Join me in learning kish for today
Wednesday paras the fourth Torah reading
chapter 8 verse one. Yesterday we
learned about the different gifts that
were given to the cohain from the peace
offerings as well as the prohibitions of
consuming any prohibited fats or blood.
Today we go back to the installation
rights and how Aaron and his sons were
being installed for being kohanim on the
first of Nissan was the first day that
they actually served. This is seven days
prior to it where Moshe will train the
kohanim how they should act and serve in
the holy temple.
Chapter 8 verse one
and God spoke to Moses saying
take Aaron together with the sons
with him and the clothingish and the
anointing oil
and the sin offering bull
and the two rams the salah mat and the
basket of the 30 unleavened bread that
we spoke about that Moshe was instructed
by God over a month six months ago about
Rashi.
As Rashi explains previously that God
told him about this
discussion of the seven days of
installation rights was already
discussed in parishk
was also said again now seven days
before the erecting of the mishkin
there's no before and after the Torah
was not written in chronological order
and though there are many things which
may have been said later still in all
this was said right before the building
of the tabernacle
Take Aaron
how you going to take him not literally
shleing him but you're going to tell him
with words and convincing him telling
him that he should be the one because
Aaron was a person had humility was
running away from such type of honors
and therefore he had to be persuaded and
convinced by Moshe that he should take
this position
these animals which were already
discussed when he told them about the
obligations s and the rights and the the
time of the sacrifices that were brought
as we mentioned in the portion of
now right before the actual time of an
event happening God reminded Moshe of
all the different obligations and
sacrifices that have to be brought in
the way it should be done verse three
and assemble the entire Jewish community
at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
This is one of the places. How is it
possible that all the Jewish people
should be at the front of the entrance
of the of the tent of meeting of the in
front of the and this was one of the
places where we see that a small area
was able to tolerate and accept a lot of
people. Verse four
and Moshe did exactly as God told him
and the Jewish people gathered at the
entrance of the tent of meeting.
Verse five, Moshe said to the Jewish
people, to the community,
this is what God commanded should be
done
over here after Moshe gathers all the
people together
and he tells them after he opens the
entrance of the tent of meeting and he
says, "You want to know why you're all
here? Because these are the things that
you're going to see that I'm going to do
before you and you should know
God told me to do this. Don't say I'm
doing it for my honor or for the honor
of my brother. I'm doing all this
and Rashi prefaces and telling us that
he will not be giving that much
commentary here by all the different
sacrifices because everything else was
already explained in the Torah reading
of pertaining of how it was done. Verse
six,
Moshe then brought Aaron and his son
close.
and he watched them and he washed them
in the water of a mikvah. Verse seven
and he placed them on him and Aaron the
tunic upon him. This was already after
they put on the the pants because Aaron
already dressed himself with the pants
and he girdle and he gave him to put on
and he put on the sash around him
and he clothed him with the robe
and he placed upon him the
tied the sash of the aphod
and he adorned him with it.
Verse eight.
And he placed on him the breastplate.
And he placed into the breastplate theim
a parchment a uh that had on it the in
between where we know the breastplate
would fold. In between those fold, he
placed that parchment with God's name on
it.
Verse n.
And then he placed the turban on his
head
and then on top placed on the turban the
golden forehead plate
towards facing meaning that it was below
in the front of the turban the forehead
plate
the godly the holy crown
like God commanded Moshe.
verse nine.
There were these turquoise threads that
were on the side of the forehead plate
which they were then placed on top of
the turban like we explained in. So you
have now the tits the forehead plate was
hanging and was dependent on the turban.
Verse 10ish
then took the anointing oil and he
anointed the tabernac and everything
that's in it
and he made them holy.
Verse 11
and he sprinkled from it on the altar
seven times and he anointed the altar of
and all its vessels that came along with
it. Vakir vasc and the l and its washing
basin.
to sanctify them.
We don't see anywhere previously that
Moshe was commanded to do these uh
sprinkling of the blood. Still in all we
do find that he was told to anoint the
oil. However, why he did this and why he
did and Rashi says I don't know where he
was commanded about the sprinkling of
the blood. Verse 12.
Verse 12.
And he and he poured from some of the
anointing oil.
Just in the previous Rashi, some
commentaries explained that one of the
reasons why he did sprinkle the blood
because he compared it to the other
things as well. that the same way the
other vessels and the other ideas that
we do find that were sprinkling blood by
other ideas. So therefore Moshe assumed
that the same would be by when it comes
to the vessels. A separate discussion on
its own of why Moshe did that. Verse
number 11 and verse number 12ish
and he poured from the anointing on the
head of Aaron and he anointed him to
sanctify him. Rashi, why does it say
that he poured and then he anointed?
What is the difference?
First he poured it on his head.
Then he then he took some more oil and
put it between his eyebrows.
And then he took with his finger and
connected all the oil that he placed on
him.
Verse 13.
And Moshe then brought close the brought
forward the children of Aaron. And he
placed on them their tunics
and they were already dressed in their
trousers
and he put on their sashes
and they put on them their headdresses
which were their hats.
Moshe like God commanded Moshe. This
concludes the fourth Torah reading for
paras.
