Heat up here.
But it goes without saying that if there
was no education, especially here in a
country like the United States, we would
all not be here today. We would not be
observing Jews to say the least. But
hashem for all the ishivot that we have
for um for to mis for working and
overseeing every single aspect. Whenever
they are called upon, they come through.
Somebody needs a principal. Somebody
needs to set up a curriculum. I know
firsthand many different teachers that
have gone, their offices are based in
Brooklyn, by the way, right in the heart
of our community on Ocean Parkway in
Foster Avenue. People go there and they
do tremendous amount of work and they're
able to build curriculums and help
educate our children, your children, my
children
for many years to come. Of course, I
want to should have said this first. I
want to thank the host and hostess of
course to Jack and Freda Shama for
opening up their home. They did it with
a smile. They did it without even a
concern. They were just very very happy
to host and happy to have such an event
of course with the leading
in the world coming was is a tremendous
as well. I want to add that the
we're going to hear today and the entire
program and all the given today should
be Not Ben Laura, the father of Jack and
Mark and Leon as well. Of course, a man
who I knew a little bit and really
devoted his whole life to Torah means
raising children in the ways of Torah
and grandchildren in the ways of Torah.
And of course, his wife is here as well.
Good to give her point to give her a
welcome as well. And the work that he
put into his children should continue
for many years to come and many
generations to come.
>> Amen.
We're going to ask each one of the
again it's a tremendous to be able to
have these rabbis with us today. These
that really we can learn so much from
and in just a few minutes
first.
I want to give
for the Sh family for hosting this
beautiful event
and
I'm not the one to speak there
and
you did so much Every place I go, where
do you go? Whatever. Why the
hashem? And in Lakewood, we also have a
very
we're here today.
Yesterday was
I want to say something from my
grandfather. Our grandfather says that
there's a question. One of the first
things that's mentioned
the were broken on the day. What does it
have to do with bes mikd? What does that
have? What does breaking the have to do
with md we these three weeks are days
days of we don't make any we don't make
any weddings we don't make any sim
because we want to have a b mikdash
we're see that we don't have mikdash but
what does have to do with mikd
so the baron says and it's brought down
and I saw
from that if they wouldn't have been a
real sales we would have never died we
would live forever
and there wouldn't be a shy
wouldn't be able to touch they wouldn't
be able to do anything to
we know that there's no nation
says there's no nation that had as much
service as the go chased us from one
place to the other place that to we
never we were in g besides the few years
we were in
a year is called a goal. He in America
we see now also we're in goal. Who's
who's taking over New York? New York.
The most Jews are in New York. Who's
taking over New York? People that hate
Jews. Really anti-semmites. The mayor of
the mayor of New York. The mayor of New
York. The may of New York is a is
anti-semite on Eden. And who is to who's
who is now the the Democrats people won.
Who anti-semmites? They win. They they
win because they they hate Jews and
that's the we're goless America. We
think America we're we're living a good
life but we there's that terrible
goalless America that we're in and are
always in Golas they go golus in Poland
goas in Spain or
is in golus but the thing that takes
away golas is
we have a cloud so I want to just read
what I what
was a list of shashib in America before
the war they begged him please don't go
back to Europe people already is there
was a terrible and we know he's in the
second world war and didn't listen he
went back but he wrote a letter and the
letter was written to I want to say
about and he writes in the letter I have
over here a copy of the letter I don't
have the in
which they
he writes the
in the beginning of the he was he was
killed And I happened to be in Europe.
I was in uh in Lithuania. When I went
once to to Lithuania and I was there,
they reminded me this and we went to the
it's called the Ninth Fort. It's in it's
in in Coven. It's near Ka and I was
there. So somebody reminded me and the
guy that took us to all the places in
Europe, one of the places was the ninth
fort. So somebody remind me today is the
day that they killed
I don't
>> I don't
>> Yeah, I was there that day. So, so say
for and I said I can't get through this
kale. I'm not going to get through it.
