week but also which means mundane as opposed to what shabas so the last day of the week is uh Friday even though shabas is the real last day of the week it's the seventh day y but that's its own it's that's its own category so the last day of the week isn't really the last day of the week the last day of the week means the last weekday even in English we have the term weekday you know I saw a sign in the south in in the Deep In The Deep South it said no Bible study for seven days makes one week y you got it makes one week I was also I was in the South and I saw a sign and it said that no long hair freaky people need not apply it's true yeah speaking of long-haired freaky people D tab get a haircut that was um Accord in accordance with Hala it says that if a person is God forbid an oval they're mourning the loss of a parent they shouldn't get a haircut for days but even after 30 days not until their friends scream at them so I would like to invite I'm not sure if doid will consider that screaming because he'll probably know that I was joking so if you see doid please scream at him and tell him get a haircut hippie okay um I want to I want to do a little bit of an announce oun M because I want to be stuck I want to get myself committed so I'm publicly saying something so I won't be able to back down I'm starting something new tyel are you listening by the way because I need you to set this up for me um we're going to start something I think that the the working title is the soul Survival Guide it's going to be a a course on the kajabi platform T tabble you're listening like the way that we do the the parenting course on kajabi but this is going to be um not a parenting course it's going to be for sensitive Souls it's going to be for the people who are struggling in this embodiment and they're Champions they're just putting up the good fight every day to handle this embodiment with Grace and with poise and we want to uh want to give some some guidance some encouragement a little bit of strength and numbers you know the group the group dynamic so we're going to start a thing um special thing I'm going to say just transparently right now it's it's a paid thing okay so I put out tons of free content including this thing and I was so tired I was sick this week I didn't want to do it and my kids told me ta you don't have to do it you don't have to do live call this week and I said good cancel it and then I decided you know what let's just do it but I was very sick this week on The Fast day last Friday I was so sick and then shabas I was so sick and I had to keep going to Sho because uh I'm staying cish right now so I couldn't not go to Sho I had to just keep going um what camera keeps blurring what's going on tybo's messaging me to the event at the soul word's house in kimria Heights it's going to be really really cool basically I'm thinking I mean I I have to decide cuz I don't know if you guys are going to distract me with your shenanigans but I'm thinking of just like there's going to be a big open event space not I'm thinking that there will be there is I mean God willing that there's going to be a big wide openen event space I'm thinking of possibly doing the Thursday night show there and just sit there in the middle of the big event space and let people hang out and hope but that's what I'm I'm not sure I can do it as sort of like an incidental thing the main thing is the food is for energy so we can do podcasts um yeah mine is pizza pizza and a good hamburger with pickles and Fri okay I hope not pizza and a hamburger at the same time though cuz B meat and milk so I hope those are separate and I hope you don't tell me no it's okay it's a cheeseless pizza cheeseless pizza is not a pizza you can call it five words okay I'm going to do a freestyle for you okay just write five I'm joking joking okay um so today is my father's scham scham is the 30 days Memorial which interestingly enough is counted from the burial not from the day of passing cuz I think it's like 32 days since his passing but now is 30th day since the burial um to a certain extent it's supposed to constitute a lessening of the intensity of the grief I don't know if I'm feeling that or not but technically there is a uh release from certain levels of Al ex stringency that's why I mentioned before that um D get a haircut yeah okay um did anyone see [Music] the the uh lecture that I posted stories from my father I posted it in honor of the uh scham and I told a bunch of stories and jokes that my father had told me and some of it some of it I gave the meaning although not all of it and I commented that when my father told me these stories and jokes he didn't necessarily tell me the meaning either uh my father had a very subtle style he was not dactic like his son you know I like to explain everything and unpack everything and analyze everything and make sure that you understood it and repeat it in another way with another metaphor and another example and another story and another illustration my father was a much simpler Communicator he was tell me the story and that's it he didn't really explain the meaning of the story he just told me the story and apparently his method worked because you know it's decades later and I'm remembering the stories and I think I got the point I think I I think I got the point from all of these stories that he told me without him having to spell it out maybe I need to learn from that a little bit you don't have to spell everything out you can just sometimes tell the story tell the joke you don't have to explain it especially the joke you know the say that explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog you'll understand it better but it's dead that's what they say that itself is a joke um so I'll tell you a joke that my father told me and this is not in the lecture stories that my father told me I I I meant to