israel and there's another sort
language used in a different book uh or
from an earlier source that it's the the
souls of the righteous. So we have two
lon that that people mention today. It's
the souls of the righteous or all Jewish
souls that are that the our souls
essentially come from under this throne
of glory, God's throne of glory. It says
they're they're carved out from under
God's throne of glory. That's where all
of our souls come from. And so here it's
interesting. We have a connection
between our soul and this throne of
glory that's blue which is connected
ultimately to the sky that's blue and
the ocean that's blue and my blue
string. So I wanted to suggest that this
blue string on my seat seat when it was
when we have it or for those that have
it is the rem or connected to my soul.
Now, I'm not such a scientific genius or
I'm not as good at solving riddles, but
I did suggest in my mind at least that
if the blue string is my soul, then the
white strings must be my
body.
I connected it of with the idea of my
soul being spiritual and my body being
physical. And then I got to thinking
that my body is physical and comes from
earth and that the earth is really
coarse after this of course after the
sin and it really hides and covers over
uh the the thing. It's not see-through
but it's the earth is not see-through.
And then that got me thinking about soul
and what does a soul possibly
spiritually look like and body and
here's here's what here's the line of
thought that I was thinking I I was
basing it on on a cabalistic idea that
the uh
the we call him and his re reversh one
of the great Jewish leaders in the four
15 or 1600s
he writes from Kabala this all brought
from Kabala. He explains that before
Adam and Eve sinned and again this is
from Kabala he's not the source of it
but he brings it in his safe beautiful
which I recommend anyone looking at when
they can if they can. So he he explains
that before the sin body and soul were
both on the level of light. There was a
body of light and a soul of light. And
after the sin that's when God changed
this body of light which again the word
light starts with the letter olif a body
of light and change it to a body of
flesh which starts with the letter in or
flesh in Hebrew. So originally Adam's
body was a body of light and then it was
switched to a body of flesh the fleshy
skinny that we have today. What's the
difference between a body of light and a
body of flesh? A body of light shines
like the soul. And a body of flesh is
opaque and covers up the soul with it.
That's the essential difference.
Okay. So So now let's go one step
further.
So the body comes from earth which is
opaque but the soul and a soul of light
would be clear and transparent. We
actually have a custom connected to this
and we have a body part that's there to
remind us of it. In havdala we we when
we go to doda we take our nails and we
point our nails to the light in order to
see the reflection of the candle on our
nails. Now the technical thing we're
trying to accomplish is to use the
light, benefit from the light. But the
reason why we and an added benefit is
why we take it to our nails is because
our nails reflect that light and then
that's how we could see the reflection
on our nails and we've used the light.
But at the same time the rabbis discuss
and there's a zohor coalistic work that
gets into it. What's with these nails?
So they explain that these nails are
remind us of marishon's body before he
sinned. these nails, your nails also
nails. And that's very interesting
because that's bizarre when you I don't
I think you know coming from a
contemporary perspective a modern world
and when you hear that Adam's body was
like our nails it sounds weird. I in my
opinion at least I don't know you all
agree with me it sounds a bit weird.
>> Yes. No. Maybe. So okay
>> still figuring it out.
>> Okay. So let let it absorb. So what what
it doesn't mean is that that that there
was once upon a time a diff a new an un
unheard of superhero called nailman. It
doesn't mean that you know whatever you
might nonsense that you might think it
means they're trying to teach us a very
deep concept. What color are my nails?
Everybody what color are your nails?
>> Clear.
>> Translucent. Transparent. They're they
they're see-through on whatever level
they are.
>> That's the message. No, opaque is the
opposite. When I see pink underneath my
nail, that's the flesh that's making it
look pinkish. The the the white part on
top is is a different part. It's not as
see-through as mom is transparent, but
the fact that the skin color underneath
the nail comes through my nail where the
nails are attached tells me that there's
a level of of transparency to the nail.
And I think that's the message. Meaning
this, we're being told that before Adam
sinned, just like the the the
say before Adam sinned, his body was on
whatever level it was transparent,
translucent. It was see-through and it
was on a level of light. It was its own
light, but at the same time, the light
of the soul was able to shine through
the body. And when we look at our nail,
we're remembering once upon a time again
because moz Shabbat is when the world
goes back to its unfortunate not so
perfect world. Shabas is a moment of
perfection. We we all rise to this world
of Shabas is almost like a level of
before the sin of of ganed. So after
Shabas we right away remind ourselves
what was but where we're stuck. We look
at our nails to remind us that there was
an Adam before this sin. Adam and Eve,
male and female, human beings. There was
a level that humanity was on before the
sin. And there's a level now that we're
on which is after the sin. And there's a
reason why we're looking at this at
Abdullah. It's because we have to
understand now where we are. We have to
know what to do about it. We have to
there's what to fix. The whole deeper
concept from a spiritual and even a more
ide ideology type of perspective. The
reason why we have to work six days a
week is interesting. The Torah actually
says you will work six days a week and
you'll rest on Shabas Shabbat. And
that's a actually a big question, big
problem. We're not obligated to work. So
why does the Torah language say you will
work six days and you'll rest one day?