Said we had a minion there and we did a
candle and we said kadesh. I said the
kadesh and somebody said molly. It was a
day of I think it was the only time they
had a minion there on the yan. They
showed me where he was killed. He was
there was shot and he says the the the
guy said he never takes anybody really
into. He took us into the the place we
saw whereas and the last thing one of
the last things he did he wrote a letter
to
and he writes in the last letter he says
that
writes he says I heard from that we
don't understand what he's saying but he
says it and I saw says it and other also
say it he says the worst tragedy we had
a lot of tragedies but the worst tragedy
is called
that we forget the we don't we're not he
says that's the worst tragedy of and and
then wrote the same thing
says
and says
in the name of
the reason we're all in call language
all the terra
and he says the ones that are building
that's he writes that they don't have
them here but the ones that built build
schools and build flourish over America
years ago or 50 you go over America was
full of Eden there's nothing left of
them they all assimilated the only ones
that are left is the m snfish of those
Eden of those Jews that built Yeshivas
and gave
to the children. Those are the ones that
are left. Everybody else vanished. And
he says the biggest you could have is
and that's what does built over the
United States over the last we say it's
an organization 100 years with
tremendous. It wasn't easy. Today it's
maybe easier but it wasn't easy in those
days to make and they built and these
children and we have today we have today
because of say that's the biggest the
bringing back to
that's what I want to say. We have a big
scholar come here.
You're doing the biggest
you're keeping up because the worst
thing is and is bringing back to that's
what I want to say.
>> Not much.
Okay.
We find in the beginning of the par
the says that
took away the wrath the anger of
Hashem's
I didn't destroy soul
therefore he came with a special priest
peace which means he live forever and
these many things the peace
the that he gets. So tell us
it's
a for the he did that he saved him. So
he deserve it.
So the question is every mitzvah can
every
so what does it mean?
We know the truth is that even though
Hashem does give us that's of we don't
deserve
you gave us a house we put up we make a
gave us a child we do
who who can say that I didn't owe that
I'm doing so therefore there's no such
thing that someone deserves
but here it says that he deserves
Why is it deserve
but says maybe one thing they can say
that it's very if a person does miss
but person that preserves
the person has a special
preserves
says I I don't I don't count him just as
he's doing
say was not
they would have lost their
would they would have became they would
became like all the if not
they preserve so that for that says that
I have to give that is deserve it's just
a private
and I think
deserves
without the chairman said without
where would anyone be? Where will we be?
Of course, you know, in 100 years day
schools all over the country and
and and today what the quality of that
we have today
behind it. They they set curriculum and
they they help teachers and they they
preserve clients.
should be the nation
is because they preserve. They have they
have their hands
and everybody that helps
is having a hand in preserving
is especially such people such people.
So we're here and hope that we should
have to this
and this bringing
he's bringing that's very ripe for
he's preserving the client
always
and I forgot to mention mention any
special thank you to signing basically
should have started the but I'm just a
continuation of so it's okay
to mention anyway
but you know besides the actual opening
the home and heart
we're doing it on a Friday afternoon
there's also
in the middle of
and it's
We heard the wonderful from the
I just want to add a personal note.
We'll leave the that we just heard a
very personal note. I came in here
before a little bit before the event
began and the Balatabay
the Balabay Balatabay
turned out to be a student of my wife
Allah Shalom in Magen David many many
years ago
and
she told me I asked her people around so
I was able to have a conversation with
the volunt. I asked her if it had a
lasting effect being in the third grade
by Mrs.
And she said that that's the first time
that she came from I think the way she
told me her parents were not in this
ashkaf of of a tora home and
that's that lit lit a ignited a spark
and lit a fire by her and that from that
came out this balabaya today
was zer together with her husband should
live and be well and their children. All
right.
From the
init
one of their children is a son of a may
and they have now a son in the shiva
that the may has here in Lakewood. Her
son their son is a tal and that she by
Mrs.
Rabi Herzko was with us and
so we need an exhibit. What means
a school mag David and Flatbush?
A girl had a light.
A fire was ignited within her of havat
Torah and it went and went continue till
she went on in life till she finally
married a person like with the similar
day and together they dedicated their
life to raise a family theor
and have children that are topofthe line
borraim
who
all because of all because of it started
with a third grade teacher.
She even mentioned that she remembers
when she was in Mrs. Brun's class
there's a little girl that used to
accompany
her sometimes to school. Turns out that
that little girl was my daughter who's
married to Rabbi to Rabbi Herzka was the
rebi of their son. This is
I don't feel worthy of adding the Torah
to those but adding a personal note
where you see an exhibit a live exhibit
what means what to doing it's not only
one school and it's not only in one
community to is doing this all over the
country we don't know how many more
Shama children sha
shama
Yeshiva are out there because of the day
school movement in America. And there
wouldn't be a day school movement if not
for the Gdole that made Torah Misor and
the Ms nephesh of the people that are
today running the nephesh keeping Torah
a vibrant organization an effective
organization and such a relevant
organization.