say it but I forgot to say it I even wrote it down in my notes and then I forgot to say it and it tell you know guy is sitting at the therapist office at 7:00 in the morning he says thank you so much for seeing me at this emergency appointment at 7:00 in the morning I'll tell you why I scheduled this emergency appointment I actually I I had a nightmare last night I I dreamt that I was sitting in your office with you and I was talking to you just like I'm talking to you now but then when I finished talking I looked up and you would you had become my mother you had become my mother and it was so disturbing I couldn't fall back asleep I was just tossing and turning until the sun came up I left the message with your answering service asking for this emergency appointment I couldn't even eat breakfast I just drank a can of Coke and I came straight here and the therapist looks at the guy and says a can of Coke for breakfast yeah and my father did not Tell me the meaning of that but you can go figure it out y says I loved your sharing of your dad's jokes and stories I know Y in real life I met her in boka Ron isn't that right wasn't it in boka was it was a shabas inoka was yvad a couple years ago is that what it was is a super fan I think she's seen like everything that I've [Applause] posted okay let me just check the Google Doc over here one and Q waiting okay so y I'm going to send you a message right now y my son my dear son actually I'm you my dear son I'm writing a message on the Google Doc okay come on is stop is I'm trying to type on the Google Doc why is oh request edit access I'm going to Whatsapp you see we have such a professional we have such a professional setup over here okay and you thr don't tell me I can't talk to the callers without them without everybody hearing um I thought you have I thought mendal out or yes is the answer to my question okay you'll ask and I'll stall while you're asking and I'll tell you another story story is that um when I was I don't know three or four years old Star Wars came out and it was like the cool thing in the world and my father dressed up a C3PO for my birthday party you know C3PO a robot my father literally stayed up all night and he made a C3PO costume there was no Amazon you couldn't just order a see through b custume he made one from scratch out of aluminum foil and cardboard and he covered his entire body with aluminum foil and cardboard and literally looked exactly like C3PO and he walked into the birthday party and all the other little three and four year-old brats who are my friends tore it off of him they with Glee they just took pure delight in the destruction of the costume like it was a pinata they just you know like the celebration of Destruction they just tore right he spent all night making that costume and they just ripped it clean off of him I was so UPS upset I was so upset I always hated want and destruction especially when children engage in want and I never liked children as a child I was always uncomfortable around children I always found them chaotic it's a Marvel that I get along with my children when they're young but you can ask my kids but my kids are mellow to my wife's credit my wife is very good at soothing my kids my kids are mellow my kids are not spasmodic my kids never never were like intell you know a lot of kids are just chaotic they just love to I don't know just scream and shriek and break things and yeah and I'm not saying like my kids don't play and Frolic they do you know but they were never like chaotic like that anyways that was very traumatizing for me that they ripped up the C3PO costume but what I took from it is just another example of my father's selflessness and about being selfless for your kids doing anything for your kids he really did he did he really did when he went just above and beyond anything that we wanted okay we got our first caller on the line um yeah so Gabriel yeah hello hello can you hear me I hear you now I asked you to ask you if I'm allowed to like say hi to you like in real life and you and he told me you said yes yeah absolutely you be my okay so what I want to explain is you know we get a lot of calls most people that call I have no idea who they are um but Gabriel's actually an old friend now I haven't actually met you in physical space in real life but we've interacted a lot and uh you're a good friend of Soul words and uh I feel connected to you cuz we've spoken about a lot of stuff together and um it's nice to talk to you right now what I think is kind of interesting is you've got my WhatsApp you could just contact me anytime you want so like I think most of the people are using the Callin show because they have no access but I don't know maybe you you wanted to put me in a situation where I was forced to go through the whole conversation you know to see it through to theend I'm not sure but it's great to talk to you Gabriel it's really really great to talk to you how are you doing I'm doing well I'm doing well I'm uh yeah I uh I just got my kids dinner which is in uh pertinent to the to what I wanted to talk to you about um and yeah no I just um I I I was I've had a question out which I've been meaning to talk with you about and uh at first I was just gonna watch and and let everyone learn from anyone else's questions and then I saw that no one was in the CU so have you been watching I mean might as well more or less have you been with us every Thursday night uh no no I have not I just found out about this today okay so I want to tell you something it's been really amazing the quality of calls like I I I've been stunned like people call in and they're like serious and vulnerable and sincere and it's a lot of it's like really wow stuff so I encourage you to go back and and listen to some of the recorded and we make we make Clips out of them if you go on our YouTube channel a lot of the each