Because whether you're rich or or and
and on vacation [clears throat] all your
life or you're poor and you need to work
six days a week, there's a spiritual
work that we're all obligated to do. the
real six days of the week which
correspond to the 6,000 years that we're
here correspond to the the the the the
world that we live in and the 6,000
years which is all encompassed in the
title for these 6,000 years. It's called
the world of ma of action which also
means the world of tikun rectification.
We are here to work and rebuild and
repair the broken world that we are a
part of and the broken us that we have
to deal with. That is the sixth days of
the week that we must work on. Six days
you will work and on the seventh day
which is when Mashiah will come we will
be we'll have reached that potential and
the world will be will be fixed and
we'll live forever in that perfect world
as we're fixed. But so the Torah when it
says you will work six days and rest on
Shabbat, it means we need to work six
days but not because we need to have
money to have a car and a house. We need
to work spiritually on this world to fix
this world in ourselves. And so that's
why we work six days and on the seventh
day we rest. And now when we're doing
havdala, so we're reminding us about
ourselves about all of this. We're
saying, "Okay, Shabbat is over and it's
time to get back to our current reality.
There was a a shattering of the vessels
and there's a brokenness in the world
and there's a fixing that needs to be
done. And it's our time to focus on
bringing the power and energy and
holiness of Shabbat of of the Shabas.
Bringing it into the weekday and using
it to instill my week, my work week with
holiness and actually to to find the
hidden holiness within my weekly
activities and to elevate them and
harness them. That's what the whole work
week is all about. It's not really so I
could be some important big shot boss or
some some real estate guy that owns owns
a whole city. It's it's it's because I'm
here to repair the spiritual dimension
that that work is related to. Okay. Now,
back to our particular discussion with
theit again. We're going to go back to
that. So, now we understand
the nail represents the idea of a body
that was once transparent, see-through,
right? And the soul represents this idea
of the light of the soul that comes from
underneath the throne of glory. And now
let's go back to Rabbi Mayor's teaching
and see I think what we're going to see
is unbelievable. Okay. Rebeer says why
did God pick blue to be the color of the
the string and the sit? Because it's the
same color as the blue ocean and again
same color as the blue sky and the
throne of the Lord. But there's a
problem with this whole scenario.
There's one huge practical practical
problem and what that is anyone from the
or anyone from this audience what's the
problem with Rebe's idea
>> when you look at something to think of
something that makes you think of
something else that makes you think of
>> excellent excellent
>> journey of your mind
>> one of the answers from the students is
that why is Ruby Mayor taking us on this
tour is what is he is he like a what do
you call that again I can't my mind is
he a tour guide. Yeah. What's he do?
He's taking I would love to go to the
beach, but it's not. So, why is he
taking us to the beach then? He's taking
us on a trip in a wonderful uh one of
those floating uh balloons. What? Just
get to the point. Look at your blue
string and there's a throne of glory
that's blue. We could That's all he had
to say was there's a blue string and
it's and you know what? So, is the
throne of glory blue? That's all he had
to say. Why are we going to the ocean
and the sky? So, there are reasons
according to the simple understanding of
the Gamarra. For example, uh we're
talking about what's a closer match. So
the turquoise or the of my string is
more like the ocean, less like the sky.
So I want to go to the more accurate
match and then I want to go to the sky.
And then I ultimately want to get to
this conceptual throne of glory that is
also blue. That's one answer. Another
answer is levels of expansion. Meaning
what ultimately that wants us to do is
expand our minds and understand
expansiveness. What does that mean? That
means I live in a physical limited world
and in my physical limited world I don't
see how grand the spiritual worlds are.
So I want to start with what seems to be
the most expansive thing on my ground
level world is when I go to the the
shoreline of an ocean and it seems to go
forever and ever and ever. That's very
expansive. And you know what's even more
expansive? When I see the end of the
ocean and it meets the sky and I look at
the sky. Wow. The sky is like wow.
There's no end to the sky. And now I can
I'm prepared to think about the
expansiveness of the spiritual realms
that are infinite in comparison to this
these limited physical realms and this
throne of glory of gods [clears throat]
that is also in this bless unbelievable
that's those are the tuphat answers but
I'm looking for a bit of a different
answer and therefore I have a question
and a problem one of them is why is he
taking me to all these places but
there's another more practical obvious
problem that maybe you'll think we would
skip but I don't want to skip Anyone
here feel another problem with remor
taking me to a blue ocean?