So it's not only
the of this event is
and it's the of what is
just want to give
me.
Amen. Amen.
It's such a great honor to have
the Shivot here
that are bringing ducha to our to our
city. They're very appropriate that
should be in this home. Jack and Freda
Shama and the entire Shama and Dwak
family that are really
always in the front doing it with full.
You walk in, you know that it's being
done with all their heart. They just
want to be there to help. They want to
be there to strengthen. And it's a very
appropriate that it should be in this
home, this this event. Just there's
nothing to add obviously to what was
said just from another perspective from
a smaller perspective you know when a
person is a kan when a person is young
sometimes it's young in years and very
often it's young in in mindset they view
things as they happen as they see them
the way they happen they go to school
kid goes to school what does he see his
teacher Yeah, she's a she's a building.
And as people grow, they just keep on
seeing more things in the world. And
some people as they grow older and grow
bigger, they start realizing that these
things that they see, someone thought
about it, someone put money into it,
someone dreamed of it, someone was
worried about you, that little boy. You
didn't even know who and who they are.
and they never spoke to you. And then
you start getting bigger and bigger and
you realize that so many things that you
benefit from every single day was
already poured the foundation by many
people that thought and dreamed that you
would be able to become that person
that's becoming part of becoming a
bigger person. And I think when we see
that bigger picture, we see an
organization like Masara that really
we don't know what they do fully because
we're not in every every meeting that
they have in every school that they go
to and every curriculum that they're
working out. But just the fact that we
have a place that they network all the
we have a convention where thousands of
people come and they're networking and
they're trying to be better. Just the
fact that you have a place as me people
to become better that became a thing
that people know that is a very
important part of our life and it's
worth it to be a rebi and it's worth it
to be a mor and it's worth it to be that
person that's giving over the
just that alone if all they did is just
give that
you're part of a much bigger world that
is working to the future of Kalis and
therefore that support and that feeling
and that networking that in itself says
the story and all the other things that
are going on in each individual
classroom in each school that we don't
have to talk about but so big things are
the big excuse me big people they see
what's behind things and we went to
schools when we were younger we didn't
know to mis we had no idea thousands of
kids going to school, they didn't know
to surah. But you know what? Now I
remember I think all the signs in school
it said to Masur I whenever I see to
Masur I remember I I know that that
emblem that logo where did I see it?
Because my whole life in school I saw it
in every picture in every
it was there. Someone thought about it.
Someone said this is important for these
kids to know
in every school or every all these
things. Someone thought about it.
someone invested in it. And we are all
of us here are definitely a recip recip
recipients of this this tremendous
kindness that was put into us and our
community keeps growing and keeps
becoming
becoming greater and greater and
realizing who is giving us who's helping
us and definitely we could thank to for
a lot of the good that we have in our
community for many years and going
forward forward.
>> Thank you.
The time is late.
Just want to share uh one more point
before we start the fundraising on this
uh Friday afternoon
that this morning and truly just happens
to be I thought of it now. Uh I was
sitting learning a little bit, reading a
little bit and an elder man, older
elderly man comes up to I'm going to say
he's 85 years old, but we would call an
old-timer. Says he was always a
religious man in his traditional way.
And he tells me, I have to tell you, you
guys are unbelievable. I go, who's you
guys? It was your generation. When we
were younger, we didn't have this. We
just did not have all of this. And he's
showing around the room. So, I don't
know what got into me. I asked him, I
said, "What do you think it's from?" He
goes, "One thing, Torah learning." He
tells me he goes if we had the rabbis
and the yeshivot that you had when I had
it in the 1940s and50s it would be it
would be to I would be totally
different. So I think it's something we
don't really see in terms of of course
today we're seeing it more but it's
something that we don't really see so
tangibly and I think to is a big part of
that just really being on top of being
on top of education and uh really hoping
that every single one of the 800 schools
flourish um and really make a difference
and an impact. Okay. Um the time is
late. Shabbat is very soon. We will uh
announce some of the pledges right now.
Anybody
stay here for
>> I'm going to I'm going to announce some
of the pleas.
>> I want to just say one thing though.
>> We're almost done guys. We're almost
done. Just continue.
The uh Torah Misura is launching a what
they call a DLI diverse learner
initiative. It helps they're going to
each school and establishing an
initiative to help all struggling kids
trying to see local places.
