[Music] when you log in on Facebook you don't expect them to use your data and manipulate your behavior well the chip has sailed a long time ago I'm about to tell you the story of a psychological experiment that Facebook conducted on its own users something that Facebook doesn't want you to know in 2012 Facebook began an experiment in which they took 700,000 of their own users and separated them into two groups then Facebook used their algorithms and and tampered their timeline one group was shown a large number of positive posts whereas the other group was shown mostly negative posts the main goal of this experiment was to find out whether the company can alter the emotional state of its users and they did the experiment revealed that the users were prone to emotional contagion which means that the users who were shown negative comments posted more negative comments themselves and the users who were shown more positive stuff showed more positiv on the platform in a way the experiment successfully altered the emotional state of its large number of users and made them feel how they wanted them to feel it showed that social media platforms have the ability to alter people's behavior as they please well that was 2012 a decade later this has become a new normal and nobody cares [Music]