>> You don't wear the tail. Some people
don't wear it.
>> No, we covered that. We're talking about
the essential mitzvah or for those that
wear it.
>> They're not blue at night.
>> The ocean.
>> Yeah.
>> Excellent. We're halfway there. So the
ocean is not blue at night. It's black
at night. So it's a so it's a
schizophrenic ocean. It's blue during
the day, black at night.
>> Okay. There but there's it's one
>> one step deeper. And I'll ask you all
and we'll get to the answer. I think why
is the blue black at night and not
during the day?
>> Cuz we don't wear a t. [clears throat]
>> Excellent. We have our answer
reflection. And that's what we want to
get at
Mayor. He was one of the deepest rabbis.
One of the deepest deepest rabbis. And
they say that why we don't follow him is
because we we didn't fully understand
him. Not because he was maybe wrong, but
that we couldn't reach the the depth of
his wisdom. And I believe he's teaching
us something very deep and very unique
in this teaching. And and this is my
first question again beyond the body and
soul connection. I'm saying why can't I
just look straight up to the sky or just
go straight to the throne of glory
because I have the blue blue. Why is he
taking me to me to an ocean that's not
even really blue? Because once you get
in an ocean and you start playing with
the water, you realize there's nothing
blue about an ocean. So why is an ocean
blue? because it's reflecting the blue
of the sky. So it makes this question
even stronger. Why go to a not blue
ocean that's only getting its bless from
the sky first instead of going straight
to the source of the blue, which is the
sky. And then even better, let's go
straight to the throne of glory, which
perhaps could be the source of the blue
sky itself. Because if there's a throne
of glory that's spiritually blue, that's
probably why the sky is blue. So just
get right to the point. I have a blue
string on my on my clothing to remind me
of God's throne of glory which is blue
and then I'm I'm done. I can remember
all of the mitzvah that come from my
king God and do them. Why do I even need
the sky and the ocean in there? And
furthermore, I certainly don't need the
ocean. And so here's what I think Rebe
is hinting to is this.
He wants me to go to something that's
transparent and that reflects because
what are we talking about here with the
titus? We're talking about the body and
soul. And when we talk about body and
soul, we're talking about what body was.
Body and soul, what it was and what it
is and therefore what we're trying to
get it back to. That's what's really
going on over here. What is the purpose
of the mitzvah? Why do the cities
represent mitzvah? And why am I going to
the ocean to the sky to the throat?
Because I want to understand and
appreciate the real relationship of body
and soul and how these 613 mitzvah are
going to solve my body and soul
problems. And what it essentially means
is to go from where I am now, a level of
separation, a level where body and soul
are enemies and they work against each
other and body covers up the soul. And I
want to remember that's not how it
always was. It wasn't always such a hard
story, such a sad story. There was a
time before the sin where body and soul
were beloveds. They were in love with
each other. They were partners in life,
not partners in crime. They they they
they were bonded in a oneness, in a
unity, the great light and the smaller
light, body and soul, two great lights,
uh transparent reflective body that
facilitated shining the light of the
soul, not that covered it up. And that's
what Mary wants us to see. He says,
"You're on earth right now. You're
you're you we're not but another
question. We're not earth we're not
ocean creatures. We're earth creatures.
We walk on earth. We don't walk on
water. Excuse funny statement. Let's
continue. We we we walk on earth.
>> So
>> So the point is he wants to tell us
there's a problem with the earth that we
walk on. It's opaque. The earth the way
it is cannot reflect the the blue sky
because it's opaque. It's it's
tarnished. It's a flesh body that we
have in a and a coarse earth. But once
upon a time, the earth was able to
reflect the heavens and the body body of
light was able to reflect the soul. They
actually shine together as this
unbelievable greater than great light.
And that's what he's teaching us. You
have a body. The body is is is coarse.
It's opaque. It's a body of flesh. But
once upon a time, you had a body of ore,
a body of light. And how can you remind
yourself of it? The same way we look at
our nails at Abdullah, go look at the
ocean that's clear. Clear. It's the It's
the only physical thing we have in the
world that's clear. Well, we have other
physical things that we can make this
clear, but the ocean represents this
great body that's clear. Not like the
earth that's opaque. That's what was and
this is what is. And look at where you
are. And look where I'm trying to take
you. I'm trying to take you to where
what once was. And that reflects the
sky, which reflects the the throne of
glory, which is our soul. And that's the
lesson that Ruby Mayor is teaching us.
And why Rebe mayor? This is this is a
very interesting point.
Very interesting and and a little bit of
an odd story.