of the I think all of them actually we end up making separate Clips out of them so we had some really awesome calls anyways so yeah all right you're on with me okay so what are we talking about tonight um so my I guess what I've been wanting to think about is with the the depth and breadth of of uh of learning to be had learning to be learned in particularly um as an aspiring B and as someone who really doesn't even read Hebrew and I have a a lifetime of learning and I feel so busy with my uh career and and just made the kids dinner so yeah yeah got little kids I just made the kids to dinner and I wasn't able to and and my my wife works Thursday evening so Thursdays I'm never able to because I'm taking care of the kids uh and I I I think a little while ago I just had this this image of you know like I would love to be able to to study and and and I mean I'm making my way to Tiny um some of the other books but um but I just feel like you know at times it feels like well this lifetime is uh I'll support people who learn and I'll get the the clip note version and I just won't get to do the real thing and uh and there's like tragedy in that and it's be and and I yeah and so that how do you reconcile that I mean at this point I'm I'm probably a much better doctor than I would be a an elementary uh but you know there's a part wishes I could be um but I don't think that's where the best I can do in the world is so yeah first of all that's yeah first of all this this is a good problem it's a healthy problem meaning at the end of the day what is it that troubles you is that you just want to learn more Torah and that's beautiful and and even somebody who's literally learning all day every day should also be heartbroken that he wishes he could learn even more because Torah is infinite and you'll never cover it all so that's really the way you should feel you should feel that uh that you want much more than what you're getting but let let's talk about this that this sort of lament of you have a career and you have a family and there's only so much time in the day and it's like I like how you put it like maybe in this lifetime I'm here to support others who learn um and you know there there's a term for that I'm sure you're aware of the the the and zun partnership yeah okay no okay so great gives me an opportunity to talk about it um the 12 tribes are 12 children of Jacob and two of the 12 tribes are yakar and zun I don't know how they say it in English you know iser and Ze zebulun I don't know how they say it and z um and they had a partnership where Zulan would go out they actually were uh seafaring merchants and they would do business okay and Y would study and they had a sort of symbiotic relationship where the the money made by Zulan funded the Torah study uh of of yak so there's something great and Noble about being the one who provides the possibility for others to learn you you go out you make a living and you pay for Torah to be disseminated that's like it's beautiful and it's like you know it's a it's it's a it's a it's a celebrated and it's an honorable position to be in now I'm going to tell you something that EBA says um which I think you're going to enjoy especially because you said that one of one area you particularly want to advance in your studies is in so I'll tell you something from the Zan the name Zan um comes from the word dile or residence zul and zulan's mother Leia actually says she named him that name because now my husband Jacob Yakov his primary dwelling will be with me because he had four wives so now the zulin is born so zulin is a punon with the word that means residence now his primary residence will be with me so that EV asks a question and I don't think anyone else would come up with this question the question is Yakov represents Torah study we know this from early on when he's introduced we know that his brother his twin brother asov is the um is s he's a man of the field who knows how to hunt but regarding yankit says that he's the is y aim he's the uh sincere straightforward man who sits in the tents of Torah study he's uh he's he's a Yeshiva boy so the re asks a question if yank aino Jacob represents Torah study and Zulan represents success in business even though that business success is then used to fund Torah study it seems strange that the names vullen would mean that yakov's main residence will be with him yaka represents Torah his main residence meaning spiritually where does he where is he represented most with Yak who's the full-time Torah learner yeah yes Zulan supports toora study but to say that that's his primary residence spiritually it's not it's not compatible it's not consistent so that deba answers the question says like this and and I'm not doing Justice to the S I'm giving a very short and crude synopsis yeah but um the says this is the meaning of it says in in in the gamar that when person passes away and they come to the Heavenly Court they are asked certain questions and one one of the questions they're asked is did you engage in fair business practices and another question that they're asked is did you set aside times for Torah study and in that order actually so the rebba says it's interesting they ask about the business before the Torah and the debba says yeah you know why because it says did you set aside times for Torah stud it didn't say did you study the whole Torah didn't say how much Torah did you study it didn't say can we quiz you and see how much of a Torah scholar you are it says the question they ask in the Heavenly Court after you've lived your life did you set aside time so the debba says actually you have to first establish the person who was involved in business in order to even have the question did you set aside time because a person who doesn't have business who studies Torah all day long all day every day doesn't set aside time for Torah