They even forced a massive tax hike on local families to cover a supposed $20 million deficit. Now it turns out that was completely wrong. Auditors recently discovered well a long time ago actually discovered that the district actually has a massive budget surplus. At first, they thought it was $30 million, but new reports show the district is sitting on as much as $100 million in unspent money. State Senator Bill Weber is demanding answers from the state and the local financial monitors. School officials say the extra cash built up over the last 3 years because of accounting mistakes and unspent government aid. They say the district was budgeting for jobs that were never actually filed, sorry, filled. So, excuse me. Now, furious taxpayers in Ramapo want to know why they were forced to pay higher property taxes when the district already had $100 million in the bank. Many are signing petitions demanding a full refund. Reports say now the town of Ramapo is preparing to take out a new bond for over $30 million. Inside reports are saying this. This is not confirmed yet. Other reports say this massive borrowing plan is completely separate from the recent federal grant secured by Congressman Mike Lola. Taxpayers are demanding a full investigation into the town budget. They want to know why the town needs another $30 million when residents are already paying some of the highest property taxes in the state. Well, isn't to say that Rockland uh is a very highmaintenance town. It is. And they're very good about it. They take they're taking care of the snow plowing and the garbage um you know twice a week. They're very good about it. I can tell you myself because I know. But this is a report coming out living in Rockland County. Well, it's a fact is costing families a fortune. Reports show Rockland now has some of the highest property taxes in the entire country, and locals say the town of Ramapo is squeezing them with massive budgets. To make things worse, basic utilities are becoming completely unaffordable. Orange and Rockland utilities char utility charges some uh sorry, some of the highest electricity rates in the state. State officials recently approved a new three-year rate hike for the company. That means gas and electric bills will keep going up even while the utility company reports massive profits.