Rebeer [snorts]
had a safer Torah that he wrote, his own
safer Torah. And in the place in the
Torah where it was written or with an
iron, our [clears throat] Torah has or
with an iron or really if you have to
have that safari pronunciation or
may had a unique Torah. Whether it was
kosher or not, I assume it was kosher.
how and why and whatever works out. He
had in his Torah an olive where it said
that God made for Adam and Eve a fle a
body of flesh. In Rime's Torah it said
God made a body of light for Adam and
Eve. What was he doing with a safety
Torah that had the the word light
instead of the flesh? So essentially he
had a seat to Torah that was before the
sense of Torah. He had a safety
representing what was not what is. And I
think that's why he specifically is the
one coming to teach us here in the
mitzvah sits about this body of light
because it's he had that level connected
to it. He taught about he had a Torah of
that level and he's telling us that the
mitzvah of which is the 613 mitzvah
which are connected the 613 limbs and
senus of my body corresponds to the 613
limbs and senus of my soul which
ultimately correspond to the 613 limbs
and senus limbs and senus of this image
of God this divine image in the higher
spiritual worlds in the throne of glory
that's what he's teaching us that's what
he's telling us. So this is it's very
powerful and that's why the mitzvah are
connected to the tikun, the
rectification of everything. But there's
more to the story. This is really what
going to take it to another level right
now. And that is right now we would
understand that the body is from the
earth and it's coarse and it's horrible
and it's anim animalistic and it's it's
not good. And the soul is great. Soul is
spiritual. It's lofty. it comes from the
higher worlds. But there's a little bit
of a piece of information we want to
add. Right? Now, the truth is there is
another rabbi that kind of says some of
what I just said and I didn't I found
about it after I found this book. The
the safer from one of the rishonim he
writes when he discusses the mitzvah of
he says the same thing. He says
that his heart was telling him that the
mitzvah of the tit corresponds to body
and soul. Similar to what I said I I
said it on my own. So I said it first
then I came across this book. So I'm
mentioning it now. He mentions that the
the body and soul correspond to the tit.
The blue string is the soul and the
white strings are the body where I only
just said I I only assumed it does but I
didn't know why or how. He's a great
he's a great Torah sage or one of the
rishim. So he proves it and I'm going to
share with you now what he adds to this
idea because he's going to explain to us
why the white strings are body and where
these white strings come from where the
body ultimately comes from. And he says
like this. If you look at two places in
Kazal, one is a pir
and it says this that ultimately the the
body of man comes from the earth right
after the sin. It comes from the earth
which is opaque and coarse. Where does
earth come from? Believe it or not
according to
rebel
the body itself comes from snow. That's
the real source of our body is white
snow. And guess where that that white
snow comes from.
We don't have that many options in the
way in the way our talks go.
>> Go a little higher than the sky.
>> The throne of glory.
Rebelzar teaches us that there was aside
from the blue souls that came from the
under the throne of glory. So also
underneath that throne of glory there is
white snow which is the source of the
earth and the source of our bodies. So
it comes out unbelievable what we call
flip the script idea. We think that the
body is garbage and the soul is is is
amazing. No, it's all about potential.
The the soul is amazing before the sin
and after the sin it wasn't affected the
same way. But the body was equally
amazing. It was it was also a great
light. And this is what it means.
Originally the the body comes from this
white snow which was also underneath the
throne of glory. So my body is [snorts]
as holy as my soul in potential. It has
the same place in the higher worlds
underneath God's throne of glory.
There's white snow which is my body and
blue which is my soul. And they both
shine a unique light together which is
this unbelievable light that we can
shine it elon in the image of God the
divine image the 613 limbs and senus of
the mitzvah the the zar already says
that the six the 248 commandments
positive are ultimately 248 limbs of the
king of hashem each mitzvah corresponds
to a divine expression and each a
corresponds to something else they're
not literally
In that case, maybe it's because of the
negative misses, but but the totality of
the 613 is the totality of the spiritual
worlds and how they're formed and
shaped. And ultimately, our soul is
built in that same manner in the
likeness of the Eljonim. And our body is
just a suit that's also customtailor
made to fit that exact soul that is
built the same way that the Eljonim were
built. So, it's all a match. It's all an
exact match. And that's why these 613
mitzvah are what are going to reunify
body and soul and bring them both back
to the level of light and oneness and
unity when Msiah comes. And that's the
secret and story that's going on over
here that Rebe is showing us. It takes
the mitzvah of and revolutionizes. This
is an unbelievable mitzvah that connects
to the essence of creation and the
entire purpose of what we're here to
accomplish. And it's these 613 keys that
are going to open up all those locks and
bring body and soul and world and God to
an absolute oneness when Msiah comes.
>> Amen. Amen.