study that's all he does so a yak who studies Torah all day he's in K doesn't set aside time for T stud aulan who works has to set aside time so that's the relationship between those two questions and then says the the answer to the original question why is the main dwelling of yank who represents Torah with Zulan who represents business the de says you want to know why because the prim Torah study of a Jew is specifically that precious little amount that the Jew sets a sets aside carves out makes a time even though he has so many other responsibilities so it CH it just changes the whole perspective instead of saying there's so much toor to learn and I've learned so little well first of all Torah is infinite you've you've always learned nothing compared to what there is to learn but second of all and more importantly um that I was saying don't think of it in terms of how much Mastery have you achieved think about it in terms of the meaning the significance of those precious times that you've set aside and to treat those times as sacred the term in Hebrew is Kos means to establish or to AIX um not just you know I'll pencil it in people always say I'll pencil it in nobody actually has a pencil anymore they put it in their smartphone but I'll pencil it in but the term I'll pencil it in why not I'll pen it in you know why because penciling you could erase the pencil pen is you know to you can't erase penciling something in means it's tentative you know TBA to be announced setting aside times for Torah study the whole point is that you can't erase it you can't erase it so if somebody would tell me you know I study Torah full-time that's not nearly as significant or impressive as as if somebody would tell me I work full-time I have a family take care of my kids but from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 no matter what happens I turn off the phone I'm not available unless there's like a an emergency don't call me L the house is on fire and 8:00 to 8:30 that's my time for Torah study so the real aspiration is not about how much Torah you can study how much of it can you master the real aspiration is how firmly can you affix these sacred pockets of time even if they're short little pockets of time yeah um how's that uh resonating yeah that resonates really well actually the um metaphorically speaking I jumped to uh uh a time when I I lived over seas where there wasn't as much of a supermarket and we got fruit in season and for one week we had pineapples and they were outrageously delicious and you look for and it was precious great and and the rest of the year you just didn't eat that as opposed to going and having like you get pineapple Frozen pineapple some at the store every week and it's not as big a deal not that you know Yesa bers don't value it but but the idea of saying oh no you know in the middle of spring it's going to be really good or 8:00 pm it's gonna be really good and you look forward to it and you sa theet of the fruit or the sweetness of the of the Gabriel you you you've given me an opportunity to tell a joke and I must take the opportunity so the joke is like this you you gave me a perfect segue okay I just want to tell a joke there were uh three spies who were caught and they were going to be executed by firing squad so it was a it was a German a Frenchman and a Jew so the chief of the firing squad says you have a last meal what's your last meal request so the German says brought worst and beer so they brought him BR worst and beer and then they executed him they asked the Frenchman what's your last meal he says um a baguette and uh wine and they brought it to him he ate it and then they killed him they asked the Jew what's your last meal he says I'll have strawberries and they said strawberries aren't in season the Jew says no I'll wait my my my grandfather told that joke oh yeah okay so you you knew it already okay all right was it I knew already but it was it was might the brace I don't exactly it's okay thank you that that does help appreciate the uh both the joke and the yeah but you know hold those times precious and dear and that's what it's all about and make set aside the time pen pen it in as it yeah pen it in and and let me just add I I I've said it but I want to say it more clearly it's not just about setting aside a certain amount of Torah study a day like for instance one thing that I do and it's very important to me to do this every single day is three chapters a day of mishna Torah because the deis de said study rambam every day according to a certain schedule and you'll finish the entire r mishna t in a in a year and it's it's hard it takes at least an hour every day sometimes take two even three hours but that's not even considered because that's a certain amount of Torah that I'm committed to learn every day it's not a time what we're talking about specifically here is a time where you're stuck with a certain time where you have to show up you're not you're not coming late and you're not leaving early that's what and that's the hardest thing when you're busy and you have a job and you have a family but that's where really the rubber meets the road is when you set a time and it could be any time you want you know if it's 1200 a.m. what it be 12:00 a.m. if it's a lunch and learn lunch and learn but you know it's about making a time I've got to go put out a a fight with my kids right now so s yeah thank you so much awesome to hear from I I thought the joke you were gonna say when you said you had a joke I thought the joke you were gonna say was that when you eat pineapples pineapples eat you because they have an an En enzyme an En an enzyme correct but that's not a joke that's what I thought you GNA say but that's not a joke I know it's just a cute little thing I know I know every time we have pineapple in our house I always say when you eat pineapple pineapple