I'm not 65 years old.
I'm [music] 3,300
years old. Part of that chain. [music]
The Bible, after all, is my family
album. Not just mine, but our people's
[music] record of our nation's history
and remarkable destiny. [music] And
we're not to go at this alone, rather to
be a light to the nations.
So, as it turns out,
there are hundreds of messianic
prophecies throughout the Hebrew Bible,
numerous oracles that describe the
messianic age. the events that will
unfold at the end of days in a som
hundreds of them very famous locations
in scripture. Isaiah as an example
chapter 2 so famous so beautiful
sweeping prophecies in Isaiah chapter 11
Micah chapter 4
the whole end of the book of Ezekiel
from 34 on is all about the days of the
Messiah the messianic age
most of those prophecies describe the
age in how the world will be
transformed. There are some passages
that describe the Messiah himself.
That's not nearly as important.
There is a refrain
which our sages of blessed memory
imparted to us
and that is although we could see the
brac basic framework of what is going to
happen in the messianic age
there'll be a a worldwide knowledge of
God that's most central
knowledge of God will cover the world as
the water covers the sea Isaiah 11:9
No one's will have to teach anyone about
God for they shall all know me from the
least of them till the greatest of them
declares the Lord. So it's striking as
I'm sharing this with you right here in
Jerusalem.
These oracles were expressed right here.
I mean Isaiah
walked down these streets. So did
Jeremiah. So does Zephaniah. In fact,
most of the prophets were written
were written right here
in gathering of the exiles. Isaiah
preached that right here.
He lived right here. Isaiah 43:5 and 6.
that Hashem will bring us back, restore
us, the restoration,
the building of the temple right here.
In fact, essentially the last nine
chapters of Ezekiel
describe with precision what the final
messianic temple will look like.
>> We find that also at the end of Ezekiel
37, the last five passages.
that there will be a building of a final
temple and [snorts] then the nation will
know that I am Lord. It's really quite
exquisite. It's very very beautiful.
The coming of Elijah the prophet will
usher in that final moment. The book of
Malachi which is one of three prophets
that lived during the Persian Empire.
It's the very end of the prophetic
period speaks about this
that finally justice will come to the
world.
It's very intriguing however that our
sages
tell us clearly
that while we know what is going to
happen, we have the outline of what must
occur, the restoration of the Davidic
dynasty. In fact, the Messiah himself is
called David
in so many prophecies. Hosea, Hosea
didn't live in Jerusalem. He lived the
same time as Isaiah, but he lived up in
the north
with Amos, who was from this area. So
interesting. What a wonderful time to
live. So our sages tell us that although
we can explain to you what these
passages mean, however,
they explain that as it turns out only
the final generation,
the generation who will live during the
time of the gula, during the time of the
redemption,
only they will understand with detail of
precisely what's going to happen. Now
don't make don't make any mistake about
this. There will be a temple to be the
full in gathering of the Jewish people
to their land.
Jerusalem, the worldwide knowledge of
God, the resurrection of the dead is
very very clear. Our sages tell us that
in fact only the final dur the
generation that witnesses it, they will
understand completely what these
passages actually mean. My monities in
his laws of kings in the last chapter
takes time to make this point that
people should not speculate on making
calculations or that many of these
they're not metaphors but many of the
the imagery that we find only will be
understood not by them
but by the generation who lives during
the ghoul who lives during the time of
The redemption.
We know that the redemption will occur
in a series of stages. We could see this
easily as an example in Zachchariah 12.
A whole series of stages like the
Exodus. Like why is the Passover meal a
moment on the Jewish calendar when we
recall the Exodus? Why is it called a
seder in order of events?
Because the redemption is occurring in
an order of events. We must have Jacob's
trouble. Jeremiah 30:7. It's the worst
time in Jewish history. We know what
occurred eight decades ago when European
jewelry was destroyed. Of course.
However, we're living in a time when
this generation for what for some reason
we are witnessing messianic prophecy
unfold before our eyes. And I confess to
you
that
I always wondered why did God choose
me according to his wisdom to be here
and all of us like my greatgrandfather
who was murdered by the Nazis in 1944
in Hungary. He was a very great man
like why me and not him? I don't know
the answer to that question but
who
was standing on their shoulders.
But we're living in a remarkable time.
We're living in a time when the
redemption is unfolding. Now, the
prophecies of a great trauma that occurs
to the children of Israel immediately
before the coming of the Messiah
is outlined in Zechariah 12. Very
clearly occurred
on October 7th.
The only chapter in Zechariah is so the
book of Zechariah is not an easy book to
understand
the book of Zechariah as Rashi says has
stumos things that are hidden. It's not
sort of esoteric. It's just that
Zachchariah employs a language. There
are eight visions at the outset of the
book of Zechariah.
It's not very complicated, but it's not
something you just pick up and read.
Like, you could just pick up the book of
Joshua
and
very quickly understand what you're
reading. It's using a standard pros to
convey a historical convey historical
events. It's easy to read. It's very
easy to follow. You may not be able to
figure out what the message is. That's
what makes it tricky. Zachchariah.
Conversely, like Isaiah and Jeremiah,
it's pretty easy to know what they're
trying to convey the basic moral
message. But the key is that we are
living in a time of the redemption. But
we, this generation
is witnessing the final redemption that
our forefathers that our sages could
only dream about. We are. Why us? I
don't know.
And now here we are
>> kipper is soon upon us. We have on rash
sha on the first day of the seven
months. We have coronated god as king.
We recognize that he alone is lord.
And now Hashem also has said that you
know what
I can work with you but spend these 10
days preparing for Yam Kipur with
repentance
turning back to me. Let's fix our
marriage. I'd marry you all over again.
But our marriage certainly needs some
work.
I say this to you my dear brothers and
sisters that this is a time
we have to be a pure heart but the
redemption now is upon us. The gula is
very very close to us right now.
We're observing it now. We're at a stage
very it's not that we're close to it is
that the events are unfolding now before
our eyes. Those of you who have even a a
preuncter, a superficial knowledge of
messianic prophecy know that these
things are happening right now.
And we are standing on the shoulders
of the great saints of the past.
I'm not 65 years old.
I'm 3,300
years old. part of that chain.
The Bible, after all, is my family
album. Not just mine, but our people's
a record of our nation's history
and remarkable destiny. And we're not to
go at this alone, rather to be a light
to the nations, to bring all the world
to Jerusalem.
Isaiah 49 verse 6 to bring back the lost
tribes to restore them.
And I say this as we approach Yamipur
to be pure of heart
to return our hearts to the Almighty to
keep our eyes locked on heaven that
every knee will bend to him alone our
rock, our redeemer, our savior. We are
after all called by God to be witnesses.
That's the role of the Jew.
You're my witnesses, declares the Lord,
my servant whom I have chosen. They
should know, believe, and understand
that I'm Lord. Besides me,
there's no other Lord. None before me,
none after me. I even I am the Lord. And
besides me, there's no savior.
He's our only rock. He's our only
redeemer.
And our hearts have to be pure because
we are the generation
that has been called has been given the
mandate to be a light to the nations
during this shasagulo. It's this
remarkable epic of the redemption.
Why us? Why not our great great
grandparents?
I don't know.
It's according to his will, according to
his perfect knowledge. We surrender to
him. The secret thing is belong to the
Lord.
But that which has been revealed belongs
to us and our children forever, that we
may keep all the words of this Torah.
That's how Deuteronomy chapter 29 ends.
It's time to return now so [music] we
may witness the coming of the true
Messiah.
