there's a new customer
clro it's a custom that I never learned
when I was in yiva but everybody seems
to be following that custom and that is
you must go to hotel for shabas
Kaneka somebody I was speaking about it
somewhere and somebody after the lecture
I gave said I I need to get home very
quickly I said what's the rush he says
well I I need to go make reservations
based on what you said so I told him you
know if you don't follow that custom
you'll still be a good
Jew and it's and I'm not trying to speak
about the hotels but there is a very
difficult issue that comes up when you
go to hotel for shabas Kaneka and that
is obviously in shabas khah you have to
light the manira and where are you going
to like the manira when you're in a
hotel and there's really two parts to
this question the first part of the
question is Friday evening CU you sleep
in your room and you eat in the dining
room so in general this question is
discussed by
many everybody discusses if somebody's
in a dormatory in a Yeshiva and they
have their bedroom and they have the
dining room where's a bed better to
light the Mana and it's almost the
opinion of all that it's better to light
in your bedroom but that's not an option
in most hotels they don't want people
leaving lit manur in the hotel because
of safety issues and of course safety
issues always come first so it would
probably be quite acceptable to light
the manura in the dining room where
you're going to be eating the shabas
sudo but many hotels don't want those
minoras to be in the dining room either
there many people in the dining room
there children running around in the
dining room people walking back and
forth waiters serving and they take a
different place in the hotel that they
designate as the place for lighting the
Mana makes it extremely complicated
because that really isn't one of the two
options that is spoken about when we
speak about lighting the
manira however if there's no other
option there is room to be lenient for
lining the manira in a place where
everybody's lighting the manira
everybody sees the candles the main
purpose of the candles is Puma to
publicize the miracle and if that's the
only option available I guess that's
what you have to do but then there's
another issue and that is M shab
Saturday night so if you're in the hotel
and you're remaining there Saturday
night you you're going to be there after
shabas you're going to light the manora
but you're staying there the entire M
shabas you're only leaving Sunday then
there's no question this is where you
are M shabas this is where you're
staying and this is where you're going
to light the manura but if for whatever
reason you're leaving and you're going
home or you're going elsewhere and you
light you're lighting the manura in the
hotel where you wear shabas but then
you're going home and you're going to be
sleeping at home or you're going
elsewhere where you're going to be
sleeping what I have to recommend is
that you should light the manur in the
hotel but when you get home or get to
wherever else you're going light the man
again don't make a broa but light the
Mana again because you maybe really are
responsible to light the manora where
you stay where you're sleeping not where
you just there for shabas especially
since that's not your permanent