eats you and then when I say that you says and when you clean a vacuum you're a vacuum cleaner when you clean what do you say when you clean a vacuum cleaner you're a vacuum cleaner yeah yeah so you would you agree that you kids were never like hyper and crazy and destructive and chaotic um are you asking me a question question yeah that we weren't like hyper and chaotic yeah like most kids or a lot of kids sounds like we're like we were boring kids we definitely had a great time and would cackle all the time cackle oh no my trauma tell them what a YouTube live gets ads okay in middle of the live I don't know if that's something you can control or not but a live like a ad sorry popped up right after that whole conversation about pizza and it gave me a Domino's pizza ad and I I have nothing to do with Domino's piz giving me a domino so whatever we talk about is what they advertise let's see if we can manipulate the algorithm okay everybody body we're going to try to force YouTube which really means Google to toothpaste toothpaste you know you let's do tooth I really need a new brand of toothpaste toothpaste I'm using right now I use this blue gel but uh I think I think I need something like I want to try some of that like charcoal toothpaste you know charcoal toothpaste I personally use like a one like it's like I think uh like it's red and blue on a label yeah you know actually what toothpaste I actually use no joke I don't like mint toothpaste because as little kids say it's too spicy you use strawberry toothpaste I don't very good guess no bubblegum no I'm joking I don't use bubblegum toothpaste or strawberry toothpaste but I don't like mint toothpaste I use something called closeup and it's cinnamon flavored toothpaste and I love it I love it I love it I feel like that people have mixed feelings about that I personally I would enjoy cinnamon toothpaste but I could see how people would find it not so I use cinnamon flavored close-up toothpaste and they also have red close-up mouthwash which I sometimes use or sometimes I use um there's tomm of Mane I Think has cinnamon more natural like you know instead of like the big the red uh dye it's a more natural um cinnamon I think it's cinnamon Hot tamali Hot Tamales do you like hot tamali candy cinnamon flavor candy yeah I I like cinnamon as a candy flavor I like when it burns and you chew on on cinnamon stick like put a cinnamon stick in your M no because the texture I don't like the wood I hate the texture I hate the texture of the would but I love cinnamon flavor and um you know uh the pan Ferrara candy company no I'm kind of disappointed pan Ferrara candy company they make beloved products such and their hexer by the way I think is aer's Island gold from Minnesota but they make such beloved products as lemon heads um oh oh I remember lemon heads yeah lemon heads but the coolest product that they I remember when they when they when I'm like my daughter's calling and when my kids call I will answer like I've even answered you guys while I'm in the middle of like a lecture while I'm like talking to like a 100 people I'll answer and be like hi I'm talking right now I'll call you back um so I'm like it's my daughter I'm like tyo what's going on is this like timely she's like kind of yeah I'm like okay what's up she's like now tyo lives in an apartment building in Brooklyn she's like I would did my wash and I came downstairs and someone had taken my clean clothes out of the washing machine and put them on the table cuz they wanted the washing machine and I was so disgusted I rewashed my clothes um and now I came back and I want to put them in the dryer but this person now their clothes are in the dryer can I take their clothes out of the dryer and put them on a table like they took my clothes out of the washing machine and put them on the table what is proper apartment building etiquette and I told her you want to guess what I told her you tell me I told her you are completely within your right to remove those clean clothes dry clothes from the dryer put them on the table and use the dryer just be prepared that even though you're completely within your right somebody might cop an attitude with you anyhow and you got to be ready to just smile and Nod cuz you've done nothing wrong she's like I'm holding the real question is are you allow to wait yeah the real question is are you allowed to wait when there's like one minute left on the machine are you allowed to wait just to be like Petty and pull it out the second it like dings like it finishes technically yeah go up to properly take their clothes out you know in like a minute or how long that d one minute ago you couldn't wait one minute for me to pull out my own dryer my own clothes from the dryer yep is that what tyo wanted me to talk about yeah that was the question she had yeah but she already did it tyo how did it work out everything was okay did you get yelled at ask T if she got yelled at find out in ask her did she get yelled at she get out of there without without any confrontation hope she avoided any confrontation okay back to was named Isel Isel is named is because of the B was named Isel um and the B was named is because he came to the world at a time when the Jewish people were in a faint and they needed the name of every Jew is Isel and the name Isel needed to be said and whispered in order to revive the Jewish people um so that's the answer the answer is the book that talks about going into Exile and coming out of Exile is called names because the secret to surviving Gus surviving the Exile both the geopolitical Exile as well as the metaphysical Exile is to retain our connection to our core Jewish identity all types of stuff will happen around us we need to remain irck solid totally connected to who we are and if we know who we are if we know our identity then we'll come out not only unscathed but will
